8.7.11 by Q3
We already gotten to see previews of the show but tonight we get to see the whole show.
Behind The Music Ep. 223 "Adam Lambert"
Network: VH1
Time: 10:00PM Eastern/9:00PM Central/10:00PM Pacific
It will be aired many more times -- two more times tonight -- 12:00AM midnight and 2:00AM.
Glam-rock powerhouse, Adam Lambert has taken pop music by storm with his handsome looks, electrifying stage theatrics and jaw-dropping vocal acrobatics. In this episode of "Behind the Music" Adam Lambert opens up to VH1 about the challenges he faced during his childhood including realizing he was gay in 6th grade. After finally coping with his identity, Adam freed himself at the age of 18, coming out to his family and moving to Hollywood, CA to pursue his dream of being an entertainer. Struggling to make ends meet, Lambert received his first big break when he landed a part in the European tour of "Hair" at age 19. The excitement of his first role brought out Adam's wild side as he began to experiment with sex, drugs and rock n'roll. For the next eight years Adam was continually cast in various stage productions including "Wicked." At age 27 and without a record deal, Adam had a realization during a psychedelic experience at the Burning Man festival that if he wanted fame he would have to take control and make it happen. In turn, Adam decided to audition for the iconic TV show, Show description: "American Idol." Making the top 13, Adam was poised to go far in the competition until scandalous photos of him dressed in drag and kissing another man leaked on the Internet. Adam remained tight-lipped about the photos to the press, determined to keep the focus on his talent. As he advanced to the final round of the competition, the media began to debate whether America would elect a gay Idol. Placing second, Adam quickly landed a record deal with RCA and 19 Recordings, taking the opportunity to come out about his sexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.
However, Adam wasn't done shocking the world, and during his debut television performance at the "American Music Awards" he stunned audiences by kissing his male bassist onstage. Following a huge backlash from viewers, Adam released his debut album "For Your Entertainment," which skyrocketed to #3 on the Billboard chart in its first week. Viewers of this episode of "Behind the Music" will see never-before-seen home video footage, interviews with family, friends, industry experts and musical luminaries including Barry Weiss and "American Idol" Season 8 winner Kris Allen. With constant criticism about being too bold, too offensive and too gay, Adam Lambert comes clean to VH1 about who he really is and the obstacles he has overcome to get where he is today.
More from VH1.com:
The latest episode of Behind The Music will focus on the life and times of the one, the only Adam Lambert. Last week, we shared with you a clip from the show where Adam discussed his American Idol experience, particularly as it related to his struggle to keep his sexual orientation under wraps (as directed by Idol‘s producers).
And with the debut of Behind The Music: Adam Lambert now just three days away—it premieres this Sunday, August 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT—we’ve got another sneak to share with you. In the video above, Adam discusses the early stages of when he “realized that I was probably not the same as the other boys.” This was around the time that he was 12, and he confesses that “to me, it was a deep secret … I didn’t know how my parents would react, and I didn’t know what that would be like, and I think, at at that age, it was something that I was ashamed of because it was so different.” For Glamberts the world over, this is a special not-to-be missed.

Lessons Learned: How Era 1 Prepared Us for Era 2
8/7/2011 by NoAngel
If this past week is any indication, things are ramping up for Adam and before long we’ll be in the midst of the storm. Weeks of boredom (and sleep) will become a distant memory as the pace intensifies, google alerts flood our inboxes, and we struggle to keep up with new information. We’ve been down this road before, two years ago, and there is a lot we can learn from the period leading up to the release of FYE. For example:
Michelin man- As much as Adam stank-eyed the guy who leaked this pic from the album photoshoot, there’s no denying that this was one of the most entertaining days since the dawn of time. Between the swirly soft-serve hair and the bizarre puffy jacket, I think it’s fair to say that NO ONE liked the look in this pic, but once you got past the holyf*ckingshitwtfisthat phase, the fandom stepped up to the plate and made lemonade out of lemons, and the gifs and jokes were hilarious. And it turned out that the pic that ended up on the back of FYE was pretty cool in a Lost Boy in Space kinda way.
