See, that's just it, tigerlily, HAVE they happily consumed that which was dictated to them to consume? My question is are they setting the precedent or are they being preyed upon? I think it's a little of both. And people wonder why teens are the key demographic on these things? IDK, but I wish I did know the secret to what would catch on with teens/tweens/young adults because it would make me a TON of money! They like what they like. High School kids started watching Jersey Shore because everyone at school was talking about it and it was fun to make fun of the idiot losers on the show who party all the time. MTV didn't force this show on the younger generation. They simply presented it, and it caught on- in a HUGE way. The producers of Jersey Shore and MTV were utterly surprised with the huge ratings for this silly reality show. I don't think anyone can predict what is going to catch on, and to what level, for any age. Who could have predicted the worldwide fascination with Susan Boyle? I don't understand the "Boyle fascination", but I can't deny that it exists. Just because I don't understand why certain music, shows or people are popular- doesn't mean that I can't aknowledge the fact that tons of other consumers or viewers must feel very different than I do. In short- there are tons of artists and shows that are popular that I care nothing about, but they are at the top of their category because millions of others do care about them. Yes, I do think they are somewhere in the middle of being drivers and consumers. Although, I wouldn't quite say that MTV just presented "Jersey Shore," a lot of hype and promotion went behind it. But ITA that a lot of cult classics start by people mocking the show, but then it takes on a charm of it's own. The entire "COPS" phenomenon largely started with people watching it to say, "OMG! Glad I'm not as effed up as those losers!" And it could often be hysterically funny. From the casual observer, it's like, "Why are you watching that trainwreck?" But then after you've watched with a group once or twice and find yourself laughing your ass off, you think, "Okay, maybe that's why ..." A recent phenomenon I've heard about here and there are young college-aged guys who are obsessed with "My Little Pony." They're called "bronies." Urban Dictionary description: www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=BronyA Wired.com article: www.wired.com/underwire/2011/06/bronies-my-little-ponys/So, you're right, you just never know what will catch on. And believe me, I've consumed more than my fair share of mindless entertainment. I often find it very relaxing, especially when stressed. But once it crosses over from mindless to annoying, it's like nails on a chalkboard.

Regarding Rot vs. Burn, I agree with the consensus. I think the choice was probably driven by phonics: Like Q3 said, the open vowel sound – short O, hard consonants of R and T on either end – it's a word he can growl and hit hard with emotion, whereas "burn," with its short U, and kind of purry RN sound is kind of difficult to put inflection on and power behind.
I also like the assessments that it was chosen because it wasn't particularly biblical and it was the more unexpected choice.

I keep thinking about this tweet from Adam's twitter party. What does Adam consider "major" about the song? misty_Glambert @adamlambert What's one word to describe the last song you worked on?

Hi misha! I don't have any answers, but I can't WAIT for this episode! I'm not optimistic about an extended appearance for Adam, however. I'm assuming, since he only filmed one day, that he will be a guest judge for the runway show. The previous judges this season have been almost invisible - shown only a couple of times. I'm hoping that Adam has so many amazing things to say, with crazy charisma, that they'll show an extended look. I think I heard a rumor it would come out in October. However long Adam filmed, he seems to have made quite an impression on Nina Garcia. Oh, I hadn't heard the October rumor. That fits better with his single release (and greater chance for us to hear a snippet!). But if they had seven contestants left the week they filmed Adam's episode, as Heidi Klum said, it seems it has to either be a September 22 (Ep. 9 "Image Is Everything" seems a likely theme for him) or September 29 (maybe they'll tie Ep. 10 "Sew '70s" into glam rock or something?) airdate. But I don't really have a clue! I'm very excited for the episode, too, lisapf! The show is so perfect for him. Can't wait to see him charm everyone.

@adamlambert misty_Glambert majorWasn't major a Victoria Beckham catchphrase a while back? It was used to describe anything awesome/hot/cutting-edge? U.K. peeps, is that common slang in Britain? That's what I thought he meant.

@adamlambert misty_Glambert majorI've been thinking about it too Lulu. Maybe if the last song he's worked on is the one with Benny Blanco and MAYBE if this is what he considers to be his first single, he thinks of it as major. I cannot remember, are all the last tweets from the studio were the ones from Benny Blanco and the others involved in this song? ???

@adamlambert misty_Glambert majorThe last song we heard about was his recording in NY with Benny Blanco. Maybe this is going to be his first single.
