TALON'S TAKE:
Tear It UpWritten by: Brian May
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead vocals
Brian May - guitars, backing vocals
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - drums, tambourine, backing vocals
- A real short and to the point rocker.
- Played live in 1984 and 1986 and resurrected by Brian during his 1998 solo tour when Brian did a "walk down memory lane" medley. It was played one more time as a snippet segued from and back into
We Will Rock You when Brian & Roger appeared with the
We Will Rock You Cast on Al Murray's TV show in the UK.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE
LIVE AT WEMBLEY- Both open with clips from
Liar all the way back from the first album!
HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY 1986- Audio only
UNOFFICIAL LIVE
BRIAN MAY - LIVE IN AUSTRALIA 1998- Obviously featuring a BUNCH of songs in there including some we haven't gotten to yet
But Tear It Up is in the medley!
PERSONAL NOTES:
- To me this is an okay song. I'm REALLY glad to hear the band go back to a rock sound BUT it is kind of derivative of past works...and is nothing special. BUT it is a good quick jab in concert and the lyrics are funny but it's nothing I reach to put on.
CHANCES:
Tear It Up......10% -- It's one of those songs Brian brings up out of nowhere now and again. It's not really a mainstay and if it does appear I'm sure it would be a quick hit as a part of a medley but it wouldn't be totally surprising either.
SUPPLEMENTAL:
Let Me LiveWritten by: Freddie Mercury/Brian May/Roger Taylor/John Deacon
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead vocals, piano
Brian May - lead vocals (3rd verse), guitars, backing vocals, organ (?)
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - lead vocals (2nd verse and bridge), drums, percussion, backing vocals
Rebecca Leigh-White - backing vocals
Gary Martin - backing vocals
Catherine Porter - backing vocals
Miriam Stockley - backing vocals
(SECOND VID added for geoblocking purposes)- A gospel song featuring extra backing vocalists. Freddie sings the first verse and choruses. Roger takes the second verse and bridge while Brian sings the third verse and they all trade lines at the end.
- Issued as a single and hit #9 in the UK
- Initially began life as a demo with Rod Stewart during
The Works sessions (Some rumors say as far back as
A Day At The Races but that seems faulty).
- There was a version released on a promo of the album which is now called the "banned version". There were even more backing vocals and extra lyrics that reportedly came too close to Janis Joplin's Piece Of My Heart so they were changed.
ALTERNATIVES
ROD STEWART DEMO SNIPPET- A snippet only from the
Great Pretender documentary
BANNED VERSION-
ESSENTIAL- My favorite version with even more harmonies!
- This was changed due to the fact that some of the extra vocals were deemed too close to Janis Joplin's Take Another Little Piece Of My Heart.
PERSONAL NOTES: AWESOME TRACK! Fun piece to singalong to and by now you probably know that I love it when they trade off on vocals. I would like to see this tried live at some point.
CHANCES:
Let Me Live......0% -- HIGHLY unfortunate but I don't think we'll ever see anything from Made In Heaven played due to the emotional aspect of what Brian and Roger did by finishing off Freddie's vocals. You might see Too Much Love Will Kill You or Heaven For Everyone but only because they first premiered as B & R solo tracks respectively. BUT what a song this would be live! I can imagine Adam singing the first verse and the choruses and Roger and Brian singing their parts. Could be really fun.
