"Idol's most successful touring artist? Season five's Chris Daughtry, whose band outsells Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken, runners-up for seasons eight and two, respectively, at a ratio of 13 to one."
You know, I think I would like to see source and actual numbers for this.
Yeah, especially on the ticket sales being down 346 % part. Lol. Somebody is clearly math challenged. And I agree, that 13 : 1 ratio sounds like somebody added all kinds of apples and oranges to come up with that one. But I need to go to bed and really don't feel like researching how many single and album sales Daughtry had. Whatever it really is, their point is to diss idol in general and with that they are joining the choir of the rest of the media who feel a need to do that. Btw, totally agree with previous comments, that I am tired of people following like lemmings anyone who is willing to beat up on idol. It is getting really old, they are making no new points and they are overlooking a few very important topics. - Like the many careers idol has started. - How much new music has originated from its former contestants - How many memorable moments are created on the show (ever heard of a summertime or mad world -like memorable moment from The Voice? No, me neither. And we won't ever, because the duet-ring situation will never make that possible). - How big the show still is. It is popular to beat up on idol right now. And I know that idol's management is a mess. But the show itself is the best one out there, it just deserves to be in better hands. There is nothing that X-factor does that is per se better, this critique makes absolutely no sense. And to bring this back to Wendy. Wendy does understand what is popular and that is what you usually will hear from her. It is what it is

How can something be down 346%? Would that be negative ticket sales?
**
I have no idea what that snarky Daugherty comment means. He is co-touring with 3 Doors Down in venues Adam headlined in and they are not selling out.

So Adam responds to Wendy, but ignores Oprah?! I know Oprah is not anymore what she used to be, but still. Oprah's show contacted him (via twitter), whereas Wendy only talked about him. Color me confused. I sure hope his management did respond behind the scenes, given that he did not respond to the direct twitter, at least not publicly. I thought he was staying low because he had no news to tell (to Oprah) and therefore did not speak up, but this Wendy tweet kind of contradicts that idea. Anyone else find this strange? No I don't find it strange really. As I remember, the call out from Oprah was from her staff and they were asking him to follow them so that they could dm him....which he likely did. They were inviting a private conversation so by definition, we were not invited to the table. That was my take on the tweet....I could be wrong... I just checked the old tweets any you are correct -- someone on Oprah's staff wanted Adam to follow them so they could DM him. Whatever happened to phone calls? ETA: I just had a chance to watch the WW video and for Wendy that was nice -- her specialty is snark.

'American Idol' Summer Tour: Ticket Sales Down 347 Percent from 2012 7:00 PM PDT 6/3/2013 by Michele Amabile Angermiller Statistical data compiled by StubHub point to a weak trek, which has already called off a quarter of its scheduled dates. www.hollywoodreporter.com/idol-worship/american-idol-summer-tour-ticket-561993
Ticket sales for the 2013 American Idol Live! Tour are down 347 percent, according to data compiled by ticket resaler StubHub. The news follows word of recent show cancellations, where nearly a quarter of the AEG trek's 40 U.S. dates have been called off.
Originally slated to kick off on June 29, the tour was pushed back to July 19 and some Idol observers are now wondering whether some of the venues, which include New York's Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Nashville's Bridgestone Arena (both with capacity of around 18,000), will have to be scaled down to smaller rooms. "Don't be surprised if they curtain the balconies off completely," says one Idol insider, who points to weaker outings, like season three's, where the stage was moved to the center of the venue -- or "half-house" -- to give the impression of a fuller space.
StubHub notes that the Idol tour peaked in 2011, when season 10 winner Scotty McCreery and his fellow finalists hit the road. But the following year, sales decreased nearly 10 percent, despite the fact that season 11 winner Phillip Phillips had a massive hit with the song "Home," which also received prime placement during the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Idol's most successful touring artist? Season five's Chris Daughtry, whose band outsells Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken, runners-up for seasons eight and two, respectively, at a ratio of 13 to one.
On the girls' side, season four winner Carrie Underwood sells nearly double the amount of tickets as Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Phillip Phillips, Clay Aiken, Jennifer Hudson, and Daughtry combined, according to StubHub.
With nearly the entire American Idol judging panel out the door (still nothing official about the fate of Keith Urban, though a source tells THR that the country singer is still in the picture), and rumors that Jennifer Hudson is all but signed, sealed and delivered as a season 13 judge, the powers-that-be might want to take this data into consideration.

2011 Tour summary en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idols_LIVE!_Tour_2011 Number of shows - 49 (24 sold out) Total gross - $22,002,464 (47 shows) Total attendance - 403,695 Average attendance - 8,589 (97.0%) Average ticket price - $54.5 Highest gross - Raleigh, North Carolina - $696,605 Lowest gross - Syracuse, New York - $286,435 Highest attendance - Raleigh, North Carolina - 13,533 (100%) Lowest attendance - Syracuse, New York - 4,975 (89.1%) 2009 Tour summary en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Idols_LIVE!_Tour_2009 Number of shows - 52 (8 sold out) Total gross - $30,139,328 Total attendance - 484,434 Average attendance - 9,316 (86%) Average ticket price - $62.22 The statistics comparing Daughtry's tour with Adam Lambert's tour is total rubbish. If you look at the sales numbers for Daughtry's 2nd tour, the Break TheSpell Tour on wiki (the only tour I could find numbers for), the band had an average attendance of 2220/concert. (They only had numbers for 2/3 of the concerts, so the number could be a bit higher, but not grossly higher.). I don't see any numbers for Daughtry's 1st or 3rd tour. The average attendance for Adam Lambert's 1st tour, the Glam Nation Tour, was about 2500/concert, not including the big festival & ball game concerts. Including those, it was about 3500/concert. His 2nd mini tour this year had an average attendance of 4800. (And I am not even counting his concert fronting Queen in Kiev with 250,000 in attendance!!!). So there is no way that Daughtry's tours are out selling Lambert's tours by a ratio of 13 to 1. It would not even come close to this ratio if you add up all of Daughtry's councerts (he's been touring twice as long as Adam) and compared them to all of Adam's concerts. Also, looking at the Idol tour numbers, what year you choose to call the "peak" depends on what you use as the statistic. If you look at average attendance per concert, 2009 (9316/concert) beats 2011 (8239/concert)!!! If you look at total gross, or even average gross ($579,602 for 2009 & $449,029 for 2011), Idol 2011 beats Idol 2009 by a wide margin. The only way that Idol 2011 beats Idol 2009 is if you compare the tickets sold as a % of capacity! Which means Idol got smart and lowered the average capacity of the venues for the 2011 tour. There is a famous book titled "How to Lie with Statistics"!! Never believe any statistic without analyzing where it came from!

The statistics in the THR article are based on "resales" not "direct"sales. Therefore the numbers do not reflect the total ticket sales for a tour much less a venue. That explains why the numbers are off so badly. Yep, this is apples and oranges and very misleading.

Whatever happens to A-Idol . Whatever happens at A-Idol. Adam will continue to be relevant to a significant part of this world. For me that is what matters most. Sands of time.. sublime relevance through time..
