Where Adam gets hit the hardest in ways none of these peeps do is that many seem to feel his "image" hurts the gay community somehow. It started even before any of the controversy with Adam struggling to find the balance between being visible and being just a singer, before the fuss over his "coming out" with Perez, or his comments in Rolling Stone, or the fuckery with Out Magazine. During Idol I lost count of the number of times he was referred to as that screaming queen, Liza Minelli, Glamberace, and a thousand other put downs from his own community. And you see it now in how some gay media sites spin their often grudging coverage of him, and how their regulars comment on him. I certainly don't think all gay dudes should be required to like Adam's music. But I am often mystified by the visceral dislike that they have for him that goes beyond his music. I had no idea that there were so many moments when gay media sites criticised and attacked him that way. (I didnt watch AI8 during its run and wasnt in the US). I'm hesitant to comment on this since I'm neither part of the gay community nor am I Adam, so I can't really say what his personal experience has been. But I do know that when I first started following Adam during AI and immediately afterward, I checked out every possible mention of him. I remember clearly the vitriol in the comments on several gay sites which completely floored me at the time. Many called him out as a deviant and a degenerate and that he was a poor representative of the gay community. I also saw the "screaming queen" reference you mention numerous times. I'm not even going to speculate on why the gay community in the US has been slow to embrace Adam, but to distill it down to people just not liking his music is pretty dismissive IMO. I think it's a lot more complex than that.

kqvt.com/adam-lambert-cover-instinct-gay-fanbase/Adam Lambert Covers Instinct, Ponders Gay Fanbas Adam Lambert covers Instinct, looking as faboo as ever. He really does have a great head o’ hair and whoever taught him how to line his eyes in sooty black kohl had mad skills. While we know Glambert is stylish and is a rarity, being openly gay while signed to a major label, he is not with a massive gay fanbase. That’s what Instinct sought to discuss with the singer. Why hasn’t the LGBT community embraced Lambert and his music more fully? Can he forgive them their ‘Trespassing,’ pun intended? Well, the ‘Better Than I Know Myself’ crooner has a theory about his lack of sizable gay following. “As a community, we’re a little bit resistant to a gay male pop star ourselves,” Lambert said. “It’s very easy for people to look at my origin, which is ‘American Idol,’ and automatically assume that I’m a commercial sellout or a puppet or a flash in the pan. I don’t think I’m any of those things.” He continued, offering a gender-specific theory, saying, “There’s something weird there. We’re very eager to celebrate a strong female. But to celebrate a fellow gay man — it gets catty sometimes.” He does have a point… more

WAL - this article is a great find! It seems to really articulate the issues Adam faces in trying to be a #1 POP artist, he's just too good for POP! Love it, thanks for posting, and everyone, this is a MUST READ article! It starts out great then totally runs off the rails. You are right, koshka, once again, these people start spinning these completely fictitious yarns about what Adam SHOULD do, which is totally their own fantasy agenda (and has nothing to do with music-biz reality). It's driving me batty. I used to have a family friend, who was kind of a buffoon and he LOVED to give unsolicited advice about everything. He'd start off every sentence with, "Y'know, what they oughtta do..." then proceed to go on a diatribe about politics, city government, the latest sitcom, you name it. Before long it became a catchphrase among anyone who knew him. Now my sister and I will still, when railing against something that's bugging us, we'll say, "Y'know, what they oughtta do..." and we'll start laughing because we realize we're giving unsolicited advice (even though in our case, not directly to anyone). Why does EVERY blogger feel the need and right to tell Adam what he SHOULD be doing? No, that's what YOU want him to do and it's time to let go ... (And Time for Miracles??? Are they kidding??)

unapologeticallypop.blogspot.ca/2012/04/lets-talk-about-glambert.htmlWednesday, April 25, 2012 Let's Talk About GlambertIt's time for me to say a few words about Adam Lambert as the release date for his second studio album draws nearer. It's clear to everyone, fans and non-fans, that Adam Lambert is not only a superhuman singer, but a genuinely good man. Adam has always supported philanthropic causes near and dear to his heart, whether it be involvement in LGBTQ activism or raising money for clean drinking water. Outspoken, high-spirited, courageous & daring, Adam Lambert stands far apart from other POP acts who lack temerity & personality. Guided by his gift & a true moral compass, Adam delivers passionate & provocative performances other singers could only dream of. Yet, Adam is consistently under-appreciated. Why? more.. Yeah, to me this is annoying. It's easy to judge from the sidelines what Adam should or should not do with his career. But then she gives the positive example of Time for Miracles??? That's the least current song Adam has sung. Whether you like it or not, this is NOT today's pop music. The writer also judges Trespassing mostly on its singles (which, I agree, are subpar). But did she listen to the rest of it? Cause even we haven't, we only have snippets. Listen to the whole album before you judge it. I really think Adam has delivered a really strong pop album here, AND one that fits his voice, persona, and sensibilities. *sigh* I am realizing more and more that people (as in, the general public) don't know what to make of Adam. Partly this is because of his voice. Partly because on Idol he adopted a rock strategy. This was really fitting at the time and it made him get to #2, so I think it was a brilliant decision, but it did put him into a box that now he needs to fight to get out of. ETA: I said his first two singles are subpar, but I should say that I think NCOE is a really solid pop song, and, while not frame-breaking, it fits perfectly in today's pop. So I definitely think it will be (at the very least a moderate) hit.

Love it, thanks for posting, and everyone, this is a MUST READ article! eta: just saw koshka's comment, different strokes for different folks! This article to me points out the many concerns by fans that Adam is just too talented to be singing pop music, his voice is just so much better. Yes - ITA !!

"Let's talk about Glambert".. Amazing how everyone sees Adam and his future differently,of course what Adam wants doesn't often come into play. It's kind of like "Six Blind Men and an Elephant"
The truth is Adam can sing anything and he probably will.. Coming up Queen. The other truth is that Adam has a record label that he works for,so he's not totally free to do whatever, beside that he keeps changing it up. Adam did say that the vision for Trespassing changed during the making of the album. I also think that he chose songs based on how he could give them different sounds and styles when performing them live. He's talked about keeping the material fresh in the past, when talking about his first CD.
Like the weather in Asheville, give Adam ten minutes and he will change.Isn't that what many of us just love about him,he's never boring or predictable? Adam doesn't belong in anyone's box,he seems to love wearing different images and toying with different vocals from different genres and different eras. So for those fans who can appreciate the ups and downs of a fantastic exciting ride,It's all good no it's all GREAT.
The fallacy of the article lies in the belief that the author, like so many others, wants Adam to do her bidding . As noted many times before,Adam will be true to Adam,no matter what.
IMHO POP music is getting much better, better voices coming to the forefront, like Adele, like Adam. Pop music was great at one time, look back and see all the iconic stars coming from pop music.I think the future looks good for really talented singers.IMHO many people seem to be weary of all the same sounding songs and want innovation and creativity matched by good vocals.

I'm with Koshka SusieFierce and lifetraveler about this article.
So many wrong things about this article. She's projecting her own desires to Adam.
