James Hollomon James Hollomon, I've spent many decades learning from US foreign policy blunders. Answered Dec 9, 2015 I'll just add that the UK is not only geographically isolated from Continental Europe by water as Iceland is from the rest of Scandinavia
But past that, Great Britain is rather unique in being the center of the British Commonwealth of Nations which still regard Queen Elizabeth II as their monarch. The Commonwealth nations include: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei, Cameroon, Canada, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, the Maldives, Malta, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, South Africa, Siri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, the UK, Vanuatu, and Zambia. While the EU including the UK has a total population of , the total British Commonwealth had a combined population of 2.2 billion people. That tends to set Great Britain apart in people's minds from the rest of Europe and the EU.
One person's view point Why do people refer to "the UK and Europe" as two different places? taken from Quora on line

OK, thank you for your explanations bamafan and happy. Yes, I can see some brits still seeing the world that way 😉. For me it’s Europe, as well as all the other countries from Iceland to Cypress and from (Western) Russia to Portugal. That‘s what I learnt in school and that’s how I always felt. I guess, it has something to do with me being a big sports fan. The British teams are big parts in every tournament, nobody would ever get the idea, they aren’t a part of Europe. And for the UK leaving the EU: neither Switzerland nor Norway are part of it either. Nevertheless nobody would say, that they don’t belong to Europe. OK, just some off-topic stupp from a German point of view. I find it interesting to learn about these things.

Got my email. Got my Attitude. Gonna be one expensive magazine! The things I do for Adam! lol My "Attitude-Magazine" also already arrived yesterday but I didn't get to see it so far! My dear husband took it away and hid it from me because it will be one of the (hopefully many, lol!!! ) birthday-presents for me next month! Oh no, I have to wait four more weeks! But at least I asked him to look inside the envelope to see if I got the right cover and ... it was the one with Adam! YAY!!!

Thanks again for all your answers. That’s what I found on Wikipedia: "Europe" as used specifically in British English may also refer to Continental Europe exclusively.“ from: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe Geographically the UK belongs to Europe. It’s an island on that continent. So it is only the Brits. 😉 And Adam adopted it possibly from the Queen-guys. That’s my take on it at least.

As an added personal comment...Brexit has heightened most of the world's sense of differentiation between 'Europe' and the UK/Gr Britain. Of interest also is a sense for some Canadians, at least, that our Commonwealth connections may indeed be more and more important as your president tries to dismantle NAFTA and ignore NATO etc. As the US moves to isolationism and 'me first'ism' so will other countries pursue more stable relationships. I hope..... todays Kinder Morgan anouncement not withstanding...#tears Whom are you referring to with „your president“? (He is certainly and thankfully not mine). And please don’t make it political. It was just a question about a phrasing, that I always find odd. But I see, the „English speaking world“ thinks this way. That’s something I‘ve learnt today! 😁

To me the UK is part of Europe as well just like all the other countries. That there has to be a distinction is very weird to me as well. I guess as living in The Netherlands which is one of the founders of the European Union it just feels different than those who have looser ties to it. The UK also never was part of Schengen which is another subset of the countries in Europe that allows free travel between countries without showing your passport. Switzerland and Norway are part of Schengen, but aren't part of the EU. While the UK is (for now) part of the EU but not part of Schengen. The Netherlands and Germany were also part of the first countries to agree to the Schengen accord. It's confusing sometimes...

For anyone interested in reading about US legislation attempting to reform music copyright and payment for songwriters, this article was published on May 15. It's from the Tennessean in Nashville. You'll see several links to more info.
