Hi everyone, I’m a long-time lurker who has been a fan of Adam’s since AI. I think Daenerys’s post gave us (or at least me!) something to think about. I noticed a few posters in earlier pages expressing some nervousness about QAL not interfering with A3 as well. I’d love to see Adam with Queen, but I too hope it won’t be too many concerts. Queen is a deadend for Adam: Brain and Roger are more than 30 years older than he is, and how much longer will they be interested in touring? More important, he’ll never achieve his potential w/o his own music. My hope is that Adam dives into working on A3 starting with the New Year. Not much seems to have been going on with his music this fall, and I wonder if that’s because he’s been waiting for a label deal to be finalized. I can see some reasons for waiting, one being financial: he had to pay for the collaborators and studio time to make demos last summer; once signed to a label they’ll pay. I’m pretty sure they’ll be some Queen dates, but maybe not until the summer. Can he get this album mostly done in six months? He made a pretty strong statement that his album (or was it just some music—a single?) would be out in 2014 “or something is seriously wrong.” And Shoshanna and Adam have sent out many more hints about new music in 2014 than they have about Queen. So I’m hoping that’s a sign of where Adam’s priorities lie. bscfan !!

Note: Bold and black comments are Daenerys. I inserted my comments in blue. Q3.Adam and Queen toured in june/july 2012. His album dropped on May 2012. What artist that drops his own album runs and perform with another band singing cover songs. Does that sound like someone who is out to promote his own current career if he though he had one.
Q3: QAL Sonisphere was announced in February 2012 -- tickets went on sale Feb 23, 2012 www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17100301 If there was a Trespassing Tour, they probably would have wrapped some UK, Russian and European dates around the QAL concerts. ======> Possible, but not likely. This was decided prior to even the album release or the NCOE add on. Adam was very optimistic about TSP at the time. Thank goodness we all did not know any different about RCA. No manager who is serious about taking his still developing artist to a superstar level would hook him up with an irrelevant band. They might be legends but they aren't putting current music out which makes them irrelevant to the fans that Adam wants which is 18-49. If TSP was a priority no way the label would have OK a Queen tour. Just ask Kelly Clarkson. You don't cut into the label promo time unless they don't give a crap.
Q3: Adam's label at the time (Sony/RCA) had no say in Adam's preforming schedule. It was Adam's decision. RCA only had the license to release his recorded music.
The average concert attendee in the US is 47 years old, and that is where the money is. The average recorded music buyer is 52 years old (rock music much older, country music is younger). 18-35 and 18-49 is what CHR and HAC radio care about because it is the advertiser's target market.
Kelly Clarkson is really not a model for Adam -- her audience is almost the opposite of Adam's (looking at demos). There is nothing in common with these two artists except that they both can sing and they were both on Idol.
Adam did an extensive promotional effort for Trespassing including two US Radio promo rounds. QAL 2012 took about 2 weeks after the album was released and did not interfere with the Trespassing promotion.
=======> Really? Kiss-fm covered iHeart and had interview with Adam, because of this 40 yr old band. Go figure. He got great attention because of this. And Queen would not have had an iHeart stop without Adam either. There is a reason they got invited. Somebody in the US seems to like that 40 yr old band. And Adam. If you think Queen got invited because of Adam, I got one word for you FUN. They could have filled that night with many guest stars and it would still be Queen. Which proves my point without Queen there would have been a snowball chance in hell Adam would have been invited with an Album that tanked.
Q3: Queen did iHR because of QAL -- source: Brian and Rodger iHeart Radio interview -- and also reported in other news sources. Here is the RS report:
Another collaboration with someone who could sing the music would probably have resulted in an invite too, I imagine -- but that is just a guess.
Adding the two songs with FUN. was something that happened after the deal with Queen at iHR was made. They were planning to perform with FUN at the Grammys in January but had to postpone it because of Brian's knee. When they both ended up on the iHR bill, the collaboration was done at FUN.'s request. It was a nice moment live, but artistically a bit of a miss.
======> Really? Can't this be a case for Queen fans + Adam fans + Glee fans, + classic rock fans = Full arena calculation on part of a possible promoter. Why is this an either / or situation? NO. Not all Classic rock fans are Queen fans. Queen weren't even huge here in the US. Also the idea that Queen can fill MSG is delusional. Glee fans are not going to be buying Queen tickets. I'm positive about that.
Q3: I think there is NO CHANCE Queen will do an extensive tour anywhere, and certainly not in the US.
>> I do not know if Queen can still sell out MSG but in 2005 Q+PR sold out Continental Airlines Arena, East Rutherford United States.
Queen was big in the US with 6 successful arena tours in 1976 (some arenas), 1977, 1978, 1980, 1982. They stopped touring in 1986 and did not tour the US again until the 2005-2006 Q+PR effort. The 1977 two NY Madison Square Garden and two Philadelphia Spectrum dates sold out in minutes in the pre-digital era -- when you had to buy physical tickets.
5 consecutive 80%+ sold out arena tours in 7 years in the US -- seems pretty huge to me.
The US tour leg of the World Tour 2005-6 (with Paul Rodgers) was booked into arenas with 25 dates in North America, and over 80% sold -- there were very low attendence dates in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA which was mostly a promoter issue.
No Queen is not as popular in the US as they are in most of the rest of the world, but they have grossed more from concert tickets and sales of recorded music tracks and albums in the US than any other country. So I have no doubt they will do something here. And, if they want to promote a mini tour, then they can probably sell out MSG.

