Thanks Cassie.. What you had to say is so interesting.. My mom studied opera for years and was the DIVA in a local opera group. I never found opera or all the scales she practiced constantly anything but mind numbing.. Of course I was 11-16 at the time.. Your explanations make me appreciate Adam , my mom and all the dedicated hard working singers. "Mind numbing." Yup, scales are mind numbing to listen to. Folks were talking about the Olympic figure skating competitions. The performances of the long and short numbers are beautiful to me. Do they still actually have to do the "figure" skating? The tracing repeated figure eights or whatever it is? Have you ever watched a skater do that? Like watching paint dry. Mind numbing to be sure. But it teaches technique, control, discipline and precision. The purpose of singing scales is to practice technique, vocal production, control, tone, consistency, transitions between registers, precise pitch, breathing etc. Like tracing figures on ice, shooting 100 free throws daily, or hitting buckets of golf balls at the driving range. Drill and practice. Drill and practice. Until you can do it without thought, in your sleep, while dancing, interacting with an audience, and swinging from a chandelier. Crucial, but very boring for the listener. Especially a teenaged listener. Thank you Cassie I always enjoy your post when you are explaining principles of music training. And especially when you are explaining why Adam sounds so perfect and beautiful

Perfectly said momtomany ......and Q3 .......wonderful end to the day! Well I have absolutely nothing to add to this thread except to say that I had to work today and tonight and it was a nice break to come here and read just an interesting discussion thread. Thanks to all who participated. And a special thanks to Momtomany for the post above me that says everything I was thinking but with a bit more poetry that I can put together.

Whatever else can be said about today's thread, at least a lot of new and seldom seen folks joined in on both sides of the issue. That's a good thing.

and welcome jomama2 ! I love this forum and I am very thankful for the people who are posting pics and vids We can disagree but in the same time we respect each other. And the best of all we have a mutual target of admiration. Adam and his fandom have opened a new wonderful sector of life for me. I'm convinced that I get extra years for my life with Adam and his fans I would like to second that! I'm so happy Adamtopia exists!
