Wow, that is some sobering stuff I'm trying to think even where I'd have to go to get to an "independent" record store. I guess it would be something like Amoeba? It's a good store, but not really a place where I could see Adam's music flying off the shelves. From my experience people go there for the indie stuff and the used stuff. I haven't bought physical CDs for at least a decade, other than Adam's.

This is totally just an example and has no bearing on Adam's album sales, but take the band Train for example. They have sold 950K of there last album and had a massive hit Hey Soul Sister off of it that has sold over 5 million in the US. There latest album was released a few weeks ago. They spent the week prior and the week of in Amazon Top 10. They sold 74K the first week. So I am certainly keeping my expectations in check, as I don't want to be disappointed and it takes away from the fun of having the album. Let's all hope that Adam's album catches on with the masses organically, and it just keeps selling! Exactly. What I want is for Trespassing to get good critical reception, and for Adam to have good promo, and to have steady sustained sales.

FYE sold 198K the first week. I would hope that the first week sales for Trespassing would be more than for FYE. So where did the expectation for 100K come from? Unfortunately, I don't think there's a chance in the world Trespassing will sell as much as FYE's first week. Adam was coming off of Idol with a ton of buzz, lots and lots of AI fan pre-orders, and a Thanksgiving week debut date. 100K is very very optimistic imo. I'd be thrilled to death with 75K. 2nd albums rarely sell as much as the first did, the first week, especially for Idols. But I am being optimistic and guessing over 100,000. Not sure how much over, but I think the power of the Glambert nation is being underestimated. ETA: I also think being on Idol, release week, will have a positive effect on sales.

Train opened with 74K??!! Wow....okay, I'll adjust my expectations down to 80K haha! *crossing fingers for 100k* If Adam sustains decent weekly sales.....that's more important than first week numbers. He should be able to do that cuz it's a damn fine album!

These are interesting but since there are almost no indie record stores left in the US -- the variance in not material. The indie record stores account for less than 7% of US recorded music sales. In the US almost all sales come from retailers who report all stores -- and all sales. The estimated is that Soundscan covers close to 95% of US retail sales. --- It was an issue in 1991 and does effect some indie artists -- but not major label artists with solid distribution.

Portland has several independent record stores that are pretty busy, some are quite huge, but yeah, not the kind of place people tend to shop for pop.

Also keep in mind that FYE was released during the highest sales period for music in the entire year.
I think he will have no problem being in the top 4 albums that week, and in relation to others sales that is not bad in the least bit. I really think if he can bring a very special performance to his Idol appearance, it could push him in that 100K mark, but it is going to have to be really epic like his EMA performance with Queen that generates some huge buz-Who Knows!

And so the sales guessing games begin.
I do know it will be more than 1 and probably less than 200k. Inside of that I have no earthily (or other planetary) idea. Maybe if I throw a dart at a bunch of numbers...
I'm with Kanadie on hoping for a special Idol performance, but that's more about wanting to see him light em up than anything to do with sales, though sales would be a nice by product.

I'm in Colorado (Ft. Collins station). They talked about his return to American Idol to perform and how the Glamberts voted him as the top in the about to pop ;D Oooh and now there are severe storm warnings being announced :-/ hope it misses me. Hahaha, so sweet...hope they keep playing Adam's music. Stay safe from the storm..

His album will release one week after Adam's and his regular album (I didn't see any deluxe version) is at #848 on Amazon.
