Les Misérables one of the greatest shows on theater world, so people has great expectation not only on the acting but also on the singing part. Like Adam said, the director chose to undermine the singing part than the acting part. :dunno: |

I know this thread is just about dead but I had to jump in and say I agree with Adam's critique, except that I didn't even like Anne Hathaway in the movie. Hugh Jackman is a great showman and can sell a musical number but this is not The Boy From Oz. As Adam pointed out, this is opera and it's way more difficult than musical theatre. Russell Crowe sounded like Elvis Costello and looked so passive as Javert that it nearly ruined the movie for me. And to whomever wondered about why they added that song Suddenly, it's all about Academy Awards. The score is not admissable for an award because it was not written this year, so they add a song that was specifically written new for the film and get it nominated for Best Song. Wasn't there just a discussion recently about the Freddie Mercury film being made with Sasha Baron Cohen? I think I read somewhere that he's doing his own singing, which makes me want to cry. |

I was just sifting through my bookmarks from last year and rewatched this from PST radio. I don't think it was posted Q3. Adam au-natural singing and terrific charisma. I tend to overlook things ... don't overlook this!!! |

Hey guys! I was looking at what's coming up on TV and saw that on Sat, January 12, 2013 on the WE channel at 9pm, they are showing Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual. Can someone be on the lookout for this and perhaps can record it? Adam is on at the very end, right? Gonna be professionally-filmed for tv. Yay!!

adamlambert Les Mis: Visually impressive w great Emotional performances. But the score suffered massively with great actors PRETENDING to be singers. adamlambert ...it's an opera. Hollywoods movie musicals treat the singing as the last priority. (Dreamgirls was good) adamlambert Anne Hathaway as Fantine and Enjolras were the exceptions for me. adamlambert Helena B Carter and Sasha B Cohen were great too. adamlambert And I do think it was cool they were singing live- but with that cast, they should have studio recorded and sweetened the vocals. adamlambert Eponine's voice was cool too... adamlambert I felt like I should ignore the vocals and focus on the emotional subtext- but the singing was so distracting at times it pulled me out. adamlambert The industry will say "these actors were so brave to attempt singing this score live"but why not cast actors who could actually sound good? adamlambert Sorry for being so harsh but it's so True! Adam is right on target.. MY DH and I left before the film was over couldn't take the singing any more, actors who can sing a bit rather than singers who can act..It belongs on the stage . I love Adam's honesty. I really think there is a lot of hype for a film that is a bit of a travesty.. It downgrades one of the best musical scores ever produced.. What's next .. Kesha ,Minaj in leads....they really can't sing well or act.. PERFECT.  |
