Lots of industry people must have known about BS's "alleged" behavior for a long time. It actually seems like it was common knowledge. I'm beginning to agree that this current tempest does have something to do with:
"awards revenge" of some kind? Sour grapes? Jealousy? Oscar angst? Desperation? The blame game?
All of a sudden there's a kind of a blame-game panic going on. It seems as if the lack of awards (so far) for ASIB is really bothersome to Hollywood. And BR is turning into a target. And the BS baggage the movie carries is just frosting on the cake.

Watching RBG, the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and she quotes the 14th amendment:
and here is the case that decided on the presumption of innocence:

Ed. 481 Holding it is the duty of the judge, in all jurisdictions, when requested, and in some when not requested, to explain it to the jury in his charge. I'm pretty sure that Brian and Roger were not the ones looking for a producer. This was Graham King's project along with Jim Beach. Yes the guys had some input but they were not the first in line or the ones responsible for vetting anyone. What they are is a handy visible target.

I'm beginning to agree that this current tempest does have something to do with: "awards revenge" of some kind? Sour grapes? Jealousy? Oscar angst? Desperation? The blame game? All of a sudden there's a kind of a blame-game panic going on. It seems as if the lack of awards (so far) for ASIB is really bothersome to Hollywood. And BR is turning into a target. And the BS baggage the movie carries is just frosting on the cake. It is an interesting theory but the timing doesn't work. This year's Oscar ballets had to be returned by Monday, January 14. I lot of this is because of the high-profile of the Oscars and Social Media distorting reality.
That is vote ended before the social media firestorm started.
There are 8,176 eligible voting members of the Academy of Motion Arts -- believed to be heavily Americans and old and not critics. They seem unlikely to be BoRhap admirers and less likely to be Queen fans. But that does not mean it can't win. Here is a fun explanation of the process of getting to be a voter and of how something gets nominated and wins. BoBhap could win Best Picture by getting a lot of #2 votes.
I think it is really unlikely that the Academy voters will pick BoRhap for best picture -- and if it happens, it will be a first for Queen -- a major award in the U.S. Yes, I hope it wins -- just not expecting it.
The Golden Globes are not similar to the Oscars. They are voted on by the the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association -- no Americans, lots of UK, AU, NZ, Japan, etc. -- about 50 countries. The outcomes are often different.

There is no small amount of hysteria associated with #metoo and many jumping into the fray have no clue about it's roots. All that aside sexual abuse is awful and yes people who make accusations should have benefit of due process, as should people accused. I also feel for all public figures caught in the web of the backlash around accusations towards people they know. They are often in an impossible situation and will be damned by one side or the other no matter what they do. Should (alleged) acts by someone in past completely negate effort and accomplishment of their more recent work? I don't know the answer. To paraphrase stoic philosopher Epictetus - all I control are my thoughts and actions, so those of others should not disquiet me... Perfect. Words to live by for sure...

For those of us who loved Bohemian Rhapsody, as it turned out, I think we thought it was what Brian and Roger wanted to say about Freddie. Rami Malek was incredible in his interpretation of Freddie. I remember the years of frustration about not getting the film done, and the sacha controversy. I don't expect BR to win for best picture. Rami should have his shot despite the Singer backlash.

Scroll is your friend
By choosing to respond to a fairly polite email from a stranger in the way he did, Brian signaled concern for unfair treatment of Bryan Singer. It’s fine if your sympathies lie with Brian and/or Bryan. No one can dictate someone else’s response. I do have much sympathy for Rami who is the subject of some critical articles for saying he hadn’t heard the allegations. I sympathize because I think he has few options f he doesn’t want to throw his career into turmoil, Rami doesn’t even like Singer but he had no power in this situation. He had no influence over the choice of director and he was a tv actor already cast as lead in a movie that had the power to catapault him to stardom. As it has. In contrast, Brian did have a voice in director selection and he hasn’t received the same level of questioning. (Also the outcry about Singer didn’t suddenly spike because of BoRhap. The outrage was given a platform w the movie’s success. It became “newsworthy” it’s always Ben there. The Singer Issue has even been discussed on this site years before the movie. Having said all that, I’m not looking for an argument. No one is going to change anyone’s mind- based on the times we live in.
I don’t comment on social media as I don’t find it constructive. I don’t like speaking up at all, esp as a lone voice, but I know many like me lurk here silently for love of Adam. So I wanted to say something to any fellow lurkers who might be struggling w this. As with Weinstein and Cosby and Spacey, the number of victims who ventured to tell their stories continued to just grow over years - each realizing that, despite the predators’ behavior being an “open secret,” they were up against powerful men with the resources and “fan support” to discredit them and essentially victimize them again. They knew they’d be labeled - users, sluts, hysterics. The accusations against Singer are largely from men who say they were boys or very young men when the events happened - so much more vulnerable than adults. Their later lives are often haunted by shame and low self esteem. (Anthony Edwards, who was lucky enough to go on to success, told the story of how he faced his abuser (not Singer) as an older man but was not able to do so until he was about 50 iirc.) As with any situation like this, is it possible one or more of a group are lying? Sure. But it is at least as unlikely to believe that all are lying or simply don’t deserved to be believed in the absence of videotape or eye witnesses to their assaults. So for anyone who might be feeling alone, in pain, or even ashamed about not being believed by family, friends, colleagues, etc., I and others may be quiet but we see you and hear you and believe you. The world is changing.
