Queen + Adam Lambert received glowing reviews for their performance together at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas last September, triggering a conversation between Adam, Roger and Brian to take the show on the road. Rolling Stone said, “Lambert astounded the audience on songs like ‘We Will Rock You’ and the closing ‘We Are The Champions’ and ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’. It was the most anticipated act of the night.” Billboard claimed, “…Queen effectively stole the show, with timeless songs that music fans of all genres can sing along to” and the Hollywood Reporter exclaimed, “Adam Lambert, Queen bring down the iHeart house. With the perfect mix of rock attitude mixed with style, theatricality, sex appeal and impressive vocal gymnastics, [Lambert] took the band’s music to new heights.”
The threesome first shared the stage during American Idol in May 2009 for a performance of “We Are The Champions”. They teamed up again in 2011 at the MTV European Music Awards in Belfast, Ireland for an electrifying eight-minute finale of “The Show Must Go On”, “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions” and in the summer of 2012, Lambert performed a series of shows with Queen across Europe as well as dates in Russia, Ukraine and Poland. They also performed three sold-out gigs at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
"Let's ROCK those beautiful arenas JUST ONE MORE TIME!” said Brian May. “I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon,” added Lambert. “The thought of sharing the stage for a full set in North America is so beautifully surreal. I'm honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory; he's a personal hero of mine, and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know this tour will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I feel like magic will be on display.”
In a career spanning over 40 years Queen has amassed a staggering list of sales, awards, and hall of fame inductions that is second to none. Record sales in the hundreds of millions of units, including an unprecedented string of number one albums and top-charting singles that continue to put Queen in the top ten of all-time iTunes sales, seven Ivor Novello Awards, an MTV Global Icon Award, two songs enshrined in the Grammy Hall of Fame - “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” – which also remain the most played songs at sports events and arenas around the world, and, as if to qualify all of hyperbole, just last month Queen received the accolade of becoming the first artist ever to sell over six million copies of an album in the UK - beating out even the Beatles' Sgt Pepper by close to a million copies - with their Greatest Hits album, which also achieved the record of over 1,422 weeks on the British album chart. The statistics show a staggering one in three British households now own a copy of the iconic act’s original Greatest Hits collection. Even with the tragic loss of their uniquely talented singer Freddie Mercury, Queen remain one of the most revered bands in rock and pop history, able to claim one of the most enduring song catalogues of all time. Just think: “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “Radio Ga Ga”, “Killer Queen”, “Fat Bottomed Girls”, “Bicycle Race”, songs that form the backdrop to the lives of generations of fans across all ages. With their sterling song craft, virtuoso musicality, and colossal spectacle of their live performances, Queen – Brian May, Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon - captured hearts and conquered charts like no other band in history, a legacy that continues to live through the ongoing work and concert performances by May and Taylor. Their musical We Will Rock You, co-created with writer Ben Elton, is approaching its 12th year on stage in London’s West End and is currently touring North America.
Adam Lambert’s stunning performances on the eighth season of American Idol are still widely regarded as some of the most riveting moments in the show’s history. His debut album For Your Entertainment earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. His second album, Trespassing, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. The subsequent tour took Lambert from Australia to South Africa, throughout Asia and Eastern Europe and culminated in a sold-out arena show in Helsinki, Finland. In 2013, Lambert appeared as a guest star on the hit TV series, GLEE. He is currently writing and recording for his third album, which will be released this year.

The tour, as you all know by now was first announced on ‘Good Morning America‘ a few weeks ago though we all had a general idea that it was coming. It was either that or Adam’s new album.

