Vocal range does not equal voice quality. The only reason I can think that it is so highly touted is that it can be objectively measured. Well, sort of. The absolute pitch can be determined. But is it a sustainable note with some strength, consistency, and control? Can it be sung with words? Can it be sung at different dynamics, or must it always be belted, shouted, or fried? Is it usable? Is it pleasant?
Even if you ignore all that, many people make errors in determining the absolute pitch. Or they give credit for grunts, groans, spoken words, and whistles. It is necessary for a great singer to have an extensive range to be able to sing a wide variety of songs well. No one NEEDS to have a 4 or 5 octave range, even if it is possible. Two solid octaves, with richness, control, dynamic range, sustain, vibrato, and tone coupled with great breath support and an artistic ability to interpret songs will suffice for any professional singer. (Of course, many popular singers today don't have that, much less the range they are reputed to have.)
The other day I was listening to the examples of Steven Tyler posted. Then, a little while later I was listening to Adam. Adam's sound is so much richer, more resonant, more present. At any point in his range. His voice is truly exceptional in many ways. And, yes, My name is cassie and I am a Glambert.

Since "Home" is now the #50th selling song ever, I agree. And it is still selling. I know it's small of me to say this, but there's something about that that makes me feel a little sad and sick. And jealous. I still don't like PP's vocal style (strangled and off key). It is what it is -- a fluke that a song resonated with many people -- he did not write it, he did not want to record it, he just got lucky, It happens. There rarities are the singers who do this over, and over, and over. To me that is a sign of some level of talent and discrimination. Kelly Clarkson has done this for 12 years. The first couple may have been a fluke, but her biggest selling song is "Stronger'. And that is why she remains the most popular Idol singer overall.

THIS! 'Gelly @14gelly 1h What I know is that EVERY site is mentioning Adam's name not only inside the article , but at their tweet too. I am fine with that ' AVICII'S "LAY ME DOWN" VIDEO IS MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT (HINT: ADAM LAMBERT) — VIDEO Funny thing is... Adam could very well be in that video after all, somewhere among all these dancing heads... We know he was at one of these concerts in Stockholm

Today is the second anniversary of Adam becoming the first openly gay male artist to top the charts, with Trespassing, which I think is the biggest highlight of his career... And I'm especially glad that he announced his rehearsals with Queen on this day, since there are people who think he is trespassing there as well. But he does it anyways, and he does it oh so very beautifully:)
Londoners, I expect some A level stalking from you! Spruce up your stalking skillz please:)

THIS! 'Gelly @14gelly 1h What I know is that EVERY site is mentioning Adam's name not only inside the article , but at their tweet too. I am fine with that ' 'Gelly @14gelly 48m Very good article www.bustle.com/articles/25580-aviciis-lay-me-down-video-is-missing-something-important-hint-adam-lambert-video …' AVICII'S "LAY ME DOWN" VIDEO IS MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT (HINT: ADAM LAMBERT) — VIDEO When Adam Lambert first premiered “Lay Me Down”, the song he did with DJ Avicii, it was basically the club hit we all didn’t know we’d been waiting for. The fact that it’s the fifth of the singles released from Avicii’s True doesn’t do the song enough justice, unless Avicii was saving the best for last. Lambert provides all of the vocals for the song which, when combined with Avicii’s music, makes for an incredibly addicting track. For some reason, however, the music video for “Lay Me Down” was less of a music video than a concert video. The video follows Avicii as he heads onstage to perform the song for an adoring crowd of concert goers as a show identified as “Live at Tele2 Arena”. The show is so good that the concert ends on a shot of one of the fans crying. Not that I blame her, considering they paired the song with smoke machines and bursts of flames. It’s as if the eargasm everyone was having was somehow an underreaction. Why Avicii chose to film a concert instead of pairing the single with an outright video (like one that actually features Adam Lambert) isn’t immediately clear. Maybe by the fifth single on an album, you start running out of steam as far as elaborate videos go. However, pairing “Lay Me Down” with a live concert does force the viewer to focus on the song and their reaction to it more than they would have if they’d had to follow the plot of a video while they listened. Lambert might not appear at the concert, but his vocals are the heart and soul of the song and they match up perfectly with the smoke columns and shooting flames. That particular show took an already good song and made it great, so we can’t blame Avicii for wanting to immortalize it as part of the music video. He’s in the habit of keeping his vocalists uncredited anyway, controversial though that decision might be. At least when you get up and start dancing around your room to the song, you won’t be missing much in the music video besides people doing the same thing. I sort of wonder if it isn't more of a philosophy with Avicii than it is ego (not that it is implied here). Perhaps he simply views the singer as important as Nile's guitar work or the electronic drum line he adds to his music? Vocals are just part of a bigger whole, such as another paint color to a painter. One isn't more important than another. Its an alternative view of music and if thats where he is coming from, I can't blame him. Heck, if that is his position, I might even admire him for having and holding to a different perspective than the norm.
