Talking about colourful clothes. I noticed on Dancing with the Stars this week that the judge, Bruno, was wearing a green velvet suit. Since Bruno is gay, I like to think he is aware of Adam's EP and, maybe, he wore the suit on purpose.

I don't really remember anything that the major label did for WWFM that is not being done now, but it was a long time ago and I could easily have forgotten. I think WWFM's success had more to do with being right off Idol, not active marketing. Adam is doing every kind of promo that I can think of; radio interviews, radio concerts, television, magazines, physical billboards (Times Square for goodness sakes), iTunes banners, Spotify interviews ... all of it. He has never reached the level of success that allows for coasting for whatever reason, but he and his team are working hard to promote Velvet. The biggest snafus that I can identify so far are the physical CD rollout and his illness. Whether the general public and radio execs embrace him, it is not because of lack of effort and authenticity. I think you did forget. Barry Weiss, who headed RCA at the time, really liked, supported and believed in Adam. His radio team fought hard to get Adam the Cumulus block. Cumulus was the most resistant and the 2nd largest player. They were very conservative and had no problem giving the play to other Idols at the time. Kris, Daughtry, Cook etc. had the Cumulus blocks added as soon as their songs came out. But RCA team said they had to fight for Adam. Weiss was even in Adam's Behind the Music and True Hollywood Story. When he left RCA, his whole radio team was let go. Adam did not have that kind of support from the new regime and it showed. Weiss helped to put Frank Ocean on the map after he left RCA. Frank said he put big money and support behind him. Money and support that he did not have before Weiss arrived. Weiss was also there and helped Adam go international at the beginning of his career (and they wanted him). Thankfully that carried over even after he left. That kind of support was what Adam needed. It think his career (tho really good) would have been different if Weiss had stayed and continued to be his big champion. But as an Indie, I think Adam is giving it a good go. But don't think it will ever compete with the majors. Would LOVE to be wrong, lol.

I don't think we can measure anything that Adam is putting out now by WWFM. That was his biggest hit in the US. Double platinum. And he had a major label pushing it on CHR and HAC with all they had. Radio has not been as good to him since that time even with a major behind him. But I do think SP is doing fine (better than I thought it would from an indie) and we and they will stick with it. It would not make sense to switch it out in the US while it is moving up. As much as I love CTY, and want to see it get a chance, I think it will all depend on how well SP does. Adam may give it a try when SP does all it can do. And I like SP too so I want to see it do well. I think it would mean a lot to Adam. And we don't even know when Side B is coming out. I totally agree. WWFM was a completely different era in his career. Right out of Idol. Major labor. Lots of buzz. That song is not one of my all-time favorites of his, but it is his biggest hit and I do like it. SP is doing better than I expected! I sure hope it keeps getting spins on radio in the US. Adam is also very lucky to have a large, loyal international fanbase, too. It's a life-saver. I have been streaming SP a lot. And CTY has caught hold and is getting some traction. Wonder if he'll release it as a single in the US at some point as he has done overseas? I see good potential with that song. We haven't gotten and true romantic ballad from him in a while. I sure hope Side B has some barn-burners on it. The best may be yet to come!

I think Adam is doing everything in his power to get his music and his face out there as much as possible. An indie label is a whole different animal. He has definitely taken charge and is giving it all he's got. I hope his one-offs in December get him some attention. Nice that The Talk is rescheduled. Wonder about Corden? SP is crawling up the HAC chart. Hope it has lots of momentum left! It would be great if CTY got to be a US single. Never thought I'd get so involved in all this stuff in my life. Thank you, Adam, for driving me crazy.

I had no intention of measuring SP against WWFM. I was simply reminding people that songs do not necessarily move fast on US radio. SP has only been out for a little under a month. WWFM took 5-6 months to peak. SP is just getting started and there is no reason to be looking for a second single in the US at this point.

Radio may work with a major for 5-6 months on a single but I doubt they will work a single that long for Empire. SP is the single so we need to do what we can and hope it keeps moving up instead of expecting/hoping it is pulled soon for another.

We have seen in the past that oftentimes non-US markets move through singles faster, hence an interim single released or just more singles being promoted. IIRC, OZ and NZ were like that. Or they are just testing the waters while they are letting SP do it’s thing in the US on Hac. ITA and was going to post something similar. It has become common to have different singles in different markets in the digital era.

It was in a different time and a different promo world, but that song did not just happen. That said, it was also a crowd-pleasing track, meaningful at the time, and really well sung and produced.