I like your album tracklist. I will have to try it! I have LWOG on my Adam Lambert Dance (you should be on the treadmill) album. I also have an Adam Sings the Greatest Hits album that now includes Marry The Night. Which of these playlists does What's Love Got To Do With It? fall under though?! I'll post it again cause I've never seen another Glambert mention it but Adam's vocal is gorgeous I am not a Glambert -- just an Adam fan -- but I have that on my dance track album. I have many different Adam albums. *** I love WLGTDWI. *** The tracks that I find do not fit anywhere are the Lambert-Pittman tracks. I have them (all illegally since I will not pay the bastards) but rarely play them. I really just want the vocal tracks from those Paramount sessions -- no crap production, no band, just Adam.

Well, I don't want to argue about Tommy's qualities as a guitarist. And I agree with you - Monte solo sounds good. BUT - as you wrote in the second paragraph - Adam is much better singer now than 4 or 5 years back. (He was fabulous then back too, though!) Anyway, Monte was older and had much more experiences than Tommy when he started to play with Adam. So, I would say, give Tommy about 5 or more years and we will see. (Just want things to be fair for them both. )
I don't know. I think either you have it or you don't. The different between the two is, one of them play it as he practiced it back stage, the other one's improvised (spontaneous). A lot of singers sing the song just like what their album sounds. With Adam, we cannot expect him to sing the way his album sounds. He can change or improvise a song in 5-10 different ways on the spot without practice. Just like when he did that 7 minutes WLL in Fantasy Spring. The ability to do what Adam does is either you have it or you don't.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ljb_JsvUEc I agree with you 100% about Adam! He is outstanding, immensely talented he just 'has it'. And I love his ability of improvisation and that he doesn't perform the songs the same way he sings it on stage. I can see and enjoy every of his concert on YouTube because it's always unique and different - at least for me . As regards Adam's guitarists - well, Monte may have it too and I don't deny he is a good guitarist. Alas, he never did it for me - maybe it was because I started to watch Adam's performances after he left and his betrayal of Adam affected me and had an impact on my jungment. I just didn't like Monte. Never. On the other hand - I quite like Tommy and though he may not be the best guitarist in the world, he is quite okay for me.

