For the sake of accuracy, Madonna's fans had the choice to buy the deluxe CD when they bought concert tickets. She did not giive away her CD for free. Also, around 450K US buyers downloaded Lady Gaga's BTW for 99 cents on the first weekend it was available. Gaga's album sold an additional 650K at retail price that weekend. Her worldwide sales now stand at somewhere around six million. Gaga is still selling full CDs. Ok I said almost for nothing...I believe Gaga made her music and the industry a bit worthless with that 99 cent sale. Now other stars including Adam ,are doing the same thing. The figures you give ,are not a glorious amount of sales for two of the most famous and beloved stars. Are the figures you gave for Gaga's world wide sales for her last album??? Adam is not there yet and he may never be the supersonic star the above are. My point was and is that music sales have come down considerably even for the greats. I stand by that. Yes there are the few like Adele, the Biebs who have broken out of the doldrums in the record business.JMHO Downloading for free doesn't help especially for new artists. Gaga...Beloved? She is polarizing, not everyone is going to "get her". Katy and Adele are beloved. It's hard to find stans for Katy Perry, but she is the girl everyone likes. Anytime any artist can sell 650K in their first week, they are doing very well in this climate. The figures I gave are for Gaga's last album and she continues to sell the BTW album and singles in every country she is stopping at on her WW tour. Six million may not seem like much to you, but it places her in the top 10 artists as far as worldwide sales. I know what your point was and I know overall album sales have dropped- everyone knows that and I'm not disputing that. For accuracy's sake, it's nice if the facts are stated, instead of a generalizedl statement about Madonna and Gaga saying that they gave away their music for free. Madonna still sold her CD for retail price that went with her concert tickets and Gaga has 5.5 million in album sales outside of the 99 cent sale.

Amazon: 5/20/12 600 PM: Trespassing (Deluxe Version) #6 in Music #2 in Music > Alternative Rock #2 in Music > Pop > Adult Alternative #5 in Music > Rock
5/27/12 659 PM: Trespassing (Deluxe Version) #13 in Music #3 in Music > Alternative Rock #3 in Music > Pop > Adult Alternative #10 in Music > Rock

Target: 6/10/12 340 PM: Trespassing (Deluxe Version) #38 in Music Bestsellers 6/14/12 100 PM: Trespassing (Deluxe Version) not in Top 200
Trying to stabilize on iTunes and Amazon, but major drops on Barnes & Noble and Target. Not sure how often the B&N and Target charts update though, those higher numbers from Sunday could have been artificially boosted if the update happens on Mondays for example. I thought it was strange that the album had dropped off the Target chart completely, but I tried several different combinations of options on the webpage and did not find it listed anywhere.
Of course the most recent change period is only 4 days from 6/10 to 6/14, not an entire week, so we'll have to see what the numbers look like on Sunday afternoon to get a better idea of the trends.
NCOE still does not have sufficient AI to really drive sales, so it’s going to be hard for the album to maintain position IMO, especially with Adam in the UK for most of the next month.

I don't see anything criminal in putting BTIKM for a free download. It's not like RCA is giving away a potential hit. The song has proven to be of a low commercial value in many parts of the world. But it's a good marketing move and can help lure potential music buyers. The scheme is simple: people like free things -> people download the song -> people may like it -> people may get interested in his stuff which in its turn may result in buying the album. What seems like a short term loss might become a long term gain in the end.
I see that CHR is spincreasing. I do not know how long it will take for NCOE to get to a position where it is able to sell the album but I like the tendency. HAC negative fluctuations are temporal not systematic, so no worries here either.
And to be clear with Gaga: Amazon made a decision to sell her album at $o.99 as a way to promote its new Cloud Drive service (remote servers where you can store and stream music files),but the company paid Gaga the full price for each sold copy. She didn't lose a single cent though it looks like she did.
