Still a few pages to catch up but if I don't post this now it gets old.
I am not in the target audience group and I always love slow songs the most but have also liked to listen to real rock. I know nothing of pop radio so I hope the label makes the right decision for their target group - I will second Adam's single whatever it is. I like BTIKM and especially OOL and I am sure that the new album's uptempo tracks will make their way to my slow-favouring brain eventually. That being said here is my first impression.
In general I was hearing 80's disco with these two new songs and I have my doubts how people might react to that - perhaps it is new to the younger audience and they don't resent the old vibe and concentrate on the touch of modern sound. I was a bit surprised how prominent the old vibe is but it is fine with me and I liked the songs. Perhaps the tweaking to today is to be heard better in proper audio.
Cuckoo did nothing to me, no hook, not catchy. I did not feel the urge to dance nor to sing along. I can see that Adam is having fun and I can detect a little bit of funkiness and maybe it is good for clubs, IDK.
Trespassing is still catchy and fun and would be my choice for single. It would show another side of Adam. I appreciate the attitude, the strong beat and the message.
Chokehold is the best for me personally. Intriguing melody line introducing something a bit different so it is easily recognizable. Good groove for some substance and some repetition for singing along. I love it.
Is it Mapril yet ???

Q3, was it you that said earlier that Chokehold may be your all time favorite? I AGREE! Love this song. Please let it be the next single! I hope my bff down in Cullman will find the best audio of this and get her DS to make me a CD of this like she usually does.

...going to the shallow end... did you notice that those textured thingies on the shirt sparkle? So - we still have sort of sparklie Adam - makes me happy ;D

@1:40 he is looking to his left and points to his ear. Is that just part of his performance or is he communication with the sound technician? I cannot see ear monitors. Can you? He had none during his BTIKM perfomances on TV and the accustic performances, but than I think Cassie has said, that he probably didn't need them, because he did not move much and had speakers right in front of him. But that the first thing does not apply here, right? ???

Why do I feel that Adam wants us to hear the new songs so that we can kind of demand them from RCA.. Am I dreaming, over the top or just CUCKOO? LOL! Was thinking the same thing. He knew that they were going to be on You Tube within hours, he knew what he was doing I'm happy to help him, I don't need to get paid to do it!

OMG - Add me to the list of major 'Chokehold' fans. Its quality comes through, even against all the sound problems and the still missing lyrics. This song just is all kinds of wonderful! Great melody, great vocal opportunities for Adam to shine, and the song also seems a bit more complex, as in, once we hear the end product, it will be fun to analyze it a bit deeper. Besides just taking it in again and again, of course. Its just such a great song. Love it.
Love cuckoo too. In my mind I can just see somebody taking scenes from 'One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest' and editing it as a fan video...can you imagine? Hope somebody does that, but perhaps rather with the studio version than with this one.
And clearly we have not yet got a good feel for the instrumentation, because I could not make out any special base line or guitar playing or metal sound that people who heard the studio version have been talking about. Also probably needs to come together better than it did here (as best I can tell)
Definitely single material, but obviously we knew that already from everyone else who had heard it.
Both other recordings that I have seen (Trespassing and Fever) just show me what a mess that sound was there. The one thing that I don't understand is why everything is so distorted, but Adam's voice is sharp and clear? If the problems were with the venue, then wouldn't it effect his vocals too? Both his singing and the instruments are fed directly into microphones, so why is there such a difference? Anyhoo, I don't know a thing about recording technology, but just sad that it is so distorted.
Looking forward to NNN and idol now, because I would hope that both are performances of his new single, placed right that moment when BTIKM has crossed over the top 20 finish line.
As to why BTIKM was released as first single? My personal theory actually is that Adam may have more to do with that than we think. I know that it is the label making the decision and its their call. But they are obviously going to discuss it with him. Adam had a clear video vision with BTIKM and wanted set up the album content wise. Chokehold would not have done that. It neither is a representation of the whole album nor is it easily put into a video storyline, especially, if you do not want to show a partner to play off of. So I think Adam may have pushed for BTIKM and RCA just did not disagree with that and made the decision to go along with that.
Now I realize that a first single should be chosen for radio success and marketability and not because you have a good video idea. But they may have assumed BTIKM would do a bit better than it did early on because it was so mainstream and uncontroversial. It is only catching on now and that is two and a half months later. And I think they may be underestimating the intriguing power of Chokehold too.
So want the album NOW......
