Q3 There is only one Amway....so you know for a fact that in every single country Amway functions they have the same political agenda ? Forgive me, but that doesn't really make sense to me... : First of all -- I have no issue with Adam entertaining people at an Amway event. Nor have I posted anything negative about his appearance. I actually think it is odd that Adam would be booked for an Amway event. ---- now in answer to the question about Amway ---- There is only one company, not separate companies in different countries. The Singapore Event is an Amway corporate event. Amway Global is privately held, primarily by co-founders Richard DeVos, Sr. and Jay Van Andel. Both are right-wing conservative Republicans. And I am not saying everyone who is a Republican is a right-wing conservative. They support a wide range of causes and have done tremendous work for children's charities. According to Forbes magazine, DeVos is the 79th wealthiest person in the United States, and the 254th richest in the world, with an estimated net worth of USD$ 4.2 billion. DeVos and Amway are two of the largest donors to the Republican party. His son, Richard DeVos Jr. was the Republican nominee for governor of Michigan in 2006, but was defeated by Jennifer Granholm.

Thanks for the explanation. I am still puzzled (as you are) why they would have asked Adam to perform given their leanings. A puzzle, hope he gets wonderfully paid

Way behind on the thread but Jive said that Kris was the #1 release on the Q4 2011 schedule in the Clear Channel Fall-Winter preview meetings. Toby accurately reported what the label said. That was before the Jive execs knew there would not be a Jive in Q4 2011. As a fan of both Kris and Adam, I feel like I've stumbled into bizarro world. Suddenly, Kris is sporting questionable facial hair, performing at the Trevor Project Gala for Lady Gaga, talking about dubstep, and releasing new music in Q1 2012; meanwhile Adam is a Q4 2011 priority who appears to be doing an acoustic performance at an Amway convention where he may premier his new single that, according to some, may be midtempo song akin to the HAC-friendly WWFM. I find this all so very strange and can't wait to see how this plays out! Really? Is there a link where this information was posted, because MJ and the NAL stans got their Q4 priority meme from TK. No other dj reported one thing about Kris or about hearing his song. Not one! KA didn't even have a producer at the time. Also, Kris is releasing "music in the Q1", not an album. Joe R. said his single "should be out sometime in the first quarter". There hasn't been any type of confirmation on when NAL's actual album is coming out. Kris isn't doing ANYTHING with dubstep, he was poking fun at it. Adam is doing a midtempo single that is a is "a piece of flaw-free radio candy". The single will be sent for adds on Pop radio. No one has said anything about Adam's new single being HAC-friendly. I would expect an HAC type offering from NAL though, unless he records another cover song from The Script.

But why would Amway book Adam??? It is very possible that they booked Adam because they simply wanted Adam Lambert, gay or not. I do see the oddity in this situation; however, when we want change, most often we need to be the change itself. Sometimes things happen for mysterious reasons...

Really, there is angst over Amway?
Sorry, but I just simply can't get worked up about it.
I've loathed Amway since the 80's, when my SIL and then my husband got all involved in it, dragged me into it unwillingly (for the sake of peace) and it was the second coming n'all. However, in saying that, until today and now being involved in an international community, I had no freaking idea about Amway's politics.
So, in my books, and perhaps internationaly, the US politics involved are simply non existent outside of America. YMMV.
I hate Amway for different reasons. I have never, ever minded their products - they're fine. It is the METHOD & SALES PITCH that I object to so strongly. Over the years I have been contacted by oh so many people who haven't bothered to stay in touch for 20 years and they suddenly ring me up and want to invite me to a precious little 'gathering' at their place to discuss a 'new' and 'exciting' business proposition. If I ask 'is it Amway', they pontificate. By the time I have asked three times, in ever increasing toppiness, and they finally admit that, yes it is - then I become relatively vocal about it.
I went to Amway meetings waaaaaayyyy back, and no offence to our US peeps, but the whole rah rah, hand on heart, Americana hoopla drove me insane way back then. It might have changed since then, but I still feel strongly about the recruiting methods used to sell product.
Lolz... and now we add politics to the mix.
Personally, I doubt Adam has a clue about any of this. It's a one off gig in China paying sweet money. Why would he turn it down?
Is it really any deeper than that?

Amway is a privately held US Corporation -- all of the global operations are owned by the same people. They have a ton of money. The company and the two founding families support both Republican (pro-business) and Evangelical Christian causes. They also financially support anti-gay causes....for example: "Amway billionaire Rich Devos, the owner of NBA team Orlando Magic, has donated $100K to support Florida's Amendment 2, which would make gay marriage double-extra banned in Florida. Protesters have been appearing at outside Magic games at Orlando's Amway Arena." Link: joemygod.blogspot.com/2008/10/amway-billionaire-gives-100k-to-fight.html Why in the world would this family spend 100K to fight gay marriage and then turn around and spend tons of money to have an openly gay artist come sing at one of their conventions? ??? I'm sorry, this just doesn't make sense in any way! Do you think the fact that Adam is gay has slipped past them?

I do see the oddity in this situation; however, when we want change, most often we need to be the change itself. Sometimes things happen for mysterious reasons... Well this one is really mysterious to me! The DeVos and Amway have donated millions of dollars to stop gay marriage, to stop stem cell research, to protect life including supporting 2 failed attempts to gain passage of propositions that would prohibit birth control pills and IUDs. They support Christian prayer in public schools, teaching of intelligent design. They believe the bible is the literal word of God. ETC. A few highlights of their donations: in 2008, DeVos gave $100,000 to a group called Florida4Marriage (now Yes2Marriage) in support of a Florida state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. The ballot issue was less publicized on a national level than California's Proposition 8, but passed in the November election by a wide margin. The group employed tactics such as furnishing Florida ministers with sample sermons as part of what it called "Marriage Sunday" leading up to the vote. DeVos' $100,000 comprised about 15 percent of the group's funding. His contribution led to protests in front of Amway Arena, where the DeVos-owned Orlando Magic play. • In 2006, the Richard and Helen DeVos foundation reported a $540,000 donation to Focus on the Family, a Colorado-based organization that stridently opposes gay marriage. The organization donated $400,000 to support Proposition 8 last year, which was successful in banning gay marriage in California. Holland (MI) resident Elsa Prince Broekhuizen contributed $450,000 to the same cause. Broekhuizen is the mother of former state GOP chair Betsy DeVos, whose husband, Dick (son of Richard), lost in a bid to unseat Gov. Jennifer Granholm in 2006. In 2000, Grand Valley State University when then-president Arend Lubbers called for benefits for same-sex partners of faculty members. As The Press reported: "He then retreated, following objections from Amway co-founder Richard DeVos, a major donor to the college. President Mark Murray reaffirmed that decision in 2001. Here is DeVos on Gay Marriage: videos.mlive.com/grpress/2009/05/rich_devos_on_his_opposition_t.html My thought is that DeVos must have no idea that they booked Adam. ETA: I thought the Amway event was in Singapore not China. And I believe it is a Global event, not an Asia event.
