Thank you Adam for this wonderful pic from M&G in Warsaw - one of the best TOHT concerts ever!

I think it just takes time.... Every generation has its stars. Some time in the future, I fully expect some guy to come along, and people are gonna be saying: He's good, but he's no Adam Lambert. And there'll be comparisons all over again, just like Adam is now compared to Elvis and Freddie. And that new guy's fans are gonna be fiercely protective and defensive and telling people: "don't live in the past, if you wanna listen to Adam Lambert, go listen to his records", just like some of us are now talking about the (Elvis-)Freddie-Adam comparisons. For me, it's not really about comparing. When I was a kid (I'm 30 now - born on Jan 29, 1984 - yes, by some coincidence AL and I share a birthday - so I'm pretty much in Adam's generation, a couple of years younger), I discovered Elvis and Queen through my parents, who were (moderate) fans, and I liked that type of music. But then I also listened to what my friends/generation/ were into: Madonna, Michael Jackson, dance, pop. I even liked disco and funk, and I liked show tunes and theater as well. Adam's blend of genres and styles therefore suits me more than if he stayed in just one genre. I think what I appreciate most (after THE VOICE) is that he's beyond genres. I don't like to listen to just one type of music all the time, which is why I never really had a 'favourite' singer or band, until Adam came along and proved that you don't have to do just one type of music, you can mix things up and just take the best out of all the genres, combine them and get something even bigger and better than the sum of its parts. Adam is unique. There was only one Elvis, there was only one Freddie, and there is only one Adam. It's actually very simple. There is also only one of me. There is only one of you. As Oscar Wilde said: "You can only be yourself, everybody else is already taken." THIS! ETA: Voted.

Just a quick addendum to my post last night as I crashed right after posting that. I got up this morning and went to wiki to check on the facts for Bonnie Tyler. It wasn't throat cancer but vocal nodules really early in her career after being signed but before she really made an impact. I remember seeing or hearing an interview with her at some point where she was commenting on this desire for "grit" in the voice in response to an interview question. She said her "grit" was due to this surgery and she had thought it would end her career and was puzzled that she actually had more success after her voice was destroyed. I think the interviewer said something about people trying to sing like her with that grit and she found it sad that someone would try to destroy their voice like that.

Brian had a knee replacement in 2012. The cancer scare was this past December. Brian's knee replacement surgery was last August, not in 2012. On my iPhone and can't post link, but check out his soapbox -- on 7-27-13 he talks about heading to surgery. Poor Brian -- 2013 was not a great year health-wise for him.

aleks, I really loved what you had to say about NIH and SCC. I, too absolutely love the hard driving rhythms, the explosion onto the stage after the tease of the opening. This may sound strange, but there is a purity to Adam and to his voice, that is beyond simply the technicalities of his vocal training and it remains there despite his sexiness on stage. I think vocal technique is only part of it. Perhaps the word I am looking for to describe Adam is 'refined' - even if we're talking about his sexiness, he is like Dita Von Teese versus a stripper. He is also so multi-dimensional and his talent so vast that he is chamelian-like, which I think is part of what people find so confusing. He is therefore authentic in many forms of expression, some are simply more his more developed expression than others. The version of SCC you showed is Adam-porn, pure and simple. I think I described it as panther-like and dangerous, when I first saw it. Anyway, if you are enjoying Stone Cold Crazy, here is the version with James Hetfield, performed at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. This is for your listening pleasure only, because you like the song, certainly not for comparisons and not to discuss 'rock voices': I have deliberately not listened to/watched the whole concert because I don't want to spoil my live experience completely. But each concert I go to these two songs first up and then hit repeat . He is performing these songs better and better each concert. That is simply a comment on how complex the whole Queen catalogue is to sing.

Given all the discussions about Freddie's singing style and Adam's singing style I thought this might be of interest - article comparing Sinatra and Buble... www.audiophilia.com/wp/?p=1002The last sentence of the article has a familiar ring... "There will never be another Sinatra." Would be interesting to think of other "there will never be another ..." singers. Nominations open! (hey will help kill the time for people until the next concert and between repeat listenings of favorite QAL performances.) My list: There will never be another Adam Lambert.