Lesson: never assume anything based on a leak, and laughter is an excellent antidote for angst.
FYE album cover- Remember the day this was revealed? Remember how we all rejoiced at its edginess and its cool throwback vibe? Yeah, me neither. Based on a very unscientific survey (skimming the first 17,000 comments at MJ’s thread for that day) I’d say maybe 5% of fans liked it. The rest were somewhere between OMGYuck! to full-on freakout—the cover was horrible!, the font was a nightmare!!, the whole concept was atrocious!!!, and no red-blooded male would be caught dead going through a checkout line with it!!!!!!!!! Naturally, it generated a bunch of headlines and plenty of people still bought the album.
Lesson: you will not love everything about Album #2; something controversial is pretty much a guarantee, and chances are you’ll still be a fan two years from now.
Radio premiere of the first single- It’s totally normal to go into work two hours early just so you can listen to a livestream of Ryan Seacrest’s radio program hunched over the crappy speaker on your PC, right? And to have a d/l of the song on repeat for the next 18 hours? And to dissect every word and nuance of the song for days? Not to mention having the radio adds tab open on your computer two days a week so you can get a little thrill with each little “ding.”
Lesson: when it comes down to it, the thrill of new music from Adam is an unbeatable high. Don’t let all the other drama distract you from the joy of hearing his voice and knowing other people are getting to hear it, too.
AMAs- Everything about this has already been said. A million times.
Lesson: Adam can survive anything, and so can we.
Subo-gate- The British warbler’s album was released at the same time as Adam’s and sold three and a half times as many copies for reasons too depressing to contemplate. When Adam was asked about it, he said something less than complimentary about her album and her rendition of Wild Horses. The press had a field day, and “Jealous Adam Slams Subo” was the headline du jour. Adam said his words were taken out of context. This was a tough one, because his fans see Adam as a nice person who doesn’t put others down.
Lesson: Adam will say words. The media will cut-and-paste and creatively ~arrange his words to maximize drama. Also, sometimes Adam will say words that you don’t agree with and wish he wouldn’t have said. That’s okay, because sometimes you say words that Adam doesn’t agree with and wish you wouldn’t have said. It all works out.
I could go on, listing -gate after -gate, drama after drama, epic moment after epic moment. Point is, we are tough cookies and will survive to do it all over again. And just imagine what kind of album cover it will take to shock us in 2021 when Adam puts out his seventh album…
I can’t wait!

Top 5 OMG Quotes From Adam Lambert’s VH1 Behind the Music Preview
8.5.11 Wetpaint.com by Jenny McGrath
The clip is just over 3 minutes, but the montage of moments from the VH1 Behind the Music special on Adam Lambert offers a lot of insight into the drama that was unfolding in the days before Kris Allen was crowned the winner of American Idol Season 8. Check out our Top 5 quotes from the video below.
Manufactured drama
Kris Allen: “He was the guyliner guy with the makeup on, and I was the guy next door that plays his guitar and sings the love songs to the girls. The show knew exactly what they were doing, obviously. They wanted to pit us against each other.”
Ideal Idol
Adam’s friend Danielle Stori: “They’re used to the black-and-white, cookie cutter shaped Idol. You know, you’re representing America, so you better be everything it stands for. And Adam isn’t that.”
Control freak out
Adam Lambert: “It was hard for me because I wasn’t able to talk. Technically, being on Idol, you can’t do any interviews individually until you’re out of the show. So I was sitting there going, ‘I can’t really put in my two cents.’ It felt out of my control, and feeling out of control is scary.”
Two very different stratospheres…
Adam Lambert: “Kris and I had talked right before the final show, and we were both like, ‘it really doesn’t matter what happens now because when you get to the end of a show like that, you get the exposure you get from American Idol, your career is already gonna take off into a different stratosphere.”
Style icon
Adam Lambert: “I wouldn’t want to go through my career hiding anything or trying to cover something up. That’s just not my style.”
