I am always surprised when people say "Adam was Rock on Idol" because in reality, he only sang 4 rock songs while he was on. Everything else was Pop. Maybe the rock (WLL) just made such a big impression? Idk. Me too! I always have a "wait...WUT" moment when I hear comments like that. ....I'll add to what MWP said. It's not all about the voice for me, either. It's his performance skills, charisma, sex appeal and...yes I'll say it - LOOKS! Many people say they'd stan Adam even if he wasn't gorgeous because of his superlative voice. Not me. Nope. Sorry. *not even gonna duck cuz I've said that from day one* LMAO durberville! For me it's a combination, with the voice pushing me over the edge, but the looks don't hurt either I remember the very first time they showed Adam on Idol as "coming up" before commercial. I remember sharing a shifty-eyed glance with my daughter and then saying a silent prayer that this boy would be able to sing! It was a happy happy revelation!

Maybe the rock (WLL) just made such a big impression? Idk. Another thing people seem to ignore...during and after Idol when Adam was asked about the music he was listening to at that moment, ie what was on his iPod, he said IAMX, Peaches, Kasabian, Goldfrapp, etc. All electronica. Why wouldn't he want to make the type of music he enjoys listening to? I was thrilled because his tastes matched up so perfectly to mine. There's even a screen cap of "Depeche Mode" on his iPod. To sum up, I'm so happy Adam is making an album for me.

www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=11626&MediaType=1&Category=22#Adam Lambert: Gay Community Resistant To Gay Male Pop Stars Singer Adam Lambert has said that the gay community is resistant to celebrate gay male pop stars. The 30-year-old Lambert made his remarks in a cover interview with gay glossy Instinct. “As a community, we're a little bit resistant to a gay male pop star ourselves,” Lambert said. “It's very easy for people to look at my origin, which is American Idol, and automatically assume that I'm a commercial sellout or a puppet or a flash in the pan. I don't think I'm any of those things.” more

So the next question is: why is the gay community resistant to a gay male popstar? Any views? Envy? Its new and unfamiliar? Interesting question. I think the US is somewhat unique in this way. EU, UK even here in Oz there it is really a shrug and so what. What I see less about the music and more about the "will and grace" theory. In order to get more people to embrace idea of equal rights and marriage for gays, gay America has worked hard over past while to be just like "us" and if gay sexuality was alluded to at all it was in comedic situations (like on successful TV show Will and Grace). Adam doesn't play that game. He is who he is - he's the guy who'll kiss his base player tongue and all on national TV (as opposed to chaste nice kisses or romantic kisses). He plonks his sexuality on the table (metaphorically speaking). And that is I think what the male gay community worries about. And yes although I'm using the collective here I do realise that the gay community doesn't do anything as "one" They have worked hard to shed the "party and screw anything that moves" label that was attached to them for so long, and along comes Adam and will supporting him undermine that... easy to support the "strong women" they are no threat to status quo you're trying to build up. But then I'm not gay so what the hell do I know. Adam is firmly in the "gay second" category. By that I mean he tries not to let his life revolve around it, and I'm the same. It's the mindset of "it's just a sexuality". There's a lot of gay guys who are "gay first" though, spend their life shouting loud and proud that they're gay from the rooftops, campaigning for rights, hitting back at homophobes and very conservative people for example. That's fine but people like me and Adam don't get too deep into it. Sure he made the It Gets Better video and Outlaws of Love but for the main part he just puts it on the side and leaves it to other people, because he's happy in his own sexuality, believes that in the grand scheme of things sexuality doesn't even matter that much, and prefers to just stick to the music. Sadly lots of the "gay first" people don't like that kind of attitude, they see it as a "betrayal" of sorts. Quite sad really :(
