Hi guys. Sorry, I haven’t had time to read the threads, so no comments on anything for now.
My theory on why the world will not end next Friday.....................
Last Thursday, we were invited to a work related Holiday party. We got there and the valet was helping me out of the car. My left foot did not support my weight, I twisted it and BROKE MY FUCKING FOOT! Part of the remaining effects of breaking my neck is that I still don’t have total feeling from my waist down and from my elbows down to my fingers. One of the things I have been very careful about is falling off/out of my shoes and breaking something. Well, that’s was happened. I couldn’t really tell if I broke anything. Decided not to go to the emergency room and wait and go to a podiatrist the next day. He took an x-ray and told me I broke it. I got one of those boot things that feels like a ski boot but goes all the way up to my knee. I go back on Wednesday to see if I need surgery.
So, 8 months of therapy for the nerve damage from my neck. I still need more, but have to stop because of the fucking foot. As I said, the feeling has not returned to the areas affected and it feels like when your foot is asleep – 24/7. I’m still learning how to use my hands and get my balance back.
When I fell and broke my neck, I also tore my left rotator cuff in 3 places (it hurts like hell ‘cause unfortunately my shoulder is not numb – lol). I need surgery, but the neuro-surgeon will not release me for that until my neck is fully fused. I don’t know if he’ll let me get the foot surgery either, so it might be 6 to 8 weeks of wearing the fucking boot and hoping that it heals on it’s own.
So, whoa is me, as they say. I’m will keep a positive attitude DAMMIT! :-/Thank god for my little Misty to keep me smiling.
Back to the reason the world will not end next Friday. There is no way in hell that whatever powers control the universe will end my run of bad luck and put me out of my misery. The evil ones are having too much fun with me to do that. So don’t worry, ‘cause it ain’t gonna happen.
Of course my troubles (though true) and prediction are said with humor, so please take it that way........ I actually laughed when the doc told me I broke my foot – what the hell else could I fucking do.
I have a feeling I’ll have a lot of time to spend lurking here in the near future. >:(
ETA: I just told my Mom who has a great snarky sense of humor IMO. She suggested that they knock me out, put me in a full body cast, and wake me some time in the spring. Hmmmmmm, might have to think about that. ;D

Fellow Moon Gardeners - Adam has described his infinity tattoo as the flow of energy and love between people. Jablea is trying to faciliate a similar flow of energy so that we, who have received much positive energy, may now direct a bit back to a source of great light. ~~~ Edited From Jablea's larger post: If you’d like to know more before you pledge, or if you'd like to remain anonymous, please PM me. adamtopia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=inspired&thread=1248&page=1#343377~~~ I know it's a time of year when there's often little to spare, but, if you can, I believe most will find this a smile-inducing exchange from which we will receive more than we give. Do contact Jablea if you have questions - or I'm happy to explain why I'm participating by PM, if that's helpful. ******* Obligatory poem - this time from Kahlil Gibran And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship And he answered saying: Your friend is your needs answered. He is your field which you sow with love and reap with thanksgiving. And he is your board and your fireside. For you come to him with your hunger, and you seek him for peace.

sugaree
bless your little heart, you have had a rough, tough and tumble year. I love your humor, and so glad that we can thank you personally for not ending the world.
I could be worse: There is an old proverb, can't remember where it is from: "I was angry that I had no shoes, until I saw a man that had no feet" Ducky said that on NCIS (my very fave show) recently. You could be in a wheelchair, or paralysed, or dead, but you are not. You are able to to quite a lot, considering.
Your bright and sunny attitude, and your dear Misty and loving hubby will help you to make it through this tough time. If you were asleep in a body cast till spring, you would miss all of Adam's amazing performances coming up in the Non-Tour. I do not mean to make light of your broken foot, but it could be far worse, so just keep counting your blessings. Glam Hugs!!!

Mahalia, I couldn't agree more. I AM lucky. Trust me, I don't feel that way a lot of times, but most times I do. We'll just see what Wednesday brings and keep pluggin' away.
NCIS is my fave show too!

(random thoughts)
Well, I guess Shakespeare is pretty good stuff to read.
Reading some of the earlier posts, I recalled a passage from King Lear in which he is raging against his daughters' treachery:
"Down from the waist they are Centaurs, Though women all above: But to the girdle do the gods inherit, Beneath is all the fiends'; There's hell, there's darkness, there's the sulphurous pit, Burning, scalding, stench, consumption; fie, fie, fie! pah, pah!"
(for some reason, Lear's EXTREME fear/disgust cracks me up - "sulphurous pit"!)
Incidentally, I learned from a game show (of all places), that Lysol(!) was commonly advertised as a "feminine hygiene" product right up until the 1960's. Then, I googled up some of those old ads, and . . . wow.
And, of course, there are the insults "douche" and "douchebag" . . .
*******************
I watched the finale of "The Amazing Race" the other night, anyone else? The couple that won (the "Beekman Boys") were two men who are a couple and their victory kiss was aired (another gay couple's some seasons ago was not). The "Boys" have a website in which they mention, among other things, that the show's producers remind the contestants to keep in mind that they really do represent America to some remote corners of the world during the race. I really appreciated how the Beekman Boys represented. I thought of Adam's comment that it's a "different world."

