Va-Jay-Jay has been around for while.. it's really a non-offensive slang and I don't understand the disgust over its use. It's part of the pop culture lexicon and the person who probably was most responsible for bringing the word to the public's attention was Oprah. (And The Soup)

thank you Gabby and nonchallance! I am not going to any of the concerts but for some weird reason I take pleasure in researching the venues and charts and ticket prices... : Ditto the thanks & interest, though I'm not going.

TWO UK bonus tracks? I hope neither of them is By The Rules, then we're a tiny bit closer to hearing all 50 songs he recorded last year ;D

Here's a novel idea. The girls are on twitter and obviously freely engage with the fans. Why don't those of you who are concerned about the nickname simply ask them how they feel about it? The intent behind the words is much more powerful than the word itself. When we remove all context from around the words we are deliberately sabotaging communication. Bullies often use the excuse that they are only teasing but the difference between teasing and bullying is often not in the words themselves but the intent and context of the words. In dog obedience classes one of the demonstrations that trainers often do involves cussing your dog out using but in the sweetest most saccharine tones. Every one laughs because the dogs reacts with joy and love but then the trainer uses loving words with harsh negative tones and the dogs cringe. People in reality often react the same way. Being from the South I have experienced being dressed down and totally humiliated by people using perfectly acceptable even complimentary words yet delivered with the utmost contempt. It was not the words themselves that hurt me. I have also been with groups of people who use language the is considered derogatory and insulting but the atmosphere and deliverance are of acceptance, love and unity. As Adam is trying to say in Broken English the words are only the "tip of the iceberg" and there is a lot of communication that is not only possible but in some ways much clearer when you look beyond the words. Love this!!!!! So true. Bless your heart comes to mind.

Yeah, it's a big hell to the no for me. I don't think I'm a prude. And perhaps I'm a hypocrite because I enjoy a little (certainly the wrong word in relation to Adam) penis talk and photos from time to time. I also think the female body is beautiful. However, I find it degrading to verbally reduce women to a body part on a public stage, especially black women, who are historically sexualized--not to make it a race thing, because I'd be upset no matter who the women were. I'd feel the same way if he called his all-male dancers the Peen. It ain't cute. I think it's tacky and demeaning. I understand where the Vajayjay name may have originated from, given that the singers add another shot of estrogen to the group, and maybe it works in a private rehearsal room. Maybe the ladies even came up with the name, I don't know. But it's a bigger issue than just them and impacts more than just them when he's announcing it on a public stage in front of thousands. If Keisha or Octavia now, or ever, feel uncomfortable with that moniker I hope they know they can approach Adam about it or just ask him to call them by their names instead and not fear that he'd be bothered. I don't think he means to objectify them and I think he'd be the last person to ever take offensive at that request! But the crux of what you just said is that you don't know who came up with the nickname. You were offended, which is your right, but what about others who weren't offended by that but might be offended by something else? when does it end? where is the line drawn between Adam's right to express himself in a way he feels comfortable and our right as fans to expect him to adhere to our social standards? Adam is one person trying to please the many and as the saying goes, you can't please everyone so you can only try to please yourself. Yes, but I also said, "it's a bigger issue than just them and impacts more than just them when he's announcing it on a public stage in front of thousands." If others aren't offended it's their perfect right to say so, just as I stated my opinion. I didn't say that I expected Adam to adhere to my social standards or that I expect (or desire) in any way to dictate his actions or the way he expresses himself. I said that if he used the term again that I'd vehemently voice my objection to it. But I lied, and didn't wait that long. Adam is the only one who can control what he says and does. Maybe he will consider other people's thoughts on the matter and drop the new name if he feels there's any merit to their views. Luckily, Neil worked for Jill Scott and knew a good thing when he heard and saw it and recommended the A group to Adam. Adam agreed, Brian and the ladies worked hard individually and together, and Adam worked hard on his lead vocals and together with the others to make adjustments and to blend all their voices together. Once again, credit goes to everyone involved for working hard, being talented, and recognizing talent when you see it! LOL, this is a merry-go-round that I will happily get off of, but just in answer to this point, as I posted earlier today, the A-Group did not sing backup on the Jill Scott tour that Neil traveled with last summer so I don't think he heard and suggested them based on that touring experience. And as geeky posted earlier, Octavia said that Brian recommended them. crispy, I agree about the Motown sounding names! When I first saw the video I thought Adam and the band probably get a kick out of the name because it sounds like an R&B supergroup even though I think it's cringeworthy and not well thought out.

And as geeky posted earlier, Octavia said that Brian recommended them. Cool! Then kudos to Brian for recommending these talented ladies. That MD job is already paying off. It's part of the pop culture lexicon and the person who probably was most responsible for bringing the word to the public's attention was Oprah. (And The Soup) Don't forget the word originated from the show Grey's Anatomy. The writer had to come up with a "pet name" for the word Vagina, because TV execs found the proper term for the anatomy of a woman so offensive. (no lie) The show had used the word Penis a million times, but the word Vagina was terribly offensive. :

I have watched Oprah maybe 3 times ever, and once was when Adam was on. Never seen this vid before. I didn't know this was such a "pop"ular term. I guess the big deal is for peeps like me who aren't so innudated with what is "hot" and "cool". I don't get it, sorry. To me, it is not cute and not funny, it is tacky and in poor taste. Just my humble opinion here. eta: deleted for fear of being permanently ostracised (sp?) on this board.

Even though Adam is FIERCE, he's also a bit nerdy and niave (immature ) sometimes. Ditch vjj, and call them what they are... the DIVAs!! Or..... what Mszue said. (Mszue you're so deep and so wise. I almost wouldn't think you are the same person who owns a delish pair of glam slippers.) 8-)
