Tigerlilly - don't disagree at all, although if BTIKM drops quickly because the new song is a fast riser that will be a high class problem for sure! But maintaining or even growing BTIKM on HAC in the meantime, and even if only briefly during any overlap seems the best option to me. And i thought we had established in the last era that voting is only one element of VHI placement and maybe only a small element at that? I thought we had found out that it is label support/payola that counts the most. I think it's understandable that RCA is not choosing to spend more money on BTIKM, hence the drop. They are going to push single 2 and need the dollars for that. I don't think there was ever any thought of doing that for Cook and they put all they had into single 1, including maintaining it for a week at no. 1 on VHI. Second video never appeared on the countdown and the single had no promotion at all. So, BTIKM dropping to me makes sense. ITA I too think RCA will be pushing single #2. After so many weeks, I totally believe myspenser's theory (I think it was her) that BTIKM was released to counteract the bastard single. And that was the only finished song of a single quality they had ready to go with in December. I did say I thought the Dec release was to combat the bastard single and album confusion that some radio stations seemed to have. However, I think the BTIKM choice was deliberate by RCA. They wanted that single. I think it may be a part of the Dr Luke/RCA deal. I am 99% sure that either Cuckoo or Trespassing were finished enough to just need a final mix to release them. Remember, the UK heard all 3 of those tracks back in November, right? I think they purposely wanted to go with something more conservative.

Hoping for 2 recurrents on HAC this week. Saga says the Katy and DeGraw could go this week. So, yes, maybe #18. And, his spins are still going up, just not very rapidly.

It's the benchmark for when an HAC song becomes a hit vs a flop!

Idol bubble joke related to a claim by a NAL stan. But what is the joke. I am an idol bubble fan and don't recall the #17 significance?

Yes. I have to run some errands and I will do that when I get back. OK, he says instead of a record label exec, he considers himself someone who "moves pop culture around." He actually thinks today's music is not as good as when he started. He loves Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and some of the older rockers. Worked a lot with U2. He thinks Rock is pretty much dead right now. Thinks Arcade Fire has the best chance right now. He thinks Hip Hop is the most innovative music right now. Admitted that Idol is a way for him to get Interscope acts on the show! Says the industry is "as dead as a duck." Thinks digital subscriptions is the way to go. Says there are 8 millions songs out there. "Good luck!" Thinks that 90% of albums should never have been made. They are hard to sell and singles are the way to go. He admitted a trick for getting PDs to listen to music they are reluctant about. He buys a 1 minute ad on the big stations, using a clip from a certain song. Buys the time during evening drive home time so PDs are on their way home listening to their station! Jimmy smart!! <<< Doesn't use that technique often though. Those are the highlights of what he said about current music. A lot of the story is about Petty, Springsteen, and U2. Thank you for the summary! Rock IS pretty much dead, especially on radio. Rock acts still pull in major crowds at concerts, though. Interesting artists that Jimmy brought up. Two out of three of them, I can hardly tolerate, although I respect them all. No wonder Jimmy is pushing for P2 on Idol for the win! He matches up with a couple of his favorite all time artists. Good luck selling that WGWG to radio! Radio wouldn't touch that kid with a ten foot pole. There is nothing about P2 that says "current". He is pretty much right about singles and albums. If you can sell 15-20 million singles worldwide, album sales aren't as important. I guess the best case is to do that AND have good album sales, like Adele, Bruno, Gaga, etc. It is looking like Bieber, who is one of Jimmy's signed artists, might be able to cross over to that category with this new era. I will be impressed if he is able to make the transition from teeny dreamboy to viable artist. It's interesting to watch what will happen with this kid.

I'm not too sure on the details, but I think that was the peak that NAL second single, The Truth, have gotten too, to #17. Even though it didn't sell much of anything, his fans said it was a hit since it got to #17 on HAC.
