ah, they are talking about promoters with a new song to pimp rather than listeners trying to get through to a station with a request. Makes sense, though I'm not sure whether he is talking more about indy stations / non Top 40 ones.
I was reading through a bunch of questions from DJs/PDs to a testing guru advice column on AllAccess and the form of listener interaction they mentioned the most was phone calls, ie. they noticed when the phones were blowing up for a particular song. I'll try to dig up some quotes and info from that a little later, if I have a chance, it's kind of scattered throughout.

Agree, it certainly couldn't be added to an every day thing by fans, but a targeted one day campaign with Adam pictures and hand drawn fan pictures.......(ooo side thought - is anyone sending hand drawn signs to stations via twitter/email etc like the ones fans show in the youtube videos?) Alright, back to the targeted campaign. The bigger stations don't have faxes listed but a lot of the little ones seem to if you dig. In fact your Portland page has one. www.z100portland.com/pages/contact/index.phpAnd what is everyone's effort on thank you notes? I usually put down on my mediabase request that I heard it while driving to... or it came on at 5:00, thank you. And for those that don't have faxes, well the US Post Office reportedly still works for everything other than Fault magazines. We've been bolloxed with "don't act like Claymates" and don't act your age. Well radio stations should learn that it's the younger generation that is cutting out radio in favor of Pandora etc. If they want to keep listeners for their advertisers then they should be keeping the ones they have. (ok speaking generally of HAC stations because I don't reconize 5/6s of the songs on my top 40 station's mediabase) Anyway, we are following an artist who says "be yourself". I'm not sure the game of "behave like all the other sheep" will work for us. Kids come up with all kinds of out of the box things, it's ok if we do too. |

BTW - something is confusing me. Why is the faxing costing money? Its just a fax. For the promoters with a national campaign it's long-distance phone charges. In his advertisement for an employee he talks about possibly contacting 2000 stations. And pre-computer programs and copy machines that faxed it was all different. But the concept of skin in the game with the phone calls as mentioned earlier does seem to be important. Twitter is anonymous, email is anonymous. The only thing that can really be tracked to a person who isn't spamming (ie one call = one person) is something that requires a phone. Facebook can even be spammed although it takes more work. Nobody mentioned in their request the other day to text z100 that I'd be getting a text back from Elvis Duran. Do they do that on their other request methods? |

When you text Z100 you get a reply for whichever show is on at that time. You probably request in the morning, during Elvis  |

I think the idea of tweeting a picture of a close up of a handwritten note or sign to a station could be kinda cute, and thank you tweets/emails etc. are always good.

the leaders list today is really depressing. the only station who increased their spins compared to last week is Sirius (+3 spins). :( And still no new spinners. Why is RCA not able to push a good pop song at least into Top 50 in CHR? >:(

His tweet about "get the Berts united" has only been retweeted once (granted it's only been up two hours) so I'd say he might have a point that there hasn't been any twitstorm of requests.
Need to put it on the front page and treat it like a contest.
