I guess I'm really listing my favorites rather than the best which breaks the rules, but I like what I like and some of it isn't the best musically or lyrically....most of mine have been listed with links already:
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley Crazy - Gnarls Barkley Lay, Lady Lay - Bob Dylan
Lets Get if On - Marvin Gaye
In the Still of the Night - Five Satins

I am so enjoying this trip down memory lane. So much so it takes me back to my husbands beginnings in the music business. If anyone is interested theres a web site called Brumbeat. It has a lot of info on bands from Birmingham England where my husband was from. Some of the bands you will know, Moody Blues, Black Sabath, Gene Vincent, Gary Glitter, etc. My husbands band was Johnny Neal & the Starliners. His name was Ian Mutch known as MONK. Under Features theres a trubute written by Johnny Neal in 2006 at a reunion after he learned of my husbands death. I know this is off topic but with all this music from days long gone I'm feeling very sentimental.

For those of you into rock, you can scroll by this one. For those who love Sondheim and theatricality, this song is achingly beautiful and sung with such deep emotion, it leaves me in awe. Cassie, just saw Follies in NYC and another song that I love and brings tears to my eyes is In Buddy's Eyes. Just sub Buddy for sig other. Sorry I don't know how to add link.

Great music posted. It's hard to choose five. These five are on my ipod, but I don't think they have been posted.
Anita Baker, I Apologize
Cyndi Lauper -- True Colors
Five for Fighting -- The Riddle
James Ingram -- 100 Ways
Luther Vandross -- A House is Not a Home

Well, we have a looot of godies here tonight. Many favorites of mine were already posted... Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, CCR, Jethro Tull, Queen, The Who, Michael Jackson, Annie Lennox, Bowie... So, my list of "Greatest Songs" is as follows. The first one has become my most played song, overriding anything else on my playlist, can you blame me? I also love the Foxwoods version posted earlier. 1. WLL - Adam Lambert Fantasy SpringsBest rock song, used to be my number one.... link posted earlier 2. Bohemian Rhapsody - QueenBest jazz song, although Miles Davies/Kind of Blue and Thelonius Monk w Caravan come close... 3. Birdland - performed here by The Manhattan TransferSomething modern; although part of it (Mozart is from 1791, don't know if Q3 will approve, lol) 4. Lacrymosa - EvanescenceOne from Doors is a must, so I went with this one, today. 5. Raiders on the Storm - The DoorsJust impossible to just pick five..... mercy.... Loved the Supertramp, Gelly! Chunkey, I got some new ones from you to listen to. Today's been so much fun! And Mia & Zinnia, thanks so much for the Sauli-thread, I will pop in to look what you lovely ladies have gathered there!

It would be easier to do favorite 50 than favorite 5 but this is a sampling of my list.
Horse With No Name / America Rainy Night In Georgia / Brooks Benton You Look Wonderful Tonight / Eric Clapton The Unforgiven / Metallica Father Figure / George Michael
I forgot about Riders on the Storm / Doors. I loved that song.
