Out of curiosity, how many professional musicians are members here? I know we have a few. Would love to hear a Tommy critique from someone who is a professional guitarist. I think he sounds fine so would love specifics about what his problem is. ETA: pretty sure the guitar wranglers do the guitar tuning, no? Not a professional guitarist. Sorry. I play guitar, but not electric/rock. And, I barely notice the band members onstage. I am only interested in Adam. In fact, I get frustrated when I have to wait thru a guitar solo before Adam starts singing again. But, in Tommy's defense, no, he does not tune his guitar. If you watch closely, there is a guy who brings him different guitars for different numbers. That is because they have to be tuned differently for ease playing some of the keys Adam sings in, or because Tommy wants a different type of sound for a number. This guy is responsible to have the guitars all tuned and ready to go when needed. My little gripe is Brian playing key-tar. It is so much more limited than his standing keyboards. I want Brian to be playing with BOTH FRICKIN' HANDS to add depth to the sound. Not holding the key-tar with one hand while playing three notes with the other. And yes, I am a trained pianist. Haven't done it professionally, but my sister has for over 40 years, and what she can do on the keys is impressive. The key-tar is not. JMO. Thanks, Cassie, that's what I thought. And while I do think that Brian is a great keyboardist, I do find the keytar annoying!

I'm not a "professional" but I've been playing for about 8 years. Maybe not quite as confident as Voldemont with the playing or as creative with the arrangements (though that's not his job) but IMO I felt like Adam used to have to compete with the guitar at times, while he doesn't anymore. Short answer I think he's good and can definitely play any guitar part on Adam's albums Also does a great job on stuff like Is This Love? and Are You Gonna Go My Way

First off Thank you for the amazing recap Q3! Alas I'm totally swamped with work this week and don't have enought time to watch all the vids from Saturday's concert. So I can't say if (in my opinion of course) Adam's band sounded good or not. Just... I wonder... was there a soundcheck? Because I didn't hear about any. And without a soundcheck, after a few months they didn't play together... I really don't blame them for any of problems that could happen (in addition - it seems to me, there were some technical issues as well). I quoted Mys*&@^#r before and I agree with her about the band talk. And I can't see it here on Adamtopia (at least not on today's thread), but I'm sure there are Adam's fans that like Tommy (and probably other members of the band) too. Oh and as regards the playlist (and Adam playing the same music again and again) - I (and I bet other fans here in the CR and probably other countries of Europe) would be thrilled being able to go and hear Adam sing those 'old and the same' songs live at a concert! Alas, this is not going to happen. Do US fans really realize how happy they are?You might have a point. But I live in the US and would have to travel over 1800 miles (2896 kilometers) to get to the concert last weekend and I live on the east coast. We are a very big country. So I watch the videos, and I would enjoy some different songs. ETA: Ooops, I thought you were saying how "lucky" we are. I'm happy too.

Well, all I've got to say is that the only time I ever see bitching about the quality of Adam's band it is coming from hardcore fans. I have yet to ever run across comments from non-fans about the quality of the band.
I'd be willing to bet that if Adam hired a "strong lead guitar player" we'd hear lots of bitching about the guitar player trying to upstage Adam. I remember hearing that quite a lot when MP was playing.

I have been to three of Adam's concerts and one American Idol concert with Adam.. so four in all IMHO Adam needs new band members.. When I watch singers like Bruno Mars ,I am so impressed with his musicians .. they are soo part of the great performances.. They add ,don't detract. To me Adam's band makes Adam work =very hard to compensate for their lack of grit. I have felt like this for forever.. Yes Queen is the best but not the only good musicians out there.. I also would also love some different music from Adam in his concerts.. Whether It's Adam on Glee ,Adam with Avicii or Adam with Queen. the performances soar... The musicians just add technicolor to his great voice.. Time for a Change.. He's too good not to have the best back him. As usual, late to the discussion but I voiced my discontent yesterday about the band and reading your comments, I agree wholeheartedly and I'll disgress Nica575....a band being tight make a hugh difference. SHAME on them - practice - they are paid to perform. When I see a show in NY, I expect top notch instrumentation backing the singers. Even Jersey Boys, how long has it been on Broadway, I expect the best every show even though they must be extremely tired of the same old, same old. The band let Adam down, period. Most of the time, I focus on Adam but there are times when the members have a 'solo' and one takes note, their skills shld add to the number just not be a filler. QUEEN - when Adam sang WWtLF, as he ends his verse, Brain engages his guitar, I am blown away, It sends this song to heaven, and I believe Adam kicks it up a notch if that is possible. Look at his guest performance w/Niles. Niles was the funky master on guitar and he was on fire. This added 100% to SHADY. I know Adam loves his band member but we've seen changes Yellowcard, and Brian (?) having a brain freeze and now Rick, We've seen different pianist, Zac , isa, the blond, the black haired girl, Again Having a brain freeze on names, and now Brian. I would love to see Roger Taylor's son, Rufus, on guitar. How rad would that be. He is a skilled drummer and has young cool vibe which would add to Adam's look. Ashley replaced Tommy. So there has been changes and even a changes w/ the dancers. Q3 I wholeheartedly agree "T" is not strong enough on lead guitar and it really was apparent in Miami. I adore "T" but this is a business and a change is needed. Yes Adam values loyalty but as GLitter stated above, a voice like Adam's deserves a band that plays on his level. OK off that I ADORE his funky hard hitting dance at the beginning of Kick In. gets me everytime.

Adam's band are good musicians. I think it's just that they and Adam haven't had that much time lately to rehearse together, what with Adam busy filming Glee, working on other projects, etc. Not to mention that Tommy and the other musicians have their own side gigs in addition to backing Adam. The more (and more often) singers and musicians play together, the tighter and better their sound. Adam may not need to rehearse that much when performing with Queen, but that's a testament to the fact that he and Dr. Bri and Roger are world class artists. Adam's regular backup band needs more experience under their belts before they can be expected to measure up. During the GNT, the band's sound definitely improved as the tour went on, even allowing for the drummer changeover from Longineu to Isaac. Just playing together on occasional dates, as Brian, Rick, Tommy, and Ashley are doing now, isn't enough to keep them sharp as a unit. Something Adam needs to address, going forward, but I think it can be done without purging the band lineup. Well I see your point, but Adam can't be their babysitter.. Adam has played all over the world with bands that have never heard Adam sing before and they were great.IMHO It's time to try for the best. Mellie, not sure what you are saying here. I don't remember Adam playing with other bands except in that London club a few years ago for some short appearance. Otherwise the performances I can think of would have used an accompaniment track with some musicians playing air instruments. Is that what you are talking about?
