ARGHH, just wrote a long message that mysteriously went poof. Take two:
LOL, gracefuladam. My husband is not an authoritarian by nature but he has instituted one household rule this election season: No. Yelling. At. The. TV!
Who, me? ;D
(I think my righteous anger at inanimate objects was starting to get to him )
There's been all this talk this election about flagging enthusiasm and the "empty hope" of '08. Bill Clinton said at a rally the other day that he might be the only person in America who's even more enthusiastic about Obama this time around than he was last time. But he's got company. I was excited about Obama in '08, for many reasons, but I basically thought he was a center-left pragmatist (I still think that, in fact). Especially given current *ahem* congressional *ahem* obstructionism (is that respectful enough, Q3? , I never hoped he'd get as much done as he has. But looking back at his record, it seems to me that he's accomplished more towards the progressive agenda than any president since LBJ. Near-universal healthcare; groundbreaking, intelligent expansion of student aide; educational reform; financial reform; smart bureaucratic cost-cutting on many fronts who's savings go where they're needed most; progress, in both word and deed, in equality issues regarding women, gays, immigrants; the list goes on. Someone commented recently on a liberal blog I read, "He's our Reagan." I really think there's something to that. I smell a sea-change coming in this country. I had high hopes for the first four years. I have much higher ones for the coming four.
Okay, now I've just worked myself into a nervous tizzy. Maybe I should go make some volunteer-calls to swing states to easy the jitters, but I worry that those poor innocent buggers have been getting so many damn phone-calls of late that they'll just refuse to vote out of protest. Maybe I'll just go stew at 538 instead.
PS--I have a MASSIVE crush on PoliticalAdam!
PPS--I think this kind of post is okay for this thread, but if it's too partisan my sincere apologies and mods should feel free to delete. No offense intended towards anyone, and none would be taken if it were to go poof a second time for less mysterious reasons .
...I have a horrible habit of yelling loudly at the TV in a not very nice way to certain people. :-)
