I don't get, why it should be important how his fanbase is now. The important thing is, what kind of music an artist does. Adam does (dance-)pop, so with the right single CHR should play him and that would attract more young fans. BTIKM just did not fit.
gbam has mentioned new artists and that is good point. Because very new artists have no fanbase at all or a very little one and still new artists are played on radio, because the song fits or for whatever reason else, but not based on the fanbase.
And I think, that the reason, why at the moment there are more HAC stations playing him, is, because BTIKM was an moderate HAC hit.

1. Chris Rene is in same age group as Adam. Google should help to ascertain this and he comes from the same reality background with similar demo as Adam. M j s posts those stats every time should anyone be curious. I just don't know how A alone should be singled out as having an older fanbase based on this. X Factor does have a younger following and one that is more ethnically diverse than AI does. So does The Voice. There are statistics that show this to be true. The fact that X Factor is new to the scene and didn't have a tour, helped the contestants to be seen more as new artists. This also helped lessen the overabundance of fanatical older fans, like the ones that attach to their chosen guy each year after the AI season is over. Plus, Chris Rene is doing the type of music that is relevant to today's current CHR/Hip Hop/Rhythmic charts. This is an area that AI doesn't really cater to.

I unfortunately do not agree with just like I do not share in most of your views. The stastitics of these shows posted all the time on m js neither support this viewpoint also. Adam is also doing Chr music. All the people, magazines like Rolling Stone that previewed the album claim so and some of the snippets frm the album that fans have heard prove this too. He is frm AI and it comes with them all. All d graduates of the show has older fans based on that and only dumb PDs wld say that is a disadvantage. I think having an already built fan base no matter the demo is an advantage to me personally anyway. All the other artists some of you guys name checked like Riri n co built fan bases via radio except for Bieber and that is what radio exposure does. See casual fans make n break artists and everyone in the biz knows this and not a few thousands of inbuilt fan however old they are. Saying radio wldn't play an artist whose music fits because of a few fanatic older fans seem weird to me. That reminds me also of Gaga's story and her initial struggle to be played on the radio. She said she owns her career to the gays as they were the ones who helped her crack radio becos they got hooked on her songs and her sales soared. Her first gig was also with them for example etc. she did not catch up with radio becos of a young fan demo, her later radio exposure of strings of no. 1 hits did this for her. What I am saying it that is what radio does, hence everyone needs it to reach that demo. I still think it is weird n definitely not true that radio wld not play an artist based on their supposedly fan bases. Radio exposes new artists with no known fan bases everyday, and some other artists have to prove they have a fan base and prove that fan base to be of a right demo before radio agrees to play them??? WEIRD! Honestly speaking this does not seem logical to me at all. Mind you, all I ve written is my opinion of course. One last thing, I also feel comparing Lee, Cook and co to Adam and their radio play is also weird since Adam does not do their kind of music i.e. totally diff artists. Radio at least Hac did jump on their singles. Who knows maybe these songs failing to connect using iTunes as a guage was a discouragement, not even a prescence on the overall 1000 songs and showing also not a préscence with tv appearances might have been a turn off frm further play. This was what I personally saw was the problem with their songs. DC's only iTunes appearance apart from when his single initially went on sale was with his AI gig and the combined sale of that week was about 20,000 or so. Yet AI was the King of ratings w no Xfactor or TheVoice competition then. Even the no. 1 Hac station was among the first to add DC, so the support was initially there. Something must have made them to not continue with, one of which is my personal theory which also might just be a fallacy.

