I did more online research the other day after the middlemen "independent radio promoters" came up. The method of contact I never see come up here but was very prominent was..... Faxing! Yep, old fashioned but it takes work and it costs money, proving that the fan who sends it really does have skin in the game.
(for international peeps, skin in the game means willing to incur bodily injury to play a sport -- for our purposes it means being serious about connecting to that station by showing willingness to spend money.)

Ya, but if they want a young demogrpahic, that ain't gonna be people who are faxing!

Oh for pity's sake - who still has a fax machine at home??!! People generally have a SCANNER, but then why on earth would one fax? Methinks this might be just a tad outdated...... :

Pretending to by young(er) hasn't gotten us anywhere. [laughs] True. But even the technology is getting outdated. I generally only see faxes in offices anymore....which may be *why* its something the independents may use/may have used, as their music actions is involved within a job. IMO, song requests from individuals are less likely to be faxed, as what office is gonna be sanguine about work machines being used for personal song requests? And most people I know have gotten rid of their home fax machines. In your research, how prominent was the use of faxes, and when did the articles you read get published? Its worth knowing if they've been written in the last 3 or so years before we get excited about another possible method.

Oh wow, my gut feeling is that a fax would just end up in the trash. I don't think that's something fans should start getting into. Texting just makes the most sense on a whole lot of levels

This is from a promoters site. He has a whole series on getting radio play. www.radio-media.com/song-album/articles/airplay13.htmlFor those of us watching timelines he says in another article.. Check out his articles on payola

Interesting..... Hmmm....
This looks like good info from the PROMOTER'S vantage. This seems to be what RCA reps should be doing. (Whether they are or not is a different story)
Not sure, however, if it works from an "Average Joe" vantage. If radio wants to know "how many people in our listener area" are listening, I don't think this sort of faxing arrangement is what they are expecting to see. I think they're going to want to see phone calls, texts, and Twitter.
IMO. YMMV.
