Wow. Such a big misunderstanding here to cassie's answer to my question about the background singers! Perhaps the whole thing should have been brought over from last night instead of just part?! :-/ Cassie DID say they are really good and that Adam found them because he has DEEP connections in LA. One of those being Brian! Seems to me you are all saying the same thing but arguing about it! Hmmmm....well we can all agree they are a huge asset to the band, yes? I love them and never want them to leave. But I assume that everyone except for Adam is replaceable at all times and that is the reality, so I try not to get too attached to anyone except Adam. He is difficult enough for me to keep up with! And this has always been my stand on the subject of the band! Always! I have many posts in the past that say exactly what you just said. As far as I'm concerned, Adam could change his entire band out each era. There are plenty of talented people out there to replace them. No one is irreplaceable. Adam is a solo artist. Plus, it would be a way to shake the cray cray bandberts off! Just kidding...sort of.

ame. Please don't leave. The last time someone on Atop bit my head off for no good reason, I went outside with my lunch bag and broke down in tears. Being misunderstood is seriously painful for an introverted person. I considered just quietly deleting my account and walking away, closing the door behind me and never looking back.
Then I thought about all the fun, great people I would miss -- people I would name except I don't want to miss one -- and decided not to let my fun be ruined, and I came back on and posted as much or more than ever.
As JFK said, Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
My two cents about the backup singers and the inexplicable debate about it. Leadership is critical to the success of any organization. I work in a research library. We had extremely successful projects for years considering our size and funding. I was proud to work here because we had such great, dedicated, talented and amazing people who cared passionately about the cause here. Once for reasons too tedious to explain the bosses were all gone for a month. Things ran as well or better than ever and we got tons done. We were so motivated!
Then our old boss retired and we got a new boss. Now we can't do anything right. Our projects are poorly conceived failures, the staff is demotivated and at each other's throats, and it's hell to work here. Even our small wins feel like defeats.
The staff members have not changed. The leadership is what has changed.
It denigrates no one's talent to point out that having a driven leader who appreciates talent, empowers his talent to suggest ideas, and is intuitive about people will get great results. Adam is growing into that man and good for him, and good for us. My 2 cents.

A morning off is a morning to listen to theiPod, Adam songs piped loudly into the house, just me and my dogs, making breakfast dancing in my kitchen. WWFM from AI just popped up in the randomized selection I have going. I haven't heard this in a while. I can't wait to see what he does on AI this year.

Ugh, I'm tired of my posts getting eaten twice, so in brief -- tigerlily, I understood your argument for the middle ground and it made perfect sense to me.
From my limited understanding I'm not sure the classical conductor analogy fits. Brian London rehearsed the group and backup for days before Adam joined them for final rehearsals. To my untrained ears they all sounded more cohesive and tight at NNN and Kimmel than in previous performances. Whether it was new people or a new musical director, it all sounds great to me!

I would like to see him keep his core people, only because there is a cohesiveness that builds over time with consistency of band mates. There is more opportunity for things like the FS WLL to happen when he has worked with someone for a long time. He and monte had played together for years before, so they had an understanding of their inner workings and could improvise successfully because of it. So my hope is that he and Tommy will continue to learn how to improvise off each other for the live shows. Good stuff happens when he goes off the beaten path.