86 days to go…to QAL!!
3.25.14 by Q3
There are 86 days until Chicago…and they question I have been thinking about is what will Adam sing on this tour?
Assuming they change out a few songs during the tour, and do 22 – 24 unique songs a night (excluding the guitar and drum solos), there could be around 30 songs performed in these concerts. And hopefully, I get a lot of them in my countdown. But that won’t be easy -- the Queen catalog is so big, the potential cover list is almost a universe, and there is a chance that they could also decide to perform an Adam song.
#86: Stone Cold Crazy
Written by: Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, John Deacon Recorded: July - September 1974 Released: November 8, 1974
This song is high on my “I want to hear what Adam can do with this!” list.
It is also one of the many usually unrecognized composition innovations created by Queen. "Stone Cold Crazy" is known for its fast tempos and heavy distortion, thus being a precursor to speed metal. Music magazine Q described "Stone Cold Crazy" as "thrash metal before the term was invented".
So in 1970, Queen was playing a precursor to speed metal a genre that “originated” in the late 1970s with New Wave of British Heavy Metal (AKA New Wave) and hardcore punk. So in 1970, over a decade before are Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax pioneered thrash metal, Queen was there.
I believe “Stone Cold Crazy” could be the most performed Queen song that was never a Queen single because Queen played it a lot and so many bands cover it.
“Stone Cold Crazy” is one of the Queen songs that goes back to before the beginning of Queen. In the late 1960’s, before Queen was created, Freddie Mercury played a version of it with his band Wreckage. (There is no recording of “Stone Cold Crazy” from Wreckage and the origin is disputed by some Queen experts, but it was part of Queen-lore in 1974, so I believe it truly goes back to Freddie’s first band.)
“Stone Cold Crazy” was performed at what is considered by Queen experts to be the very first Queen concert, although they were billed as 'Smile'. This was about a year before John Deacon joined the band. And the bass was played by Mike Grose. In the early days of Queen, bass guitarists were a bit like Spinal Tap drummers (if you do not get this, please watch the movie Spinal Tap. It is a movie and music essential.)
Poetry: This was the first song that Queen performed in their first live performance. It was the only song they played in their first concert. It should be part of what may be their last tour.
“Stone Cold Crazy” was played live at almost every Queen concert between 1974 and 1978 and played occasional after that. “Stone Cold Crazy” underwent many changes musically and lyrically before getting recorded in 1974, resulting in the songwriting credit going to the entire band. Early versions of the song were much slower, according to the band, although no bootlegs exist. The song is the eighth track on Sheer Heart Attack. Although the song was never released as a single "Stone Cold Crazy" also features on the band's 1992 compilation album, Classic Queen.
In 2009, it was named the 38th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.
Stone Cold Crazy with lyrics
This is the album version released in 1974.
Sleeping very soundly on a Saturday morning
I was dreaming I was Al Capone
There's a rumour going round
Gotta clear outa town
I'm smelling like a dry fish bone
Here come the law gonna break down the door
Gonna carry me away once more
Never never I never want it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy stone cold crazy you know
Rainy afternoon I gotta blow a typhoon
And I'm playing on my slide trombone
Anymore anymore cannot take it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy stone cold crazy you know
Walking down the street
Shooting people that I meet
With my rubber tommy water gun
Here come the deputy
He's gonna come and getta me
Gotta get me get up and run
They got the sirens loose
I ran right outa juice
They're gonna put me in a cell
If I can't go to heaven
Will they let me go to hell?
Crazy stone cold crazy you know
Stone Cold Crazy - Live 1974
Queen history – Before there was Queen there was Wreckage
Ibex was a short-lived Liverpool-based rock band in 1969. It is primarily known for having Freddie Mercury (then known as Freddie Bulsara), later of Queen fame, as a member. The other members of the band were Mike Bersin on guitar, Mick Smith on drums and John 'Tupp' Taylor (later Jim Capaldi's manager) on bass. In October 1969, the band changed its name to Wreckage but broke up in November 1969.
On September 9, 1969, the band performed a concert at The Sink in Liverpool, which included an encore with future Queen members Roger Taylor and Brian May. This was their first ever performance together.
After Ibex, Mercury performed in Sour Milk Sea, before joining Smile with Taylor and May after bassist and singer Tim Staffell left Smile.
A Wreckage demo called "Green" and Ibex's live cover of The Beatles' "Rain" would later appear on Mercury's posthumous solo box set in 2000. Live recordings exist of "Crossroads", "Communication Breakdown", "Jailhouse Rock", and "We're Going Wrong", but they have never been officially released.
“Stone Cold Crazy” covers
Metallica covered the song and their version is more aggressive than the original; they also slightly altered the lyrics, adding two uses of the word "fuck" and changing the more humorous lines for more violent lyrics, such as "walking down the street/shooting people that I meet/with my fully loaded tommy gun". Metallica also played the song as an encore during their 1991–93 Black Album tour; it appears on the live CD Live Shit: Binge & Purge and the 2009 live DVD Français Pour Une Nuit.
James Hetfield once performed it together with Queen & Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath fame (singing Metallica's altered lyrics) at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. Extreme also included part of the song during their medley at the same Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. The band Eleven has also recorded a cover, lending the spot of lead vocals to friend and Queens of the Stone Age front man Josh Homme (Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen).
Hellyeah played Metallica's version of "Stone Cold Crazy" on the 2007 Family Values Tour, sometimes referring to it under the title "Stone Cold Wasted".
Punk band Sum 41 began covering a version of this song in their live shows in 2010.
The song is featured in the music video games Guitar Hero: Metallica and Rock Revolution, as well as downloadable content for Rock Band 3 and Rocksmith.
Fun Trivia: Metallica had performed “Stone Cold Crazy” over 150 times in concert.
Odd Twist of Fate: Queen has never won a Grammy but Metallica covered the song as their contribution to the 1990 compilation album Rubáiyát – Elektra's 40th Anniversary. In 1991 Metallica’s cover version won a Grammy Award Best Metal Performance.

Adam Connection: “Stone Cold Crazy” is the B-side of Mettalica “Enter Sandman” single.

This was Adam's "And I kind of know the words. Sort of. So it's like karaoke. I've got them written down. Right here. Don't judge me." preformance. Not bad for not knowing the lyrics.

2. You must be respectful of other members. Feel free to express your opinion, but be glitterier and golden.
3. Strive to be funny, entertaining or informative when you post. Avoid posting something that has already been posted.
4. Never question anyone's right to post, the appropriateness of a topic or define the proper way for an Adam fan or Adamtopia Member to behave.
Let the moderators do their job.
More rules will be added if the need arises but, if everyone follows these rules, we will not need a lot of rules.