Thanks for the reply, but I totally disagree with you and here goes why: 1. Chris Rene is in same age group as Adam. Google should help to ascertain this and he comes from the same reality background with similar demo as Adam. M j s posts those stats every time should anyone be curious. I just don't know how A alone should be singled out as having an older fanbase based on this. 2. Adam saying he has an older fan base in the US might not necessarily mean what you said since he did not expantiate on that point. It could mean they are mostly young fans outside the US unlike how diverse his fan base is in the States that has all age categories. I don't know how reliable Yahoo stastitical stuff is, becos among the Idols, he actually has the youngest fan base as it has been proved on his diff fan sites N those radio meets n greets. I wld post the Yahoo stuff d moment I post frm my laptop n not my phone. 3. There is nothing unique about Rene back story. In fact that back- story is as common in the entertainment industry as you get I.e. Bruno Mars drug issue. If it was based on backstory, Adam being the first gay out artist is more unique, except you are sure the PDs have a softer spot for those with drug issue. I wld rather think maybe they indeed did not like the first single or it cld be based on other internal radio politics known to us or it cld be the label marketing strategy that is not well laid out. b I see new artists with no previous hits, popularity or name recognition charting on POP every time. Or you mean the PDs knew before hand their fanbases are younger? How wld they have know this with either a name recognition or popularity? How many pple knew Jessie J before she broke in the States? Don't they all use radio to build up their fan bases after being played on the radio? Again, Chris Rene is an urban, hip hop artist. That music is hot and it's hot with CHR target demo. His label is also pushing him hard and has him out beating down the doors of radio stations, small, large and everything in between. I do think radio people took note of who showed up to the M & G's they had with Adam. There is no denying that Adam has a lot of older females in his fanbase, more so than a Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj. Bruno Mars got in with radio also colloborating on hip hop artists' singles and breaking into that young demo. I just know what I also witnessed at the M & G I went to. The older fans were pushing the younger fans out of the way to get to Adam. CHR radio doesn't think those older fans listen to their stations. I also think it doesn't help that the more fanatical fans of Adam, the most vocal skew older and that overshadows the younger fans that Adam has. Well these arguments are Way more interesting to mé than your earlier claim of saying a nearing 30 year old married man with child is considerably younger than Adam etc. In any case dance n pop songs are as hot on Chr as hip hop. The only thing I agree with is the promotion and radio strategy could have been the difference since I believe also that they share similar audiences and there is no proof that René is more popular than Adam nor has exclusively younger fans. Lastly Riri and co built their young fan bases with continued radio exposure. Hardly does any artist come with inbuilt fanbases w the exception of Bieber of course. The fact is they GET it with radio play.

I agree with you Sage. It does seem to be the older ladies who follow him around to all the radio promos and attend all his concerts. Didn't Cook have the same problem? My daughter and I went to the New Orleans GNT and she was rolling her eyes at all the old women lined up at the stage and it is true that the majority of the audience was middle aged women or older. There was some young ones but not enough. I think this is one of the major reasons why he is having trouble with CHR. The songs on Trespassing fit the younger audience well so hopefully this will draw more young people to buy. Maybe that's one reason why female idol contestants/winners have an easier transition to radio.

I agree, sagajo. And it is also why females on AI have had such a hard time in recent years. (a hard time on the show itself, I mean)

Best I can get on iTunes numbers is Pop #148 showing through the iTunes store itself as the feeds are screwed and I can't get top 1000. This is not a bump because it was at #142 at 7pm last night.
Have to go to work so if anyone else can get numbers that would be great.

Maybe that's one reason why female idol contestants/winners have an easier transition to radio. If that were so, then All those females contestants including Jordin Sparks Shd be smashing right and left on the radio instead of d two presently doing so. They shd still smash however the position they left AI with. After all the 1 Direction guys smashing now were 3rd in their XFactor season and Rene currently charting did not win his season either. So if being a girl was all it took, they shd be smashing esp Jordin who also fits the Disney demo. We shdn't even talk about Disney Achuleta since the girls based on this theory works best on the radio. Well I choose to be a lone ranger in my thoughts since I don't personally believe this. And by way I read mjs sometimes and I ve read they all of them (Carrie they said spoke about how her concert audience is different from everyone else in Country music because she is from AI) and that has not stopped radio playing. No it is not unique to just the AI guys. Another person went to one of Kelly's concert on my twitter feed and posted about how Adam audience is more diversified in race and ages than hers. I wld try to dig out that particular Carrie's statement on m js. Just give me time to waddle my way thru the posts.
