Southwest APOLOGIZED to Kevin Smith right away..... here is a news report on that incident: mashable.com/2010/02/14/southwest-kevin-smith/ Part of text follows. Did I miss the apology or call to Leisha Hailey?????? Or a call from a VP? The incident, which took place on Saturday, resulted in dozens of Tweets on Smith’s account (he has 1.6 million followers at the time of writing). A brief sampling: Dear @southwestair – I know I’m fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated? Wanna tell me I’m too wide for the sky? Totally cool. But fair warning, folks: IF YOU LOOK LIKE ME, YOU MAY BE EJECTED FROM @southwestair. Dear @southwestair, I’m on another one of your planes, safely seated & buckled-in again, waiting to be dragged off in front of the normies. (accompanied by a Twitpic, top right) Southwest, which also counts over 1 million Twitter followers, responded: @thatkevinsmith hey Kevin! I’m so sorry for your experience tonight! Hopefully we can make things right, please follow so we may DM! Hey folks – trust me, I saw the tweets from @thatkevinsmith I’ll get all the details and handle accordingly! Thanks for your concerns! I read every single tweet that comes into this account, and take every tweet seriously. We’ll handle @thatkevinsmith issue asap I’ve read the tweets all night from @thatkevinsmith – He’ll be getting a call at home from our Customer Relations VP tonight. @thatkevinsmith Ok, I’ll be sure to check it out. Hopefully you received our voicemail earlier this evening. @thatkevinsmith Again, I’m very sorry for the experience you had tonight. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do. @thatkevinsmith We called you on the number you had on file in your reservation. If you prefer a different number, please DM me. Thanks! Our apology to @thatkevinsmith and more details regarding the events from last night – cot.ag/96KHC7 #Southwest That final Tweet links to a blog post with an apology and explanation by Southwest. The blog is currently down (possibly due to too much traffic), but you can view the entry on the Southwest press site.

Did they get this right....Cam is her girlfriend? No -- there were a couple news reports that were wrong and then they multiplied. I guess they think that since they are a musical duo and both lesbian, they must be a couple. ?????

Thanks, Q3. I made the mistake earlier and thought it was Cam.

Did they get this right....Cam is her girlfriend? No -- there were a couple news reports that were wrong and then they multiplied. I guess they think that since they are a musical duo and both lesbian, they must be a couple. ????? This is confusing. Yesterday when Adam was defending them, he said that he knew her and he talked to her and got the real story and that she had played on his tour for a year - not exact words, but close. So it wasn't Cam? So then what was the personal Adam connection? ???

It continues to amaze me that in all the debates about homophobia and LGBT rights there is nobody pointing to the underlying misconcetion. Just because somebody is not personally killing gay people does not mean he/she is not homophobic. Homophobia does not mean hate of homosexuals it means fear of them. And fear is very much underlying this debate and of course Adam is right when he says that fear is a result of ignorance. Bottom-line: for the most part our mainstream population has stopped outright hating gays. We as society are dealing with the fringes where it is still going on (school bullying and hate crimes being two major areas of attention). I don't mean that it is not happening, just that the majority has arranged itself in some kind of 'comfort zone' that is not hateful. They have learned to act politically correct, they are polite, etc. And they think that with this the gay community will feel accepted. The civil battle at hand deals with equality for gay people. The right to have a public presence equal to straight people (incl. kissing), the right to marriage, the right to equality in all state and federal law, the right to be not discriminated against in work place.....and so on. The majority is fighting this equality demand by LGBT left and right and you can see it right now in the comments provided to the yahoo article or the youtube video and other articles that were posted that people are not ready to even acknowledge the real issue. People make it an issue whether this was a make-out session or not. It should not matter, because straight people would not be escorted off, even if their kissing were such that most people would find it uncomfortable. They would roll their eyes and try to deal with it. And deal with it is all that LGBT is now requesting and Adam is pointing that out. What is it that people don't get that this is about granting equal rights and that not being a hater is just not sufficient? The comments under most of this stuff today are really disheartening. Yes, let's call it as it is. My husband just came home recently on a Southwestern flight that was fairly empty. A couple was almost lying out across the seats making out for a good fifteen minutes. People were staring and were uncomfortable, even my husband thought it a little much, but no one said anything to them, including the flight attendants. This just happened last week, by the way, on a Southwestern flight from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles.
