yeah, Misha, this really bugged me too, but I haven't mentioned it. I am afraid to say that Adam will use this constantly, as much as he introduced Tommy as "Pretty Kitty". I think he thinks it is cute and funny, and apparently the Diva's don't mind. I do, and think it is demeaning, but I am not them. Unless there is a twitter outcry that Adam catches wind of, I'm afraid we will be stuck with it for the tour. Yeah, it's a big hell to the no for me. I don't think I'm a prude. And perhaps I'm a hypocrite because I enjoy a little (certainly the wrong word in relation to Adam) penis talk and photos from time to time. I also think the female body is beautiful. However, I find it degrading to verbally reduce women to a body part on a public stage, especially black women, who are historically sexualized--not to make it a race thing, because I'd be upset no matter who the women were. I'd feel the same way if he called his all-male dancers the Peen. It ain't cute. I think it's tacky and demeaning. I understand where the Vajayjay name may have originated from, given that the singers add another shot of estrogen to the group, and maybe it works in a private rehearsal room. Maybe the ladies even came up with the name, I don't know. But it's a bigger issue than just them and impacts more than just them when he's announcing it on a public stage in front of thousands. If Keisha or Octavia now, or ever, feel uncomfortable with that moniker I hope they know they can approach Adam about it or just ask him to call them by their names instead and not fear that he'd be bothered. I don't think he means to objectify them and I think he'd be the last person to ever take offensive at that request! But the crux of what you just said is that you don't know who came up with the nickname. You were offended, which is your right, but what about others who weren't offended by that but might be offended by something else? when does it end? where is the line drawn between Adam's right to express himself in a way he feels comfortable and our right as fans to expect him to adhere to our social standards? Adam is one person trying to please the many and as the saying goes, you can't please everyone so you can only try to please yourself.

Women in general, and these girls in particular, I am sure, are able to stand for themselves if needed. And why on earth would Adam objectify 2 WOMEN!

ITA Misha & Mahailia. Well stated. Hope he rethinks this & comes up with a different name. It really did not sit well with me when he said it. Love his sense of humor usually, but not the frat boy thing. My first instinct is to feel at best ambivalent, leaning towards uncomfortable with the term yet many if not most younger people are using formerly held as derogatory terms and flipping them...using them with affectation and affirmation to take the sting and power right away from them. The most famous example...not yet normalized beyone a particular group...is "nigger" but there are many... bitch...ho...queer...queen...that are used very strategically to remove their sting! Anyone who has sat through the Vagina Monologues knows the power of being forced to vocalize "cunt" in unison. Using the name Vajajays may have just a little of this in the name choice. The use of sexual terminology, dare I say, the excessive to many of us use of sexual terminology may be part youthful exuberance and part rebellion. Adam seems so evolved in many ways we forget he is still young, and not terribly evolved in this particular area :-/ OTT...Eve Ensler [author of the Vagina Monologues] is the keynote speaker at the upcoming NOW convention...

Adam is one person trying to please the many and as the saying goes, you can't please everyone so you can only try to please yourself. Well, here ya go, making me think again... : There is a huge range of experience here, whether it's people from different cultures in different countries - or different cultures in a town of 2,000. Some swear and use sexual terms without thinking twice - others "wouldn't say sh*t if they had a mouthful." I can't remember what the subject was, but a while back someone said what is important is the *intent* of what is said. I try to go with that. Since my favorite person's favorite word seems to be f*ck, and he knows the definition of almost every word/phrase in the urban dictionary, I have learned to be a little mellow about a particular word or phrase here or there... ;D What I have to work on is speaking up more when the intent is truly malicious. Not easy, but I'm working on it.

Here's a novel idea. The girls are on twitter and obviously freely engage with the fans. Why don't those of you who are concerned about the nickname simply ask them how they feel about it?
The intent behind the words is much more powerful than the word itself. When we remove all context from around the words we are deliberately sabotaging communication. Bullies often use the excuse that they are only teasing but the difference between teasing and bullying is often not in the words themselves but the intent and context of the words.
In dog obedience classes one of the demonstrations that trainers often do involves cussing your dog out using but in the sweetest most saccharine tones. Every one laughs because the dogs reacts with joy and love but then the trainer uses loving words with harsh negative tones and the dogs cringe. People in reality often react the same way. Being from the South I have experienced being dressed down and totally humiliated by people using perfectly acceptable even complimentary words yet delivered with the utmost contempt. It was not the words themselves that hurt me. I have also been with groups of people who use language the is considered derogatory and insulting but the atmosphere and deliverance are of acceptance, love and unity.
As Adam is trying to say in Broken English the words are only the "tip of the iceberg" and there is a lot of communication that is not only possible but in some ways much clearer when you look beyond the words.

Adam is not always subtle when it comes to sexual humor and my guess is that The Vajayjays name is here to stay. (this is the man who felt compelled to explain where "iceberg...just the tip" was!) When I first heard him introduce the girls on Kimmel, I didn't hear it clearly and I thought he said The O'Jays, which was the name of a old great Motown group. Then I realized what he had actually said and thought it was really funny because it SOUNDS like it could have been the name of an old Motown group, like the Marvellettes or the Chiffons. Ladies and Gentleman, Adam Lambert and the Vajayjays!
Still makes me giggle.This. MTE :D And also this: But the crux of what you just said is that you don't know who came up with the nickname. I say, let Adam do his thang and everyone else react as natural to them. We are free to express our views and he's free to change something in his free expression - or not. :D