mika is right. Historically, for much of Western history, women were considered ritually unclean. According to Jewish tradition, a woman's monthly flow of blood put her into a state of ritual defilement. Similar taboos against menstruation existed in pagan Greek and Roman circles. This is the foundation of why women can't be priests in the Catholic Church. Sad but true. But see, the stereotype is so old and out of date that most people today never heard of it. Good news overall!
I live in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood. I'm not jewish and have wondered about the mandate that women cover their hair, don't wear pants and must be separated from their husbands during their menstrual cycle.
While looking up these rules and customs, I came across an interesting story about The Lilith Fair's origins.
Lilithhttp://www.jewfaq.org/women.htm
Lilith is a character who appears in passing in the Talmud and in rabbinical folklore. She is a figure of evil, a female demon who seduces men and threatens babies and women in childbirth. She is described as having long hair and wings (Erub. 100b; Nid. 24b). It is said that she seizes men who sleep in a house alone, like a succubus (Shab. 151b). She is also mentioned in midrashim and kabbalistic works, in which she is considered to be the mother of demons. Her name probably comes from the Hebrew word for night (laila). She is similar to and probably based on a pagan demon named Lulu or Lilu that appears in Gilgamesh and other Sumerian and Babylonian folklore.
In recent years, some women have tried to reinvent Lilith, turning her into a role model for women who do not accept male domination or a rival goddess to the traditions that they think are too male-biased. For example, a number of female musical artists participated a concert tour called "Lilith Fair" a few years ago, and the name "Lilith" was clearly chosen to represent female empowerment.
This revisionist view of Lilith is based primarily on a work called the Alphabet of Ben Sira, which portrays Lilith as Adam's first wife who was rejected because she wanted to be on top during sexual intercourse. Lilith was replaced with Eve, a more submissive second wife. The complete story is presented here. Many modern commentators describe this as part of the Talmud or midrash, or at least a traditional Jewish source, and claim that this story reflects the traditional rabbinical understanding of the roles of men and women. Feminists reject the negative characterization of Lilith's actions in this story. They claim Lilith was a hero who was demonized by male-chauvinist rabbis who did not want women to have any sexual power.
Actually, Ben Sira is a much later medieval work of questionable authorship. Ben Sira appears to be a satire or parody, possibly even an antisemitic one. It tells many stories about biblical characters envisioned in non-traditional, often unflattering ways, often with slapstick humor at the expense of traditional heroes. Frankly, to treat Ben Sira as a reflection of traditional Jewish thought is like treating Cervantes' Don Quixote as a treatise on chivalry, or Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles as a documentary of the American West. See this scholarly critique of the use of Ben Sira to turn Lilith into a feminist hero.
Interesting that Sarah McLachlan started the whole Lilith Fair thing. I'm assuming she is not jewish based on her name, though I could be wrong. From wiki:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith_Fair
In 1996, Canadian Sarah McLachlan became frustrated with concert promoters and radio stations that refused to feature two female musicians in a row.[1] Bucking conventional industry wisdom, she booked a successful tour for herself and Paula Cole. At least one of their appearances together — in McLachlan's home town, on September 14, 1996 — went by the name "Lilith Fair" and included performances by McLachlan, Cole, Lisa Loeb and Michelle McAdorey, formerly of Crash Vegas. The next year, McLachlan founded the Lilith Fair tour, taking Lilith from the medieval Jewish legend that Lilith was Adam's first wife. In 1997, Lilith Fair garnered a $16 million gross, making it the top-grossing of any touring festival.[1] Among all concert tours for that year, it was the 16th highest grossing.[1] The festival received several pejorative nicknames, including "Breast-fest" and "Girlapalooza".[2][3] In 2010, Lilith Fair staged a revival with mixed results, as several dates were canceled and many performers backed out of scheduled performances. In March 2011, co-founder Sarah McLachlan declared that the Lilith concept was no longer being considered for future shows due to changing audience views and expectations.[

Anyway, not meaning to get into a discussion on religion, I just thought the story was interesting.ETA: Sorry, I messed up something that I bolded. Couldn't figure out how to fix it.

Wow, such an interesting discussion about the perceptions of women. I admit that for most of my life this was a topic I actively avoided. My sister, who was 10 years older, was an ardent feminist in the '70s and harangued me when I was a "tween" about these issues, so naturally I rejected them! Actually I've gotten more interested in recent years because of 1) the 2008 election and the disrespect which was heaped on the two prominent female candidates, independent of party, age, appearance, etc. -- e.g. just for being female and 2) the disrespect heaped on Adam and his fans. bridget and sugaree, those were both such interesting posts about the cultural roots of misogyny, ancient and modern. Sometimes even the bathing suit ads really slay me -- they are all about "controlling" your body. OMG. Remember the TV show Frasier and his ex-wife Lilith? Now I know that name was no accident! And did you notice this: [sugaree] she is considered to be the mother of demons. Her name probably comes from the Hebrew word for night (laila).I was tickled by this too: the Alphabet of Ben Sira, which portrays Lilith as Adam's first wife who was rejected because she wanted to be on top during sexual intercourse.Years ago, there was a Spanish movie called Woman on Top, a romantic comedy where Penelope Cruz was a woman who had motion sickness and, among other things, had to be on top during sex. She was rejected by her husband because of this. I wouldn't remember except the reviewer in the local paper said he had a very hard time believing any red-blooded man would have a problem with this! ;D This was interesting too: Lilith concept was no longer being considered for future shows due to changing audience views and expectationsI wonder what these are? Me, I'm thinking that it's that ticket prices cost so much now, that audiences are looking for lightweight fun rather than more serious music about truth and feelings. I wonder if that might not be part of why Adam is not always accepted. Even though he sings fun pop, the mere fact that he is gay maybe makes people think he's "political"? Finally, I wanted share some really cool relaxing online "toys." The Tone Matrix is a very fun music toy that lets you make cool ambient music loops. tonematrix.audiotool.com/Pulsate is perhaps even nicer. You make little circles that dance gently and bump into each other, making music. lab.andre-michelle.com/pulsateAnd here are some cool visual ones that are relaxing too: OMG Particles: bl.ocks.org/1062544Collision Detection: mbostock.github.com/d3/talk/20111018/collision.html
