I had to do this in light of yesterday's conversation. ;D The most insulting, sexist country song ever from one of the best albums ever. It's definitely satire and meant to be funny. junie, I just bet you've sung along to this one in a few of those Texas bars . I know I have in some Florida and Georgia ones.

Tons of great stuff here! Alison, that WWTLF video was amazing! I cried. In a good way. Also, I watched that TED Jonathan Haidt video. There was a seed of a good idea in there about the differences in how we form our moral sense from babyhood and in trying to understand one another. But I wish he hadn't tied it into political parties. I realize the video was old and maybe the idea was fresher then. But, though Haidt didn't display it himself (I almost can't believe he tried to classify people based on whether they ate at Applebee's), I did like the idea he put forward about moral humility. That's something we lack these days. Everything's political; everyone has to be right. It's the end of the world if someone disagrees on even the most picayune issue. Our opponents must be evil, or at least stupid. What he was basically saying was walk a mile in the other guy's shoes before you judge him, and that idea needs restating every chance we get. anjalee, that was so interesting what you wrote about Adam's abilities to shift back and forth between yin/yang energies, if that's a good way to put it. I agree with what you said about "androgyny" and how it doesn't quite seem to cover Adam. He is more like a shape-shifter. Though he likes to dress up (Dragon Attack), this identity is NOT a persona or a costume he takes on and off. It's him. Perhaps it does explain why some find him unsettling no matter what efforts he makes to "tone it down." sugaree! Howdy! Awesome Willie videos! Ronnie Dunn sang that song on the ACM Awards, I think. It was the first single off his first solo album. He and Kix decided to go solo for a while; it seems amicable, I think they just needed a break. It really bugs me when people judge country by the decayed state of country radio, which has the same problems as pop radio. Nuf ced. We just had an extremely exciting thing happen here in Austin though. When I was a kid, Austin had some very exciting independent progressive radio, and it played a huge role in the outlaw movement and the establishment of the Austin country and blues scene. Over the years those stations were bought up by corporations and ruined ... Two weeks ago, KOKE-FM premiered as the only independent station in the Austin market and the music is AMAZING. I understand people are already listening in all over the world. You can listen online at kokefm.com/?page_id=2 or on a smartphone app called TuneIn. Someone needs to do this for pop and rock! Finally, have you all seen this? Respect Sally Ride's Decision Not to Come Out: www.cnn.com/2012/07/26/opinion/darrah-sally-ride-lesbian/index.html?hpt=hp_c2To me, Sally Ride was always a huge hero. Rest in peace.

I made the rounds of the singing talent shows in the Florida bars waaaay back when - won a few too. I need a "now playing" thingy so I can learn the artists I don't know.

I made the rounds of the singing talent shows in the Florida bars waaaay back when - won a few too. I need a "now playing" thingy so I can learn the artists I don't know. Yay! I just LOVE the station. It's like taking a large drink of ice-cold water in the middle of the blasted wasteland of radio. They play deep album cuts, weird oldies, and local artists (and promote their shows). Listening to the radio is surprising and fun again. I really hope they make it. Maybe if they do it will serve as a business model for others to do the same for other genres. Wouldn't that be amazing? They even take requests and play them. Last week Kitty Wells died at age 92. She was the first female solo act to make it big in country back in the early 50s. Her voice was very traditional, real mountain music, but they took requests and played them and it was so much fun. OK folks, I promise this is the last country tune. All you Yankees can come back now. ;D ETA: I went and looked at the Wikipedia article about Kitty Wells. Does any of this sound familar? Some others have blazed the trail we're traveling now. - [Wells signed] with RCA Victor in 1949 ... while these early records gained some notice, promoters still weren't keen on promoting female singers, and therefore Wells was dropped from the label in 1950. - (Wells' signature song) "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels" was controversial at the time, and was banned by many radio stations. It was also temporarily banned from the Grand Ole Opry. Nevertheless, audiences couldn’t get enough of it. The single took off during the summer of 1952, and sold more than 800,000 copies in its initial release. It became the first single by a female singer to peak at No. 1 [on] the country music chart ... also crossed over to Billboard’s pop charts, hitting No. 27. - Record companies were reluctant to issue albums by country's female artists until Wells proved that women could sell. She became the first female country singer to issue an LP. - She continued to put much of herself into her songs throughout her career, inspiring other female country singers to record risky material as well.

I love Kitty. Didn't know about her passing. RIP. I'm sure she paved the way for Loretta to write some of her risky (for the times) stuff.

OK you guys. I am sorry in advance for what I am about to do. I'm feeling cuckoo. Last year, I got an Adam friend who makes anime dolls to make me an Adam doll. It turned out rather awesome. On a visit to New Orleans some years ago, I got a stuffed Robert E. Lee doll. Also handmade and rather awesome. Do you know where this is going? When Adam arrived in the mail, there seemed only one thing to do.

Y'all done gone crazy while I was gone. And Junie that doll thing is wrong, so wrong. I do not believe this is what the Lees of Virginia had in mind - lol. Is anyone else driven crazy by cold medicine? I usually avoid it for this very reason but no time to be sick this week. Why does no one ever make a sound case for giving up? I'd like to hand in my card - courteously. I just feel that, much like at the museum, I've seen everything I was interested in my price range, but the tour just goes on and on. Round and round. Ah, well. And Mick Jagger's 69?! Wow - hard to believe. (ETA: Junie, thank you, I haven't thought of Kinky Friedman in years but a friend used to love, love his mysteries and quote lines at random moments esp about the lesbian dance class forever rehearsing on the floor above fictional Kinky's office.)
