Is queen considered HARD ROCK? Even Freddie's voice wouldn't be well suited for "hard rock" which is like Black Sabbath or even Metalica so I'm not sure I understand the comment. In reading all your voice comments Cassie I've gotten the impression that if you had your way Adam would sing Opera or something close to it and I personally hope he never goes down that path. Hell if I know if Queen is considered HARD ROCK. It's a genre I have heard, but do not listen to. I was responding to opinions expressed about whether Adam's voice was right for Queen, or whether it was right for rock. And to opinions that have gone around since Idol, that Adam should do a rock album (Randy and Kara). As for what Adam should sing, if I had my way, I'd love to hear Adam sing opera, musical theater songs, American song book standards, and jazz. That VOICE combined with those genres would be breathtakingly good. But I acknowledge that A) Adam doesn't WANT to sing that style, B) many other folks don't want him singing those styles, and C) if Adam had stuck with those styles he would still be in the chorus in the back (lord knows why he was not given lead roles with that voice, but he wasn't) and singing in late night jazz clubs that had a maximum capacity of 24. Listening to/watching Adam sing pop and rock (or whatever you call what he is doing) is better than not experiencing him at all. He is amazing whatever he is doing, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself watching vid after vid. Good girl. I was afraid we'd have to ban you from Atop. Oh, wait. You're a moderator. I totally understand your opinions. The problem with Adam, as we know, is he CAN do a variety of genres. Rock people think he should stick to pop. Pop people think he might be too rock. Nobody is buying musicals (except for Wicked). He's just too good.

That was different and pretty good. Is this a festival? Huge crowd. I can't think of a musical event in America that would have this big a crowd.

I will probably have to change my name and go into hiding after this post. If you never see another post from me on ATop you can surmise that I was banned permanently. But, here goes: I don't think that Adam's voice is particularly well suited for hard rock.I think he is effective singing with Queen because he has the range for the songs, and he eats up the stage. His showmanship is something very rare these days, but is the essence of Queen as rock opera. The typical voice I hear in hard rock is very chesty. Gruff. And pretty much flat in terms of resonance. There is the basic note, but it lacks the sub-harmonics that add richness and depth. How to explain? When you sing something in the shower, your voice bounces off the smooth surfaces and creates a fuller, richer sound, almost an echo. When you sing the same phrase outside in the open, there is nothing to bounce off, and it sounds dull. The rock singer may be able to belt things out very loudly and with power, but, usually without ring. Adam's voice has all kinds of resonance and sub-harmonics. It's like he is always singing in the shower, even without a mic. The notes bounce around his body, his chest cavity and his head cavities. He has this "ping" or ring to his voice. Even though he can sing with great power on those belted high notes, through much of his range, his voice has a light, almost lilting quality. He can darken it up some, he can add grit, but it's still a light tenor voice. When he really powers it up, he magnifies the resonance even more, and he also uses techniques to sharpen the consonants and vowels in the words to give it bite. It gives the illusion of a rock vocal, but, sound frequency wise, it's not. Adam's voice "fits" better for musical theater, arts songs, and light opera. (Come To Me, Bend to Me, and My Conviction style). There his type of voice is rare and coveted. However, Adam does not want to sing light opera. He wants to sing rock and pop. And, he does it very well, despite not having a voice made to fit that genre. He MAKES his voice fit the genre. Could he actually sing like the typical rocker dude? Possibly. If he had never had classical vocal training, probably to an extent -- if he was singing incorrectly for his body and voice physiology. It would damage his voice over time, like that type of singing without classical technique has damaged other great rock voices. But, I don't think Adam will willingly abandon his technique and training and sing in a style that is harmful on the vocal cords. Even if he wants to be a rock god. The instrument he has is too precious to risk. And, singing with that resonance and ring in your body FEELS so good, from head to.... well, you have seen evidence of where it feels REALLY good. I love the SHOW he puts on with Queen. It is such a total performance. It looks effortless, but, it is very hard work. I have fingers and toes crossed he will perform with them in the US, somewhere relatively close to me. All this is just my opinion based on what I know about the voice. YMMV. This, Cassie! I so agree with you! In an earlier post in June, I tried to allude to his clear bell-like tone that makes his voice so unique and special. Someone once asked me how to describe his voice and one thing that came to my mind was the clear pure tones of a boys choir resonating throughout a cathedral. Adam doesn't seem to fit specifically into any genre in particular, and while right now Adam is focusing on his love of pop and rock, we don't know where he will go with his talent in the future. I would hate to have his voice burn out as has happened with other rock stars (Steve Perry comes to mind), and I believe he knows what to do to prevent this. Having said this, I love what he's doing with Queen right now, especially the bonding that I see with Brian and Roger - it's a beautiful thing. And, please bring this act to the US in the future! I also love where is going with his own material in exploring different styles and emotional content. And who knows what dimensions his future albums may open up for us. As a final aside, I would love to hear him sing "Che Gelida Manima" from La Boheme. That's just me, I guess.

