My thoughts on AI? Why did they need to go abroad to hire someone stupid when our homegrown stupid producers proved themselves to be totally up to the job of running Idol into the ground And you said it in one sentence. (Ok, two.) And Q3, I agree, Adam hasn't really been jerked around by Idol. I'm in the bubble and have to open my eyes sometimes. I think Idol has actually been very good to Adam. The slight bit of "jerking" around regarding the judging is probably just par for the course for this kind of thing. I wonder how many potential judges every year are on hold, on a short list, a long list, in limbo... etc. I still maintain though... Idol needs a kick in the ass apart from the judges to regain some excitement.

Idol is in an interesting place in it's evolution as a television show. The numbers are technically still very good, but it's seen more and more as a failure because it's losing viewers, it has fresher competition and it has all the tribulations of a popular show that's been around for awhile... everybody has an opinion.
I don't think who the judges are really makes much of a difference when it comes to the success of the show. And I don't think they ever really have. The popularity and effectiveness of the judges has always been more of a by-product of the show....not what makes it popular. The judges are there for people to love or hate, but it's not why they tune in, or tune-out, en masse.
Idol's ratings were huge in the beginning because the formula for the show worked. Randy, Paula and Simon were a fun, interesting new judging team. The show was a success, so they were a successful panel. They still had their detractors but it didn't matter because the show was huge!
Even though we have a revolving door of judges lately, I don't think you can blame the judges. They may be rediculous, and I personally have not enjoyed them, but for every 10 people who didn't like Steven tyler, there are 10 who did. I think people will get over the judges IF the SHOW is interesting. The Voice judges are pretty much the same types of artists as Idol's judges but the show itself is new and fresh so it's viewed in a more successful light.
I think Idol needs some new ideas. Having former Idols as judges MAY be a great idea and I would love to see Adam as a judge, but i'm skeptical that judges alone (unless it was something really different like an all Idol panel) will have much of an impact on this show.
I find myself getting kind of pissed as Adam seems to be yanked around with this juding thing. My personal opinion is he had all but signed on the dotted line last year and something went wonky with Randy Jackson needing to stay one more year. I'm so glad he didn't get it though, as I thought it was a weird, cooked, year of stacking the deck for a female winner.
I don't think he's been as close in the running this year. In my baised opinion, signing Adam would be one step in the right direction of somehting new and interesting.... but they aren't asking me. Not even a survey to complete!
Just my thoughts. (I'm usually wrong about my Adam guesses, so if he's already signed, sealed and delivered -- my streak continues.)

He looks happy too! I love it when he wears light jeans. Makes those sexy legs.... well... sexier. I wonder what kind of shower games you play at a superstar popstar shower?

I am weakening. I've never purchased tickets from a reseller. Does anyone have experience with these guys? Is there one who is reputable? Willowgarden I have purchased through Stubhub many times and have never had any problems. I've been weak too. Good luck to you!

Oy Vey, the Idol judging! I have to admit I want this for Adam because he seems to want it. I think his recording career is only part of how he will entertain us. As much as I want new music and a tour (so bad I can taste it), I also want well-paying, fulfilling, creative outlets for Adam in whatever venture he chooses. If he doesn't get it, I have no doubt he will have other amazing things in store for us/him. Craazyforadam, I love your speculation. I think the cooling off on Jhud is interesting. My guess... there was momentum after the finale, but it waned with time and new producers. I also come back to Ryan's comment about the panel being "special." I know that could just be Ryan's hyperbole but it could also mean there is something "special" about this year's show......... what could that be if not former Idol judges? Here's a backwards twist on the SH article. Do you think Adam's team could have floated the idea to Shirley to do an article on the judges to keep Adam's name in the mix? As Mys*&@^#r pointed out, the article did mention they were still in talks with Adam. Shirley does seem friendly with Adam and his peeps.

... and as long as I'm posting... My two-cents on the judging panel. I think Idol needs a jolt. It won't matter two hoots who the judges are. Big name, little names, no names -- unless they do SOMETHING new. I don't know what that is, but pay me a couple million to produce the show and I'll try really hard to figure it out. Maybe that SOMETHING is alumni judges, maybe it's some new novelty like the Voice chairs (only not quite) maybe it's some other production aspect of the show.... but it NEEDS buzz, excitement, freshness... not just another ho-hum panel of judges. And for the record, I do not think Adam would be a "ho-hum" judge.

Am I crazy -- didn't Ryan say they had a great panel of judges indicating the decision was already made? They have to have an African American and a Latina/Latino. What Ryan said: I think, based on what I have heard. The audience that watches American Idol is going to be very excited about the panel that we’ve put together for this Season 13. Its a very special season. And I think you’ll see some good chemistry this year. (I think the interesting comment here is "It's a very special season.") Why?
If I'm dissecting what Ryan said -- yes, the judges are selected... but it is Hollywood so you never know. Interesting that Shirley is floating this story. I can't say for certain because I don't follow her much, but she does seem to have decent nuggets of info fairly consistently... doesn't she? Or does she often do the regurgitated rumor? And also interesting that there really have been no sustainable rumors/leaks on the juding panel for this season. What does that say? Very different than last season where anyone and everyone was mentioned as a possible judge at least once!

The problem with waiting is that for we out of country, or even some distance away, there are so many other factors we have to manage such as time away, airfare and tickets [and if using air miles it is even more difficult, and usually non-refundable] ditto hotel reservations yada yada yada. Just not an option to pick up last minute tickets, or even to count on them turning up. OK...I will quit b#%@$#ing now......sigh.... too bad it really is far to early here to start drinking!! lol I'm with you mszue. I had hopes of reprising LA, but I'm not feeling lucky. Will keep trying radio contests and checking online but this is going to be a whole different story than GNT. Five people in my world were trying and nothing came up for anyone. I won't tell anyone if you have a drink.
