if anyone is interested, here is the link to the Burning Man Live Stream.  momtomany is out there somewhere.  Not sure if the camera direction will move so other views of the playa can be seen.  Not much happening now but it is getting towards dusk and some of the lighted art cars may be out and about soonish.

Yes, I agree! I watched last night and don't get me wrong but Beyonce had way too much air time. Her performance left me wanting less. There would have been plenty of time to honor these two men who helped put MTV on the map. If not this year when??????? MTV has lost it's way!

I'm not sure I would call the VMA's a primetime show or even a major award show.  It wasn't on a major network, only on MTV.  I tried watching it for a bit, only to turn it off.  Most of the press today was more negative than positive. I wanted to see Troye Sivan, for instance, as a current, new artist.  What was televised was pretty much a toss-off with the focus on the female duet partner. And of course, the gathered throng in front of Madison Square Garden of the 20 somethings gave a clue to the focus of the producers.  It was just a television show.  It didn't matter who showed up to collect an award or to enjoy the company of fellow artists.
I wouldn't think Adam would disturb his well-deserved staycation to travel to NYC for that event.  
I don't mean to denigrate the 20 somethings.  MTV just showed the people in the street partying because maybe they couldn't get in?  Madison Square Garden is huge.  I think it can take 45 minutes plus to get through security and up the elevators to the nose-bleeds.  And an hour plus to get back down to the street.

Only 6.5 million viewers on TV even though it was on 11 Viacom cable channels including MTV, MTV2, MTV Classic, VH1, Comedy Central, Spike, TV Land, BET, CMT, Centric and Logo. That’s a steep slide from the 2015 VMAs, which had snared 9.8 million total viewers across 10 Viacom networks – which, in turn, was down from previous year’s 10.3M.

They did get 62.5 million online video streams -- pretty much all about Beyonce and Kanye.

IMO Adam is more likely to be on the Grammys or AMAs as a solo artist vs. Q+AL being. You pretty much need to be nominated for a major Grammy to perform on the program.

Queen never won a Grammy although they did get a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Most of my favorite artists have never performed on or won a Grammy. Many artists and their fans realize the Grammys voters are very conservative, usually miss greatness, and take pride in the fact that they did not win (or even get nominated.)

If Adam gets a major Grammy nomination and gets to perform on the Grammys, I will be thrilled but I really don't think it matters that much.
