The tweet earlier, were there really 70 Glamberts meeting for dinner tonight? Anybody know where?
I saw on the news there is also a big concert tonight at Madison Square Gardens benefiting victims of Superstorm Sandy. There was a lot of anst about ticket scalpers jacking up the prices of the tickets. So sadz that peeps would try to make extra money off a worthy benefit.

Good reply, Junie - and you are right about the historical context there. I wondered how Mika was going to try to answer that one. Thanks to Junie for that. My great grandmother even cautioned milk would spoil and bread wouldn't rise. I would also note the modern era has seen an entire feminine hygiene industry built on fanning concerns. I'm so running away from this topic forever now. Chicken!!!! mika, you started it! Actually, way back in the back of my mind, I remembered the bilblical "women are unclean", but thought, surely, mika wouldn't go there. Junie, thanks for the historical context, we women have had a long tough row to hoe for millenia now. I didn't realize that was the context for women being barred from priesthood, I thought that was Paul's fault: Women should remain silent in church. Look at us now, women priests and ministers in many protestant churches, women prominent in bible study and christian writings, we've come a long way baby! Which actually brings us back to homophobia, since it is based on biblical teachings. Why is it that some things, like women being silent in church, and being stoned to death for committing adultery, have gone completely away, they have been rejected and now seem ridiculous or barbaric, but other things are held on to tooth and nail? Who decides what things become acceptable, and when? Nikki and mika both mentioned the social conscience, or societal norms, or collective consciousness (sorry, would have to finish this post to go back and get the exact words used, too lazy for that). Acts and behaviours that once resulted in a death sentence are now parts of accepted societal normalcy. Just a little food for thought.

nikki -- between my new job and yesterday's bizarro thread, my head feels like that too! For once juniemoon doesn't have much to say. LOL. We've talked about Bill Murray before in the MG and I wanted to leave a link to this new interview: www.nytimes.com/2012/12/02/movies/bill-murray-star-of-hyde-park-on-hudson.html?_r=1&A few good excerpts: Q. There’s a kind of joy you seem to bring out of people when they encounter you. Do you notice that?
A. Some are more joyous than others. I’m of the habit that if there are people waiting outside the hotel, you don’t sign those autographs there. Because that means when you come back in the middle of the night, they’re still there. It’s usually a one-time thing. That’s it; that’s your one time. You try your hardest, but you can’t always be perfect. *** Q. You have enemies?
A. Oh, they’re out there. I know I’ve rubbed some people the wrong way. There was an autograph guy two days ago that got into it with me on the street. I said: “One of my habits is I don’t do exactly what you want me to do. I really didn’t get the guideline about your life. I was just trying to live my own right now.” I hope his new movie "Hyde Park on the Hudson" turns out to be good. FDR is one of my heroes and I know quite a bit about the incident portrayed in the movie, so I feel a mix of excitement and dread! :D Not to change the subject of "the dance", and hoping some will weigh in on Kay's question of the impact on Adam's career should he................... I have a bunch of thoughts on this, but not enough time right now to go there, but I will come back to it. In the mean time, junie, I finally got around to reading this interview, thanks for posting it. I am not a huge Bill Murrary fan, although I do like him, and this interview was very interesting. It is surprising that he would be cast to play FDR, hope it's good. Here is my fave quote from the interview: A. It pays off in your life when you’re in an elevator and people are uncomfortable. You can just say, “That’s a beautiful scarf.” It’s just thinking about making someone else feel comfortable. You don’t worry about yourself, because we’re vibrating together. If I can make yours just a little bit groovier, it’ll affect me. It comes back, somehow.very enlightened from a comedian, you have to wonder what his life as been like, what experiences he has had, and how has he learned all of this. Thanks! You always bring something interesting to the garden. Still waiting to hear about your new job?

OK, had to log back in just to chime in with Kay ~
mika, do tell us where this " old, toxic stereotypes - women are unclean......" comes from? It's news to me too! I think I am old enough to know about the other one: "female expressions of sexuality are inherently distasteful, etc". It's way back there with "women should be seen and not heard" OH, wait! That's children..........
Also, Kay, this may be my fault, I don't know how to quote from another thread, so when I copied mika's post, I didn't show that it was in direct response to the new poster with the kid that didn't like Adam's Fever performance. See the link on my original post above, it will take you to that page where mika posted on 12-3-12.

Adam did the Babba Waawaa (Barbara Walters) 10 most facinating people in 2009. BW still does stuff besides entertainment, I saw her covering the election. Also he did a 60 Minutes interview right after Idol. Also, he did a real indepth CNN Talk Asia interview in Asia, don't know who the interviewer was, but it is a great interview, it is in the Interview thread that Cassie started. atop.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=newsperspective&action=display&thread=1221

kay ~ You raise some very important questions, and these will be discussed for years, I think.
I did want to clarify my point: I do think the various views are all valid, as they are all from people's personal perspectives, which are as varied as the avis on this board (I love that analogy, have used it before).
The reason I said mika's post was my favorite comment, was because I thought it was really great the way he boiled it all down by comparing it to "overtly black people". It was extreme, but it made the point that some were also trying to make. I thought it was funny.
I doubt that mika was really trying to throw everyone into a "racist" pot with his comment. He just has a way with words.........
mika will have to speak for himself, but I just loved his comment, but NOT because ^^^^^(racist pot).
I admire you for pursuing this conversation, it is important, and I can tell that you really want to understand the different points of view. And, symantics are important, for the very same reason: people have different connotations that they put on the words they use, and the same word can have different meanings/feelings for different people.
