LABYRINTH!!!! You all, I think Q3 is punking us! It is the only explanation that makes sense to me!! Well, if she hadn't brought up this subject today, the thread would be on page 2. She's really good at keeping us entertained on slow days. Thanks, Q3. I do think if Adam wanted to do the part, he could ace it. But I would guess if he had his choice of plays he'd rather do the lead in Grease. In the meantime, WITWIAL?

LABYRINTH!!!! You all, I think Q3 is punking us! It is the only explanation that makes sense to me!! No, I really am not. I am in earnest. I adore "Peter Pan" and have since I was quite young. I know ever song by heart. I never liked nor understood why Peter Pan was played by a woman when I saw the play. >> I will note that I have not posted that playing Peter Pan is a great career move for Adam, just the NBC should get Adam to play Peter Pan. Two different things. >> I did not suggest Adam for this part because he is gay. I really did not put 2 and 2 together until now. Although I guess that may explain why Peter needed to be played by a woman and answer a childhood question for me!! *** The Peter Pan play was first performed in 1904 but it evolved over time. The script of the play, which Barrie had continued to revise since its first performance, was published in 1928. The Disney version (no surprise) is a lame version of the play and not true to the story. And the original stage version has almost vanished being replaced by the Broadway musical version. That said, and since they have decided to stop the tradition of having Peter played by a woman, perhaps they can go back to Barrie's inspiration for Peter. Michael Llewelyn Davies, Barries ward and the inspiration for Peter Pan, was drowned (possibly murdered or a planned suicide) when he was 20 in 1921. He was the model for Peter portrayed at various ages for Barrie's different versions. The story of Michael Davies is really odd.... The Oxford Magazine reported, "Two House men whose loss would have been more widely and more deeply mourned, it would be impossible to find. They were intimate friends, and in their death they were not divided. It is we who must learn to live without them." From Wiki: Their bodies were recovered "clasped" together the next day. The coroner's conclusion was Davies had drowned accidentally, and Buxton had drowned trying to save him. Some later accounts report that their hands were tied to each other's, though surviving contemporary accounts do not report this. Davies' brothers Peter and Nico each later acknowledged suicide as a likely explanation, as did Barrie. ETA: By the way, Peter Pan is an Victorian play/story most likely about homosexuality. It is one of many Victorian works on the subject that we do not notice. news.rutgers.edu/news/rutgers-researcher-links-homosexual-stereotypes-victorian-era-sexology-dorian-gray-and-peter-pan/20130730#.U2hto1diMc8Of course Barrie really made it so obvious, I am not sure you need an academic paper to see it. For example, "fairy" was a 19th century slang term for homosexuals and Peter is accompanied by a fairy.

Q3, you may have convinced me about Adam playing Peter. It has always bugged me that women filled that role. They never were believeable to me either physically, movement wise, or vocally. I would love to see and hear a high tenor GUY in the role. Adam also can look very mischievous and impish, and act very playful and daring. I am still trying to wrap my head around seeing a tall MAN taking all these kids to live with him. But, I am open to what they might do with it.
Of course, Adam has played Peter before and has more than a passing familiarity with the lines and songs. He also has flown in the productions he was in. He has the acting AND singing chops, and the live stage experience. Of course, the suits will cast a NAME without regard to acting or singing ability. But, it would be a bold and interesting casting choice.

Cassie, I am not sure who they will cast as Peter, but they have already said publicly that they will hire someone who can act and who can sign. And they have said no to a number of big names. If they repeat another untested person like Carrie in TSOM they will not be able to keep getting people to watch these. And many of the obvious choices, like Chris Colfer, are people who have very little experience with live performances. And live is different. And live with 20+ million people in the audience is really different. The more I look at it, the better Adam looks. >> BTW I do not think he will be asked, but they should consider him!! Of course Barrie really made it so obvious, I am not sure you need an academic paper to see it. For example, "fairy" was a 19th century slang term for homosexuals and Peter is accompanied by a fairy. :20 - :40 Oh! Thank you for posting this. I thought of it but was too tired to find it!!
