Daughtry has written all his songs. Phillip's singles are ones he has not written. Carrie, Kelly don't write much. David Cook writes. He wrote his single after the coronation single. So pretty much, only Daughtry has written his hits. Thanks mys*&@^#r50 for responding to this. I hadn't checked the Numbers thread for a while. I have another question. Why is it that lots of women do not write their own songs, but never get criticized for it. But it seems like for Adam, haters keep saying he is not an artist because he doesn't write his own songs. Then even if he co-writes his songs, it still isn't enough, then they will say he doesn't write songs on his own or that his lyrics suck. I just never quite understood why Adam is put to a higher standard than anyone else.

But not all guys write. Adam Levine has not written their 3 bigs hits of the last 2 years. 1D does not write. There are many ladies who do right though, Katy Perry, Adele, KE$HA, Taylor Swift, P!NK, & Gaga, just to name a few big ones. Kelly Clarkson does write. I think she wrote the song that is out now and doing really well. It is off her greatest hits album. Her biggest hits though were not written by her.

That's what I thought I read anyway.

I just never quite understood why Adam is put to a higher standard than anyone else. I think that mostly has to do with him being touted as a "rock star" throughout Idol. Because in Rock it more expected for artists to write their own songs. Unfortunately most forget that sometimes the biggest hits were either co-writes with the hot property of the moment or songs not really in keeping with the rock artists body of work. Two examples right of the top of my head are Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" written by Diane Warren and Kiss' "Beth" which although written by one of the guys was a song they all hated. Most people see Aerosmith as a huge band but that song was their first EVER number one hit on top 40 radio. "Beth" was I think Kiss' biggest hit Oh also Alice Cooper's biggest mainstream hit was "I'll Never Cry" also a sweet sappy ballad like "Beth" but totally uncharacteristic compared to the rest of his catalog. Many of the big rock bands had their biggest Top 40 hits with songs they either hated or were not totally written by them or both. But the rock purest music snobs turn their noses up at a rock artist who doesn't write their own songs. If Adam had not been talked about on Idol as a "rocker" it is possible that he would not have been criticized as harshly. But he still would have gotten the "not a real artist" thing because of his lack of instrument playing knowledge.
