Cassie, Thanks for the easy to understand explanation, and yes now that I think about it, I have been at a concert were I could not hear my own voice.

With all the history Tommy and Adam have together, he was the recipient of the famous AMA kiss for heaven's sake, I imagine letting him go would be extremely difficult and maybe to difficult to be a real option for Adam. IMHO the fans come first...Adam is probably the best friend to ever have.. but what does that have to do with having the support of the best of the best for a band?Apples and oranges..

Adam's band are good musicians. I think it's just that they and Adam haven't had that much time lately to rehearse together, what with Adam busy filming Glee, working on other projects, etc. Not to mention that Tommy and the other musicians have their own side gigs in addition to backing Adam. The more (and more often) singers and musicians play together, the tighter and better their sound. Adam may not need to rehearse that much when performing with Queen, but that's a testament to the fact that he and Dr. Bri and Roger are world class artists. Adam's regular backup band needs more experience under their belts before they can be expected to measure up.
During the GNT, the band's sound definitely improved as the tour went on, even allowing for the drummer changeover from Longineu to Isaac. Just playing together on occasional dates, as Brian, Rick, Tommy, and Ashley are doing now, isn't enough to keep them sharp as a unit. Something Adam needs to address, going forward, but I think it can be done without purging the band lineup.

Do you guys think this recent string of concerts is just about the holidays or do you think Adam may be gearing up for something else. You know, getting out and about, exercising his vocals, rehearsing his band, re-starting the machinery so to speak. I thought the last time the band was together after a string of concerts that they sounded really good together. I remember thinking "finally" they sound confident and well rehearsed. So, my thoughts (not based on any reality) (are they wishes then?)is that perhaps Adam's next album may be less over-produced; maybe he will be using his band to try and capture more of a "live" feel. Maybe there will be a series of once-a-month concerts to bring everyone back up to speed and then, perhaps, into the studio. I'm not ready to give up on this core group (well, maybe Rick) (sorry, Rick). He was definitely playing around with his vocals and it was very different than anything I have heard him do before. He did one part that was a call-and-response with the audience -- like R&B music. I have the same impression you do that he is re-aligning his vocals and his presentation for the next stage. I recommend rewatching "Purple Haze" and look at his attitude, his expressions. Definitely something different starting to go on here.

Well I see your point, but Adam can't be their babysitter..Adam has played all over the world with bands that have never heard Adam sing before and they were great.IMHO It's time to try for the best.

I disagree a bit about the band -- Tommy is not strong enough on lead guitar and there is way too much reliance on the backing tapes. Since Adam likes to play with people he trusts, I would keep Ashley and Brian, put Tommy on rhythm guitar so he is there for the fans, and get a better drummer/percussionist and a stronger lead guitarist. Tommy is much improved but Adam would benefit from a stronger lead guitarist. And would any fan miss Rick Jordan?

The band, on the other hand, was not well rehearsed and could not figure out what the fuck Adam was up to. Brian picked up on Adam's improv a bit at one point but mostly they were like a zombie band. Perhaps, I am spoiled by seeing Adam with Queen -- a tight band and with Brian May on lead guitar.
ETA: And Adam did change up a lot of things for this concert -- seemly on the fly. Music Again and most of the songs with strong backing tapes worked well. The songs where the band was the primary music were not as good. The sound level of the backing tapes were good were I was -- both of the main videographers who have posted so far were recorded directly in front of speakers -- hence the f'ed up sound. This was one of those concerts where being up front was great for being near Adam but was not apparently the place to be for good audio.ITA I think my frustration was I was with a virgin and I so wanted her to hear the clarity of that beautiful voice live. She had cut her teeth on the London videos so everything Q3 said above really factored in for us. She was also rudely shoved by fans fighting to have a place right behind the VIP section. I mean rudely shoved and I thought she might just walk out. Happy ending though is she is trying again at Biloxi!! I sure as hell hope they have some decent rehearsal time and sound tighter. I am in the camp of just sing Adam - acoustic, unaccompanied, riffs, runs, scat, laugh, talk - whatever the hell you want. Just want to hear that voice
