I hope Adam is not reading the fan angst and disappointment in BTIKM on twitter. That thought makes me sad for him. Why can't people think twice before they post such angst - guess they want him to read it and feel bad. :-/

I have a simple test for determining the "hook": I have young children. If they're not currently starring in a Disney or Nickolodean show and not named Bieber, my children know nothing about artists or care anything about their songs. But I usually have top 40 radio on in the background or in the car. The "hook" of the song is the one or two phrases that my children will pick up and sing ad nauseum. And I think it has more to do with the melody than the words. For example, I have one child that drove me nuts singing "We could of had it alllllllllll, rolling with the sheeeeeeep (pause) We could of had it alllll lllllll, rolling with the sheeeeep" and on and on. I had another that heard "Pokerface" once on Dance Central and then sang for months "Cherry pie, cherry pie, no you can't eat my cherry pie" over and over.

To bring this back to Adam, my kids did sing the phrase "whataya want from me" over and over. I agree that "if I wanted to go I would have gone by now" is the hook. However, I have to admit that, as many times as I have played that song or video (because I'm one of the people who truly love it), I have never heard my kids singing it. I think it has a good hook, but maybe it might be a little more complicated and take a few more listens than the ones that immediately get ingrained into your brain.

A ton of Cumulus HAC stations just added this single in the last few weeks and started spinning during the day immediately, lots of Cumulus people including a VP of some sort just squeezed into that Atlanta station to hear Adam sing (which the station acknowledged was unusual), and fangirled and fanboyed like whoa. That makes me happy.

Rihannsu, both Chunkey and I posted what we think the hook in BTIKM is.

When did the radio station post this? I think I've missed it.

Well, I have said many, many times that I love BTIKM. But I don't think it has the strongest hook. And you know what, a lot of my favorite songs aren't exactly "hooky."

I am frustrated because BTIKM hasn't been added by Z100. And I am frustrated because I have yet to hear this song on the radio. I am confused because I think RCA could be doing more to get the song played (and I'm not talking about Adam's amazing radio tour, I'm talking about doing what it takes behind the scenes).

I'm still supporting the song. I am still rooting for it. It is moving in the right direction, but it could take all Spring at this rate. I didn't expect Adam to rush up the charts, but I did expect better radio support from CHR. And I did expect better results from Canada and New Zealand.

But I'm pretty sure it was the long interview from the Bert show (not the youtube clips, on their pages they posted two long audio only recordings) where they remarked on all the station people crowded in the room. I don't remember the exact words.

Just because some of us are expressing reasons why we think BTIKM might not be making it on CHR at this time, doesn't mean we dislike the song.

For my part of the statement above, I said there was ONE PART, ONE PART of the song that is hard to sing along to because it is so high. I also said that being able to sing along to a song is usually important for producing a hit song, especially on Top 40 radio. I did not say that this was a component of a good song or a song that I personally enjoy!

ITA with all of this. I love BTIKM, love the video, love Adam's voice on it- whether it is acoustic or plugged in. I thought it would be one of those mid-tempo songs like WWFM that was needed in the top 20 of most CHR play lists. If BTIKM is going to get there, it is taking a much longer time than WWFM did and that took 6 months to peak.

I'm like you. My favorite songs from my favorite artists are almost never what is picked to be a radio single. WWFM was never my favorite off of FYE, but it was a great Pop song with a hook that was undeniable. It was a simple song with meaningful lyrics and radio stations kept it on the top of their recurrent lists forever! Look how fast IIHY fell out of the play lists of radio songs.

A well-constructed pop song is hard to come by. Some songs hang around on radio forever because people never get tired of hearing them. I believe WWFM is going to be in this category for a very long time.

BTIKM seems to be doing very well in other countries. Adam is an International star.. so what appeals to us in the U.S. may not appeal to others and visa versa . I love the song and IMHO, the video is a potential classic.. music is very subjective.

I do believe that we expect an A plus on all that Adam sings. BTW,He's one of the very few singers,who actually cares about each song on his album.. Many others have one or two good songs and the rest are fillers.
