Kinda what I was thinking. And supposedly this is the song radio picked. But, there is no need to panic until we at least get an adds date. Just looked around All Access and Pulse and couldn't find one.
I can't complain cause my HAC station in Dallas has been promoting the HELL out of NCOE. It's frequently in their tweets. Top 40 stations here, not a word. I keep thinking that radio WANTS Adam to be an HAC artist and that it has a lot to do with what they feel is Adam's demographic, older females. That is a stigma when it comes to Top 40 radio.

I am really curious here hence why I am asking this; how do you then explain Chris Rene from Xfactor currently charting on POP if you say Radio is trying to box Adam into HAC or do you probably mean the Xfactor demo is different from AI and if yes, do you have stastitics to back up this?
And my other question is how is Adam perceived to generally have more other fans when we have seen some of his radio visits pictures and the pictures have most times shown a diverse fanbase? Thanks anyone, but especially to Sage whose thot I am trying to understand.
Adam does have a diverse fanbase, more diverse than most in pop musc BUT, it's undeniable that in the US, a lot of his fans are older females. Adam mentioned it himself in European interviews, how it was nice to see all the younger fans in Europe. He mentioned his fans tended to be older in America. He mentioned in the Nashville M & G Q & A, when he was asked about radioplay about politics and "station demographics." As far as Chris Rene, he is a young urban music, hip hop rap artist. That target demo is young and definitely CHR. Has nothing to do with where he came from. He's also working radio heavily. I follow him on Twitter. He started his radio promo tour before Adam and is STILL on his radio tour. Also doesn't hurt he has the backstory of a recovering drug addict who got clean just weeks before his audition and just celebrated one year sobriety and the song is an anthem against drug use.
I don't mean to get into all this in the numbers thread but I wanted to respond to the question asked. And I say this as an older fan (40's). I think a lot of radio people like Adam and want him to do well but...Adam is not perceived to have a large young fanbase which is needed for CHR. Even radio's pick of NCOE over songs that could have appealed to younger listeners like Cuckoo makes me think they feel he is more suitable for HAC and that's where they want to stick him. I do think Adam has more younger fans than radio gives him credit for but I also think the 40's and up fans, who sometimes are the most vocal and visible, sometimes cloud that.

Hmmm. Interesting. I never thought of it from that angle. :-/

Lol I never thought of it from that angle because many of the under 25 Adam fans I know who are regular Top 40 radio listeners prefer NCOE or Naked Love to Cuckoo. And radio PD's (top 40 and HAC) who know their audience prefer NCOE.
NCOE has been winning a vote to play on Montreal Top 40 for the past few nights in a contest most of fandom isn't aware of, those that are say the station is getting most of the aired calls and facebook posts from young people.

Thanks for the reply, but I totally disagree with you and here goes why:
1. Chris Rene is in same age group as Adam. Google should help to ascertain this and he comes from the same reality background with similar demo as Adam. M j s posts those stats every time should anyone be curious. I just don't know how A alone should be singled out as having an older fanbase based on this.
2. Adam saying he has an older fan base in the US might not necessarily mean what you said since he did not expantiate on that point. It could mean they are mostly young fans outside the US unlike how diverse his fan base is in the States that has all age categories. I don't know how reliable Yahoo stastitical stuff is, becos among the Idols, he actually has the youngest fan base as it has been proved on his diff fan sites N those radio meets n greets. I wld post the Yahoo stuff d moment I post frm my laptop n not my phone.
3. There is nothing unique about Rene back story. In fact that back- story is as common in the entertainment industry as you can get them i.e. Bruno Mars drug issue. If it was based on backstories, Adam being the first gay out artist is more unique, except you are sure the PDs have a softer spot for those with drug issues.
I wld rather think maybe they indeed did not like the first single or it cld be based on other internal radio politics not known to us or it cld be the label marketing strategy that is not well laid out. b
I see new artists with no previous hits, popularity or name recognition charting on POP every time. Or you mean the PDs knew before hand their fanbases are younger? How wld they have know this with either a name recognition or popularity? How many pple knew Jessie J before she broke in the States? Don't they all use radio to build up their fan bases after being played on the radio?

Again, Chris Rene is an urban, hip hop artist. That music is hot and it's hot with CHR target demo. His label is also pushing him hard and has him out beating down the doors of radio stations, small, large and everything in between. I do think radio people took note of who showed up to the M & G's they had with Adam. There is no denying that Adam has a lot of older females in his fanbase, more so than a Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj. Bruno Mars got in with radio also colloborating on hip hop artists' singles and breaking into that young demo. I just know what I also witnessed at the M & G I went to. The older fans were pushing the younger fans out of the way to get to Adam. CHR radio doesn't think those older fans listen to their stations. I also think it doesn't help that the more fanatical fans of Adam, the most vocal skew older and that overshadows the younger fans that Adam has.
sage, there is a lot of truth to what you posted. And I am saying this as someone in her mid-thirties. I have personally heard a DJ, who is a friend, address this "AI fan demographic" issue; it was in a casual conversation in which he was asked about Chicago's support (or lack thereof) for Lee Dewyze. This is NOT an Adam phenomenon. Daughtry has older fans, Cook, Allen; every male off Idol has this "demo problem" PDs and DJs are well aware of the fanbase that reality shows bring in.
I do think Adam is breaking through. And I do think his younger audience is growing. And these CHR concerts are super valuable at reaching the "radio desireable demo" I am a little nervous about the reception Adam will get at Fantabuloso in Chicago---it is going to be a mostly young, radio audience who will not be real familiar with him. But this opportunity is HUGE.
One other note, I do think that Adam does have more young fans than he is given credit for. He is going to have to work to break this perception.

I agree with you Sage. It does seem to be the older ladies who follow him around to all the radio promos and attend all his concerts. Didn't Cook have the same problem? My daughter and I went to the New Orleans GNT and she was rolling her eyes at all the old women lined up at the stage and it is true that the majority of the audience was middle aged women or older. There was some young ones but not enough. I think this is one of the major reasons why he is having trouble with CHR. The songs on Trespassing fit the younger audience well so hopefully this will draw more young people to buy.
