'American Idol' Summer Tour: Ticket Sales Down 347 Percent from 2012 7:00 PM PDT 6/3/2013 by Michele Amabile Angermiller Statistical data compiled by StubHub point to a weak trek, which has already called off a quarter of its scheduled dates. www.hollywoodreporter.com/idol-worship/american-idol-summer-tour-ticket-561993
Ticket sales for the 2013 American Idol Live! Tour are down 347 percent, according to data compiled by ticket resaler StubHub. The news follows word of recent show cancellations, where nearly a quarter of the AEG trek's 40 U.S. dates have been called off.
Originally slated to kick off on June 29, the tour was pushed back to July 19 and some Idol observers are now wondering whether some of the venues, which include New York's Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Nashville's Bridgestone Arena (both with capacity of around 18,000), will have to be scaled down to smaller rooms. "Don't be surprised if they curtain the balconies off completely," says one Idol insider, who points to weaker outings, like season three's, where the stage was moved to the center of the venue -- or "half-house" -- to give the impression of a fuller space.
StubHub notes that the Idol tour peaked in 2011, when season 10 winner Scotty McCreery and his fellow finalists hit the road. But the following year, sales decreased nearly 10 percent, despite the fact that season 11 winner Phillip Phillips had a massive hit with the song "Home," which also received prime placement during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Idol's most successful touring artist? Season five's Chris Daughtry, whose band outsells Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken, runners-up for seasons eight and two, respectively, at a ratio of 13 to one.
On the girls' side, season four winner Carrie Underwood sells nearly double the amount of tickets as Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, and Daughtry combined, according to StubHub.
With nearly the entire American Idol judging panel out the door (still nothing official about the fate of Keith Urban, though a source tells THR that the country singer is still in the picture), and rumors that Jennifer Hudson is all but signed, sealed and delivered as a season 13 judge, the powers-that-be might want to take this data into consideration.

You know, I think I would like to see source and actual numbers for this.

I don't recall there being writing sessions with Justin and Adam for FYE. Music Again is a solo write by Justin. There is even a demo with Justin. Pretty sure Suburban Decay was the same. I could be misremembering, but I thought there was a song from 2009 that was partially written by Justin, and then worked on in studio by Adam with Rob Cavallo but never finished. There is an interview from 2009 with Rob C. when he talks about working on 3 songs with Adam from Justin Hawkins -- that would be Music Again, Suburban Decay and ?? ** Setting that aside -- I think that this "Want" may be a database error because I cannot image Adam writing a song called "Want". That is the title of the demo recording that was released as a single and on Take One and on the Paramount Sessions. And there are two songs titled Want listed with HFA: Song Title HFA Song Code Writer WANT W4614C ADAM LAMBERT WANT M7639Z JUSTIN HAWKINS, ADAM LAMBERT The first one is the unauthorized demo release:The second "Want" -- the Hawkins/Lambert co-write is listed as not being released. Also, Adam did not write all of these songs from Take One/Paramount sessions even though he has solo writing credit on the HFA Song database. Me too. And it seems rather odd to be comparing Idols who have been around for different lengths of time. In what period of time are they doing the statistics? I have to believe that on the year both Chris and Adam earned $6 million, Chris was not outselling Adam 13 to one. Last year, Adam didn't really have a tour. Also Chris doesn't do much internationally, does he? I thought he was an opener for Nickelback for some European shows, but opener is a lot different than headlining. I wonder if they took into account Adam's international shows at all. When Adam did his Glam Nation Tour, I remember someone on one of those Adam-hater blogs saying that Adam was no where in Chris's league. I remember seeing Chris's average venue size around 5K, so he wasn't this huge arena seller any more. I think in that year, Adam was in Chris's league tour-wise and according to Forbes, their earnings were the same. Lastly, why the hell is StubHub being used as a source? My niece works there. Aren't they just scalpers? Why would they have any real data?
