I share others in some of my favorites but my number one song writer of all time is Leonard Cohen....in a way, I would simply list my 5 favorite of his and that seems not quite fair/right but I will include more than one I think. number 1 without a doubt. I know there are lots of references to this one...and not all favorable...but damn, it is a great song and still best rendered by the Righteous Brothers, IMO Cohen again...nobody does lyrics like this man...I fall in love with him everytime I listen to him....I have so many favorites that change with the day and time...The Tower of Song ., Democracy [the wells of disappointment where the women go to kneal] or Repent ..sigh..
Bring him home...I have wept to this more times than I can possibly say! When my mother was ill..I lived just over a 2 hour drive from home and I drove there every weekend for close to a year. The Les Miz cd just filled the entire drive...I saw the show live 3 times in reality and at least 2 or 3 hundred times in my mind.
And finally...who amongst us, 'of a certain age' cannot remember the power of this one...we are talking lyrics now aren't we???

"So your girlfriend rolls a Honda, playing work out tapes my Fonda...well Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda! My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hon!" And THAT is why Baby Got Back needs to be on this list. I will tirelessly lobby for the inclusion of this great American masterpiece of lyrical brilliance. Ha, ha! I love your choice! You have made me smile.

I can close my eyes and just imagine how Adam would sound on this one. It goes on my list of songs I would take out a second mortgage on the house to hear Adam sing.

aurora - this is mind blowing on the bizarre scale of things... NOTHING that Gaga possibly conjure will outdo this concert. Nothing. nica575 LOL that whole consert TOTAL BALALAIKA SHOW (1993) is in YT, if you are interested in more mind blowing on the bizarre scale of things...www.youtube.com/results?search_query=TOTAL+BALALAIKA+SHOW+%281993%29&aq=fI love EURYTHMICS! THANK YOU! I will definitely watch later tonight - it looks they have 100K people or more there! Since I am familiar with The Red Army Quire repertoire circa pre-1990 - their participation in a Rock concert makes me believe that they went "commercial" and need to make money... anyhooo, they happen to be an awesome, uber professional singing machine - doing a rock concert - WOW! totally speechless! The last two in my top 5. Feeling Good - another jazz standard. Here's the best version of it I have heard. The last may not qualify because it is obscure -- at least for now. But it is beautifully simple, performed simply and exquisitely, and the lyrics tear your soul. Ditto! and I can add a few more by the same performer ;D

One of my favorite covers of Hallelujah was when Jason Castro sang it on Idol, even thought his voice cracked on the last note. ] Jason did a pretty good job on this, I grant. But (and sorry, this is me getting all judge-y again) he selected the 2 least-likely-to-offend stanzas of the song. I know they have a time limit, but IMO it's not the song if you censor out the meaning and the soul of it. Was this released on iTunes during the season? Did he sing the whole song?

I was planning on using the practice thread today! Oh well, my incompetence will have to be in full view! :-[ I'm not sure how, but you didn't copy / paste the end part of the http addresses for the youtube. You left out some of the letters. I had to erase the youtube brackets so you could see what I'm talking about. Neat trick though, you can put the youtube in brackets around stuff and get an empty white box. There's got to be a use for that. Hmmm...