We'll have to agree to disagree darling. An angelic lower tenor to me! ;D I don't see anything wrong with the ad-libs and wails, those are Adam's style and it's Queen + Adam Lambert, Adam's take on Queen, putting his own stamp on it, yadda yadda I agree about having no prob with ad libs, putting his own stamp on it, etc. I've been thinking lately with all the Queen comments (good and bad) that asking Adam to tone down the riffs or high notes would be like asking Maynard Ferguson to play HeWhoCannot amedet the way everyone else did. Maynard played HIGH and LOUD and it was FABULOUS! That's what he was famous for. I heard him live when I was in high school. Check out this video of him playing "Gonna Fly Now." He starts playing at :55, then goes even higher at 1:30, then goes high with circular breathing--I'm exhausted. No this is not how the original song went. He hardly plays one note of the melody, and I'm completely entertained by it. One of my sons was/is a HUGE Maynard fan. He and his high school friends would get together and play Gonna Fly Now until they would literally pass out. You are right - Maynard was one of a kind and definitely his own man musician-wise. He is missed.

Do you know which file he started with - the 1 GB or the 4.1 GB? Hi, In case people are still wanting to make a DVD, the following worked for me if you want to give it a go: 1. Download Terra's 4.1Gb files (there are 3 files) 2. Extract the files using winRAR or 7-Zip ( I used winRAR for this but 7-Zip will work also) 3. Put all 5 files to a single folder 4. Open the folder containing the 5 files in 7-Zip, highlight all 5 files, extract -> this will write a larger single 4.1GB file with MPEG2-TS format 5. I used the FREESTUDIO software (I downloaded both the "Free Video to DVD Converter" and "Free DVD Video Burner" programs) to convert the MPEG2-TS to DVD NTSC format (you can choose Higher quality conversion which resulted in 7.88GB folder. If you choose standard quality, this gives you a 4.02GB folder) 6. Open FreeDVD Video Burner program. Use browse to get to the above folder. Insert a new DVD disk to the DVD writer drive. For the 7.88GB folder, you need the DVD+R DL (double or dual layer DVD disk which can write 8.5GB 240min). For the 4.2GB folder, the normal DVD+R 4.7GB 2hr disk is ok to use. 7. Click burn 8. When finish, the processing window should say completed successfully. Another smaller error window says insert a disk which I ignored. This worked for me and I have replayed the disk on my DVD player on TV or computer. I found the high quality convert is better but the standard is not too bad if you don't have the DL dual layer disk handy or your DVD drive doesnot support it. Note that I did all of this on Window 7 system. Thanks! Did you notice any out-of-sync when you played the DVD, especially in the 2nd half? The techies are saying that their is a 100 ms out-of-sync between the audio & video of the 4.1 GB files.

Anyone know if one of the videos shows Adam coming back on stage with his tank top and bare feet ?
I'm wondering what the audience reaction was or Brian's...
