And kudos to smokey for carrying the torch in Georgia! My state (PA) is fairly safe for Obama, yet a few in the Romney camp (and FOX) are trying to call it a tossup. Lying liars who lie.

Just want to thank you all for this thread. It is nice to hear what is going on in other places around the country, especially Ohio, my true home. I have thanked the stars to be free of Ohio's campaign bombardment this election but today I wish my vote could help their battle. Congrats to Q3 and all Ohioan for staying sane!

Ther are so many comments on this thread that resonate. I go from unexpected calm to fear. I question how I will fit into to a country if it decides to make such a huge step backward, much less how I will be able to feel a part of a community that will likely vote for Michele Bachmann as their representative. My state probably will vote to ammend its constitution to provent same sex marriage in the future. There is so much to loose today.

This is definately personal. And what amazes me is that the other side can be as impassioned too. How did a country of over 300 million people get split so evenly down the middle? Whatever happens we are assure that a lot of people are going to be raging mad tomorrow.

Thanks for giving me a place among friends to take freely about issues. I have spoken out publically about how I feel about gay rights despite the fact that my mother will be on me about my soul at every opportunity. And my best friends are strong republicans. I excuse them because in this age of media (and biblical mindnumbing) you can find an arguement to support whatever you want. It is so easy to have sheltered opinions. I am thankful to Adam for encouraging me to fight harder for what I believe in, and what is good and just in the world. ...anyway, I babble. Off to vote now. See ya all when it's "over".

The TV Commercials in Ohio have just been toxic. Oddly, they have not helped Romney which was the intent because they are too filled with lies. One is an official Romney ad -- the infamous jeep spot -- but all the others are form PACs.

There are two spots being run by a Jewish Republican PAC that just trashes Obama and is filled with lies -- the unemployment rate is "terrible", 50% of college graduates can't get jobs, foreclosures are way up, Obama disrespected Benjamin Netanyahu and is not a friend of Israel, etc. etc. They are running this in Ohio but the two speakers have heavy NY accents.

Then we have an ad with Obama is friends of Castro and Chavez.

I was in Ohio for 2000, Florida for 2004 -- but never, never saw ads like these before.

The good news is that it is not working.

If Ohio goes for Romney, I will be very surprised. But it is not over yet. Right now Romney is in Cleveland, and Obama is doing interviews on Cleveland local TV.

And even with record early vote -- turnout is high.

The thing about Ohio that worries me is that I think there is sabatage going on. Tagg Romney bought the voting machines thru Bain and the secretary of state Hudsell has put on an illegal patch to the computers that could very well be sabotage.

I would question Romney's win in Ohio, and contest and file a law suit based upon this information. Currently the info re the patches has been passed onto the FBI, but I'm not sure how much FBI is pursuing it.

This evening will tell. If Romney wins I will wage a woman campaign to get the votes reviewed and possibly have Ohio revote!!!!

From my perspective Jews are not typically supporters of candidates who are trying to force social agendas. They have reason to be leary of laws passed based on religious views. The first person to "like" my fb status against our constitutional ammendment prohibiting same sex marriage was a rabbi. I try not to get too worked up but I do think of the slippery slope of a country that seems to have building hate and intolerance and a government that passes law on voluntary civil associations, such as marriage, not to mention women's rights, based on religious beliefs.

1. The software was installed on ES&S machines at election boards in 25 of Ohio's most populous counties. The software is not on voting machines themselves, but on equipment that tabulates vote totals. IF there is an issue, they can count the ballots since these counties use paper ballots.

ETA: I voted early just to be sure that I got to vote with no issue -- as Regan said -- "Trust but Verify". I decided that I have some trust in the Ohio election boards BUT I want to take no chances. But I vote on a paper ballot in a Democratic county. My vote is safe. I am not a fan of the ATM-style voting machines with no receipt that I had to vote on in Florida.

I woke up pretty optimistic about Obama's chances today. I live in a blue corner of a blue state so we have not received any attention from either campaign which I guess is good because we get very few ads and calls. At times however, it makes us feel like we are not important. Dianne Feinstein has hardly run any ads either. The most bitterly contested race in my area of the central coast is a congressional one between our long serving progressive and a wealthy Mexican American who is running a ton of ads on Spanish channels. I used to teach a night class in ESL for farm workers and I always asked them what they thought of the two parties. The response was always that the Republicans were for the rich and the the Democrats were for the poor. I think the Hispanic vote is going to really help Obama again.

Another huge Rachel Maddow fan here.

Hey Folks,

Just got back from voting--longish lines not because of turn out but because a slew of ballot initiatives on the local ballot mean that it takes around 10 minutes to fill one out.

Very odd to experience this election here in Austin, aka "the blueberry in the tomato soup." I've seen a grand total of two presidential campaign adds all year (both for Obama :Clap: ). Our state is deep red but everyone I know/see/meet is voting Obama. A friend of mine wrote a fascinating book about how we find ourselves increasingly bifurcated, sorted into groups/neighborhoods/institutions where everyone votes the same and we're unlikely to ever meet someone who disagrees with us politically. What an odd, double country the US is turning into.

Anyway, mainly just dropping by to add some crossed fingers and limbs into the giant tangle we seem to be building up here ;D. Not to jinx anything, but I'm feeling confident--Nate Silver (who should be charging psychiatrist-fees, honestly) has the latest odds at 90.9% for Obama. I don't know how I'll spend my day when I no longer compulsively refresh 538 twenty-two times a day. (Ha ha who'm I kidding--I'll just up the number of times I compulsively refresh Atop instead. ;D ) Also, I wanted to leave this graphic by way of encouragement:

I, too, am a big fan of Rachel Maddow. She's so smart, and she never just spouts her opinion without showing graphs or video or statistical analysis to back it up. She always gives her guests the opportunity to correct her report if necessary ("Did I get anything wrong?" she asks after she introduces the guest), and she has urged Republicans to appear on her show, but they won't because they know she can pin them to the wall with the facts at her command.

My 85-year-old mother is also a fan of Rachel's, as is her 79-year-old sister and her 77-year-old brother. So much for the stereotype of elderly people being conservative!
