OK you guys. I am sorry in advance for what I am about to do. I'm feeling cuckoo. Last year, I got an Adam friend who makes anime dolls to make me an Adam doll. It turned out rather awesome. On a visit to New Orleans some years ago, I got a stuffed Robert E. Lee doll. Also handmade and rather awesome. Do you know where this is going? When Adam arrived in the mail, there seemed only one thing to do. tOTES.

Mellie, I think you might be selling most men short. There surely are ones that fall into the category of those described in Paisley's song or the inept father/husband portrayed in most sitcoms. Most of the men I know are extremely capable in all areas of life. My husband is an example--he taught me to cook, do laundry, etc--he is an extremely openminded and sensitive person and is probably better at parenting than me. I think this representation is unfair and stereotypical to men in general. Misogyny is very real, but lumping all men into one category doesn't help or change matters either. My husband is like yours, Alison. My husband does the grocery shopping, the cooking, the laundry and his part of the house cleaning. He has a lot more energy than I do these days, lol. My daughter and her husband share all household and child-rearing responsibilities equally. She cooks because she loves that, so he cleans it all up afterward.

Guess this is my cue to delurk on this thread, if I am to be fair. My husband is one of these, as well. I haven't cooked in 20 years - he does all that, shares in the housework as well. When my son was younger, he wasn't actively involved in parenting but would take on my share of the housework in order to free up my time for the kid. This, despite the fact that he has always suffered from several disabilities and worked full-time at a very demanding job. With an appreciation of the discourse that takes place here, I return to the audience.

Adam Lambert þ@adamlambert I swear my song "Chokehold" should be the theme for 50 Shades of Gray. Riiiiight? Buffy says no, really really no.

Buffy says no, really really no. Mika, I thought of you when some girlfriends of mine were reading it for their book club. They kept telling me how wonderful it was and loaned me a copy. I couldn't get through more than 20 pages. The writing was SO bad. I felt like a snob when I told my friend why I didn't read it. I am not the reader that most moonies are, and I am usually over my head. But the offerings here are so beautiful that my tastes have been elevated. I love what I learn here.

I'm really not a snob - I read everything - lots of paperback genre fiction - but I leafed (gingerly ) through that book and it was just so badly written I couldn't stop - and felt sad for the scores of romance writers out there who are so much better. Have you seen this - it made me chuckle. The lip biting was esp spot on... Good for Selena Gomez. ETA: Of course, there have been a few examples of bad books that become good movies, but it's hard to see that happening here...

;DThat was funny. I never really paid much attention before to how adorable Selena Gomez is. I should go watch some more funny or die clips--I could use a laugh. Remember Pearl the Landlord?

Mika: while we're launching hated run-away hits at you, did you see the guilty pleasures video on the NYTimes site today? I enjoyed it (I love A. O. Scott, I gotta say), but I couldn't help thinking of you when they all went gaga over "Call Me Maybe." ;D. Still, given what a guilty pleasure this place is for me, I thought it would be appropriate to share. artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/07/27/the-sweet-spot-july-27/And Mika, to make up for the call-me-maybe-love, here's this, cribbed from Alisan's twitter: (just trying to cheer myself up for having had a ticket to the concert tonight and having had to give it up.)

Argh!!! I think it's some sort of conspiracy - alien or govt - people are being controlled. It's a hoooorrrrible song!!!! Thank you very much for the cartoon - it was def some comfort now that I feel trusty A.O. Scott has betrayed me. I know Peter Travers would never go along with this! And Christian Bale (I'm a big Christian Bale/Dark Knight fan) would wrinkle his haughty, well formed nose in disgust --- sometimes a friend and I lounge about and have the same debates over and over - among our frequent discussions is whether I should appreciate 'Laurel Canyon' more (btw you and me - not gonna happen ). I'm very sorry - very sorry indeed - you had to give up your ticket. I think it means karma has something even more special waiting for you down the road. Hang on! I'm trying to think if I have guilty pleasures - sure there are plenty of things my friends think I should feel guilty about (my unabashed affection for television - the former WB, lots of CW, and almost the entire USA Channel line up), bad action movies, cheesy special effects. Randomly, I don't understand how people cannot recognize 'Uncle Buck' was a masterpiece. I def wince a little at some songs on my iPod - (though I steadfastly maintain that David Cassidy's 'I think I love you' and 'woke up in love this morning' are far superior to THAT song.) I don't know. For someone who considers Pringles an entree, I probably care too much about Top Chef. Hmmm. Actually, friends consider Adam my guilty pleasure but I am not ashamed!! (The fact that I sing along with Meredith Brooks 'Bitch' - little bit  .) MWP - It's good to hear from you - sadly I've over-medicated and am falling asleep now - it was a long, Africa-hot week - maybe when I wake up Junie and Theosgma will have 'You Are There' Recaps . (And I like his little star/leopard-y shirt - it's cute.)
