When someone says "why don't you/they get it" or "why is this so difficult to understand" or "what is wrong with those cray-crays" you are attacking others' taste and/or intelligence. The emphasis has moved from the opinion or dissension of the speaker to the taste or intelligence of the other. I am sure that is not what was meant but it sure is what often gets heard. jmho :-) Drive-by posting again, life is too busy. Not really a bad thing, for the most part. But wanted to say that I appreciate this post, Mszue, and I agree with you. I'm someone who is intellectually prone to being very reasonable and open-minded and able to see (as well as wanting to see) all sides of an argument, and yet my EMOTIONAL responses are often very reactionary. I recognize this, and generally try not to verbalize my reactionary feelings. I often find myself feeling confused and stressed by stanning and fandom. Which is not to say that it isn't also hilarious and invigorating and joyous. Confrontation makes me really uncomfortable. I don't think that's necessarily a good thing, but I haven't yet been able to change that. I don't think I ever feel "offended". I might be hurt, or angry, or ANNOYED, but not offended. I think Adam is like that, too. I can't quite picture him being "offended" by anyone or anything. Not saying I'm like Adam! Wish I was more like him! Irish, your frank appreciation of Adam's physical beauty makes me smile. I don't think I'm that much younger than you, but I feel like a beginner at life. I envy you your apparent contentment and clarity. One thing that is apparent in life, as well as in this forum, is how much perspectives can differ. And we don't always have all the information to appreciate another's point of view. Not to mention that in my case, sometimes even *I* don't know what the hell I'm trying to say. : One thing of which some of the discussions recently reminded me is my initial reactions to Adam. First thing that drew me in was the voice. Secondly, and this is relevant to some of the recent discussions, was his sexual energy and appeal. And the third thing was his joyous performance energy. The second thing, the sexual energy, was confusing to me -- and I guess it still is in some ways. Way too late to go too far down this path, and I haven't thought this through very well, but I definitely wondered why I felt so attracted to someone who had no sexual interest in women. It was confusing and intriguing to me that I was attracted to him in spite of the lack of reciprocity. Not that Keanu Reeves, my only other adult celebrity crush (in the '90s), reciprocated my feelings, LOL. But the fantasy of that possibility was there. With Adam, it isn't -- there's only the fantasy of him with other men. And yet he's still completely sexually intriguing to me. OK, I can't keep going with this topic, and I have no idea what it all means. But one day I hope to figure it out, lol. Just not going to tell the men in my life about it! What a lovely post Ksha! I especially love your disclosure and questions about Adam being so sexually intriguing. I feel that is one aspect of him that many are drawn to. We need it, in a world where many communities repress and yet are obsessed with sex. What he embodies in his presence is so different. And yes! so frickin sexy. I am very interested in this topic so Im looking forward to hearing what other Atoppers might say on it.

Catching up on the vayjayjay discussion. Y'all know I had no idea that this is their official nickname this morning when I posted? It's true. Anyway, I have had some time to catch up and have loved everyone's observations, opinions. How we refer to our most private places and how others refer to our private places is serious business. Take the word "cunt" derived from the goddess Cunti, one of the goddesses of love. Patriarchy turned the root of her name into something dirty. I am all about reclaiming the power of that word. Vagina, if you look into its Latin roots means "sheath for a sword" and indeed it's context is connected to war trophies of the Romans after raping and pillaging. I hear the female anatomy referred to in many ways as my profession exposes me to that particular body part over and over again. Most women prefer proper terms, or some private way of referring to themselves. Vayjayjay is not as uncommon as you would think. The twenty something generation seems to use it rather frequently. For myself, I prefer yoni, as its origins are not quite so violent as the word vagina. I keep it professional and use scientific terms as much as possible, but if a woman shares a slang term that she is comfortable with, I use her language. I love your informative and rational post. Heck, I love YOU. OMG i missed this post (and thus love it being highlighted by Aloha). This is awesome. I am totally in agreement with this. I reclaim the word cunt for kunti and i like the word Yoni. And the Vajajay was a sheath - interesting! lots of meanings. Sheath is protective but passive. I'm going to reconfigure the vagina to be proactive and awesome. a complete match for the sword!

I just wanna say in a dense and obscure way with no rational justifications that I see Mr Lambert as one of the most honouring individuals when it comes to "the Feminine".
There's just something in him which expresses feminine aspects so well.
I probably should remove the term "feminine" since there's a huge debate about what that really means.
Lets just say he offers a different set of values to the 21st mainstream patriarchy and I love it.

It was late in the season on American Idol when I first saw Adam: "rock" night and I was attracted to his looks first of all. His amazing voice and stage presence sealed the deal and I was a goner.
Yeah, his sex appeal is part of the package for me! I enjoy appreciating his beauty and physical attributes as well as his phenomenal talent!

Some performers have the "it factor" without being sexually appealing...I think! Adam has both in my view. He also has the "lovable" energy. Hmmm. its pretty layered with that guy.

Vajayjay, shmajayjay if they are cool with it and he is cool with it I am cool with it. And the girls don't strike me a wall flowers so am sure if they weren't cool with it they would let him know. So not sure what all the fuss is about. Agree with earlier posters that if the penis is fair game not sure why the vagina should be sacred. And after all is not like he coined the term :-) YMMV #teamwhateverhewantstocallhisbackupsingersisfinewithme Moving on. This. I'm not offended and don't care and scrolled through most of the discussion. It's just two back-up singers we're talking about. I bet they're not offended.

Sorry to extend the vajayjay conversations but: Yes, Adam shouldn't have to please people but if he is trying to make it mainstream he needs to consider the message he is putting out there to new fans. There are enough here with objections to make me concerned what preconceived notions the general public might make upon hearing this term. Adam takes his show to many venues--do I see him calling these ladies vajayjay's on AI? I don't think that would be so good. The label he gives these ladies will stand alone without context and opinions will be formed without knowing Adam or his artistry. Whereas Adam may be ultra provocative on stage, his acting out sexual acts always fits the moment and the music. He can get ultra dirty with his microphone during a deep and dirty rendition of WLL but that wouldn't translate the same if he were to be titled "masturbator" during a morning show interview. And there is a big difference between us talking about the GB among others who are fans, verses the message Adam is projecting to the general public. Just a small point here that we in the bubble of hard core fan world may be forgetting. Adam did not introduce the band during the televised portion of the show. Only three of the songs were filmed professionally and were on media websites, NCOE, Trespassing and Hollywood Reporter posted Naked Love. The band was introduced at the very end of Cuckoo and the only people who are seeing it for the most part are already invested fans. It may well be that he never uses the term again or he may only use it at live performances. But here is the thing, although Adam does want mainstream success he seems to have a pretty good grasp on how much he wants to edit or change himself to do that. For the most part people who are not willing to look deeper aren't going to and too much polishing of the image becomes a trap and puts you in danger of loosing yourself to the "public image". Adam has said several times in recent interviews that "at the moment" he is drawn to simpler more comfortable fashion but he also has said that is not to say that he isn't still left of center in his choices. Believe it or not he will probably actually loose some fans too with this change of direction because I have seen comments that people think he is chickening out by not being so flamboyant anymore. There are some who now think he is boring. No matter what he does he runs the risks of loosing fans or not getting through to new ones so his best bet is still the be himself and let the chips fall where they may. From the very beginning he has said he is going to be him and if people don't like it they can buy someone else' record.
