A nice article. Except this one part: "Yet if Lambert has not quite become the superstar many predicted, it may also be because his contrived brand of glam-inflected pop is not individual or characterful enough to really warrant world domination" ... oh well. My DH has always said the same thing to me when discussing Adam's music.

I had just such a wake up call recently. I was so unnerved by a fan discussion that I lost faith in Adam. It may sound silly but it was real. Over the course of about a week my love returned and I decided to make the Fireflies video to celebrate. I also changed the way I participate to protect the magic. Juniemoon....please don't let discussions upset you. I have learned to read everyone's opinions and get their different perspectives but I always rely on what I feel inside about a topic and just scroll when needed. And I try to stay clear of the comment sections on articles.lol Me too. I really turned over a new leaf and scroll much more these days.

I do not care about world domination. The only thing I want for Adam is to do what he wants and be happy. I would hate for his joy in life to be lost. I agree 100%!

My DH has always said the same thing to me when discussing Adam's music. Actually technically this quote is not wrong. And I don't think its a critisism of Adam Lambert. Its still inferring Adam should be a superstar. I felt some of his music choices was a tad contrived and lacking character at times with the whole glam pop. I just don't think it connected with the masses. Now ppl are entitled to disagree, but jmo. I know following Adam your in a bubble. As I guess most fanbases are. So its hard to take critism of Adam some timed. Its polarizing. But I don't think Adams been flawless in his career, hes made some mistakes. I thought continuing making out with Tommy after the AMA's on his gn tour was one of them IMO. Some even suggested Lady Gaga influenced Adams decision to go the Glam route. Not sure about that one tho. But its all in the past. Let's just hope A3 has music has music that connects with everyone. And I think it well.

Many a day I'll leave when 'discussions' become territorial disputes. Today what I have appreciated is the honesty of feeling and thought about Adam, his talent, the songs he sings. Sometimes I find there is only a one-way street tolerated in the fandom in general and it tends toward adorational. Reading people express not loving everything Adam Lambert does or sings or creates to me is such a breath of fresh air. It makes Adam real. Not demeaning him or trying to make Adam into someone else. This is one thread I think Adam might appreciate reading. I certainly have.

Looking for help on headphones. I welcomed a new next door neighbor yesterday. She was tearing out flooring and carpeting that drove me out of my condo for awhile (banging that shook the walls). I went over to meet her later and she apologized profusely about the disruption and I told her no worries, it is unusual that you can hear anything through the walls. She replied that was usually true but she has been hearing something (bass?) and wasn't sure where it was coming from ... Um me, playing Adam / QAL videos on my computer with a major speaker and bass system ... oops . Soooooooooooo, looking for info from the headphone on Amazon discussion. ETA. Found it!

mszue, just so you're sure, I didn't take any of your comments to be 'normative'. I'm obviously in a different time zone, so my apologies if the discussion has moved on. I just wanted to say that so much of what we've been discussing is based on the premise that success for Adam equals WORLD DOMINATION and WORLD SUPERSTARDOM and the path to that is unclear - and then we talk about the possible impacts of his 'gayness', we talk about the nature of pop song quality/pop market, the lead/follow debate, what it may mean that he doesn't write his own songs, performance style, even possible gay speech patterns, what the possible 'formula' might be ...... I really feel this is just a fan desire that causes a lot of angst/worry etc and it frames the discussion in terms that something is somehow 'wrong', which is inherently negative from my own POV. For me, it also takes the joy away. Adam thanked us for being on the journey with him. I've never heard him talk about his aspirations other than in terms of longevity and diversity. That may mean a very different thing to his artistry. I never get the sense that he is sweating anything now, despite his ambition. I certainly get the sense that he is evolving and exploring and is happy to do that. For all its so-called 'failures' in the marketplace (because it didn't catapult him to WORLD DOMINATION), Trespassing was the album Adam wanted to make as Executive Producer. It wasn't a pure expression because of issues with the label, single selection etc; but his artistry and what he wanted to say is very evident listening to the album as a whole. Remember the tweets between Adam and his dad about the album, when his dad said to follow his gut? Adam is incredibly successful now, already, any way you look at it objectively. When the expectation on more/different success is added to the equation because his talent/voice deserves that to have happen, I believe that is an individual choice we make as fans and ultimately it adds nothing to go there. Oh thank you for saying this. I think this is so important. Adam is a pioneer in so many ways, vocally, personally, he is an artist who is trying to find his own path, and does so, so honestly and with so much artistic integrity. Like all pioneers, Adam will imo advance a bit slower at times, and he might zig-zag more, as he needs to do along the way to figure things out. Comparing the pioneer to the ordinary travelers on well-established paths, is absurd and pointless, but that comparison will continue to be made, until the unique and defining element is properly understood by those that do the critiquing, including at times, his own fans, even though they do it with best intentions, trying to figure it out for him. He will just have to ignore it, and move on, just as he is doing. Adam's special, rich sound is already quite apparent in pieces, but not all pieces have come together yet. Who knows in what form it will happen, pop song or otherwise. For example: I love when Adam sings his own background vocals, as he often does, wish sometimes he would widen that background vocal to be a full voice, kind of like a duet with himself, allowing him to represent the different sides of himself in different vocal tracks, blending them to be the whole song. It would be one way to create or allow for a simpler chorus and hook, that allows people to sing along, and yet present some more complex vocals or harmonics at the same time. And I think it would fit Adam's rich and fluid sound. Just an idea, that bounced around in my head a lot, not sure why. Adam's sound is always so rich, and I love that, I guess. But Adam was also drawn in other directions during Trespassing, was much more dance and rhythm inspired than I thought he would be, and surely enough, he created music that was ahead of its time, rather than behind. He will need to work it out, over time, what represents himself the best. And the only thing I as a fan need to do, is be patient and give him the space. Adam's fan base is rock solid, it's growing, and I have yet to hear somebody say, they are done waiting. Whatever people may be doing meanwhile, whenever Adam is doing something important, they are all back, which means they are always paying attention. It is all his unique path, and he is working with the best. And as Roger said. He has superb musicality. And coming from an organic and instinctual place. Kissed by a muse, is another way of saying it. It will come together, he will figure it out, and he will continue to surround himself with others who will assist him and help him work it out. Whatever 'it' may be.
