I really hate band talk. Not saying it should stop. I just feel it is Adam's career, his choice. He is a professional. Can't see him hiring anyone he doesn't deem capable just because they are a friend. In the long run, he is a solo artist. They are a back up band. They will come and go as Adam chooses! ETA: wanted to add, I guess for me, Criticizing the band always makes me feel like it implies Adam doesn't know what he's doing.
I don't think it implies that Adam doesn't know what he's doing. I think it's about fund and budget. He cannot do anything about it now because he doesn't have that budget. Maybe if he has bigger budget he will make some improvement and maybe hiring more musician and better ones. So instead of basic 4 band members, maybe he will have 6 or 8..  . I'm hoping that time will come soon.

I think that their is a big different between critiquing a performance and criticizing an individual or friend of Adam's. IMO when people spend thousands of dollars to see a performance, the lead guitarist should tune his guitar. I have been to literally 1000's of rock concerts, from clubs to stadiums, and last Saturday night was the first time I heard a lead guitarist play an out-of-tune guitar in concert. Isn't tuning the guitars the job of the guitar tech? I think that is the person that hands Tommy the correct guitar when a different one is needed for a song. If they had had a proper sound check, this would have been caught. A number of things can affect the tuning after a guitar has been tuned or the relative tuning between different instruments. |

Out of curiosity, how many professional musicians are members here? I know we have a few. Would love to hear a Tommy critique from someone who is a professional guitarist. I think he sounds fine so would love specifics about what his problem is. ETA: pretty sure the guitar wranglers do the guitar tuning, no? I'm not a "professional" but I've been playing for about 8 years. Maybe not quite as confident as Voldemont with the playing or as creative with the arrangements (though that's not his job) but IMO I felt like Adam used to have to compete with the guitar at times, while he doesn't anymore. Short answer I think he's good and can definitely play any guitar part on Adam's albums  Also does a great job on stuff like Is This Love? and Are You Gonna Go My Way Good to hear because my completely untrained eye and ear tells me that Tommy is a 'softer' guitarist. I don't know the technical term for what i am trying to say, but not as "hard" and over powering as Monte was. I like it way better than Monte's playing! ![]() |

Well, all I've got to say is that the only time I ever see bitching about the quality of Adam's band it is coming from hardcore fans. I have yet to ever run across comments from non-fans about the quality of the band. I'd be willing to bet that if Adam hired a "strong lead guitar player" we'd hear lots of bitching about the guitar player trying to upstage Adam. I remember hearing that quite a lot when MP was playing. You wouldn't hear bitching from me..LOL.. I love Adam ,but I also love great guitar playing .Hoping for non-fans to become hardcore fans.. |