I think DMG and Edge have done a good job but not prepared to say great yet. So far removing Adam from all things Idol is the first step. I think DMG not being on board from the very beginning of TPS and 19R still in mix I'm giving them the benefit of doubt that their hands were still somewhat tied. 19R has a lot of say when it comes to Idols albums. I heart and Glee were good opportunities but I follow enough popstars and their promos to know what many more opportunities are out there. DMG is still missing the boat with some things. 2014 should be interesting because we will see how great DMG really is. If they can convince Adam to get a new band than I will say they mean serious business. What do you think Adam/DMG should be doing? What good opportunities did they miss? What pop artist who does not have any new music and whose last (and only) US Top 10 hit was released 4 years ago has more going on? Most of the Idol alumni with similar or even better sales are on the "where are they now list"? Granted, most of what Adam has going on is because of his extreme talent and his likability and his openness to doing different things. Glee, for example, could have been just another guest star who was on for a bit and forgotten. It actually generated a lot of buzz, he prove he can act, and he proved he can be a musical comedy star. For a hiatus year, 2013 was very packed for Adam. And he is better known now than he was in mid-2011 when DMG took over his management. And more importantly, he has more credibility in the music business and an excellent platform for his next album. I was very critical of RCA after the leadership change -- specifically their A&R strategy and their promo strategy which made no sense to me. I think RCA (circa 2011-2012) blew it because they tried to turn Adam into an Adult Contemporary artist (BTIKM and NCOE) and never understood him or his fans. They envisioned recapturing all his Idol fans who loved Mad World. ** Finally, I expect Adam will strengthen/change his band for the next tour. But one thing I am absolutely sure of -- Adam will change his band when he wants to and no one will convince him to do it any sooner than that. And we know that when necessary, he is capable of making hard choices about his band. Adam is ambitious and has the fire in his belly to be successful. Does he want superstardom. No one knows. He could be happy just the way things are. He's been performing on stage and somewhat in the entertaining business since he was 10. I think it's in his blood. He may never get to supersatdom but I don't think he'll be like the other Idols on the "Where are they now? list neither. I find those other Idols somewhat less ambitious and lazy but maybe they are happy where they are in their careers. Who knows. In all fairness to DMG and Edge there is only so much they can do with regards to opportunities for Adam when you have an era that tank. They kept him on the radar enough for him to not totally disappear. When era 3 rolls around we will see what they are really capable of. I'm looking for more from Shoshanna when it comes to Adam getting exposure other than some obscure internet blogs. His exposure outside the internet is non existing. Finally, I expect Adam will strengthen/change his band for the next tour. But one thing I am absolutely sure of -- Adam will change his band when he wants to and no one will convince him to do it any sooner than that. And we know that when necessary, he is capable of making hard choices about his band.
Adam is going to do whatever he wants with his band. If he thinks they are the greatest band ever there's nothing we can do but his band sucks. John Mayer and Gaga just fired their managers and people around them. I think John's album went gold. Adam should be so lucky to have half their success but according to them their current era wasn't good enough. That is what pop stars do when they think things aren't going the way they think it should. It's all business. I think part of managements job is to make sure their artists have the best around them ex: hired help bandmates. I understand that budget plays a big role but I'm hoping with a new label if they see half the potential Adam fans see the budget will be there for the best. You have to put out money to make money.

I OFTEN wonder what Adam thinks about career trajectory thing, savvy92. And, I agree, he rightly plays those cards very close to his chest - but wouldn't it be interesting to know? I know most everyone thinks BTIKM was not a good single selection, and I suppose the proof is in the pudding, but I really loved the mv, and bought the dynamic Adam portrayed in it. He is mostly "cozy sweater" Adam in his interviews, but I bet booze- swigging, sneering, "bad" Adam had a few things to say about/a few choice gestures for, the end of the RCA relationship. Right now, I love Adam being on "Glee." It's more eyeballs on him, more ears hearing him. I hope he has new songs, his own songs, soon, though, and that they could be featured on SOMETHING - DWTS, SYTYCD, a commercial, and/or a big movie. And I would love if the animation voice-over rumor panned out. Katy Perry can check all those things and more off her list, but she has been dealt some very lucky cards. Despite Adam being, IMO, more talented and just as good- looking, funny, smart, and personable, who knows if he'll ever play at the highest high-rollers' table? I would like an interviewer to ask Adam more about his ambition - if he wants to be as famous as he possibly can be (because that definitely has drawbacks) or how he would define success for himself. I think it's clear that radio acceptance is important to him. I agree the MV for BTIKM is pretty good and IMO better than the song. But it is not a great track. That is why it took years for someone to buy it and record it. Neither BTIKM or NCOE were written for Adam or suitable for his voice and style. Naked Love was not written for Adam but fits him well. WWFM is a perfect song for him. Adam has been asked this and usually says he wants a long career, or want to do this for many years. I think Adam has had a much harder time than other artists, in part, because he does not fit into any easy marketing category. If he wanted to fame more than anything, he could have been a mid-tempo ballad king for a year or two and been bigger. It just seems like that would bore him (and there would be no ATop if he did that because it would certainly bore me.) All I know is, he seems really happy to me. So good things must be in the works.
