I do not disagree that Sony has supported some other Idol not named Adam -- but the list is short. My comment was not comparing Adam to other NEW artists not Idols. And the level of support from RCA for Adam is almost unparalleled for a new artist without a blockbuster hit. It is the kind of investment that is made when a label believes an artist has longevity and significant market potential. Many Idol alums and the vast majority of Idol alums are treated opportunistically on their first album. Look at Idol debut -- Adam is the only one with a global promotional push, the only one with a Live EP, a Remix EP, a DVD, a Live CD and a worldwide tour. What other new US artist, who doesn't have a platinum album, has this kind of promotion? A month ago, it might have been possible to say Bruno Mars but his debut album has now shipped Platinum in the US. Whaaat???? You compared Adam to the other Idols. That's why I commented about some of the other American Idol contestants. There aren't many new artists with these type of opportunities, except Bieber and Gaga after their debut albums, but Idol contestants aren't exactly new artists. The idolettes had 20 million viewers watching them every week for months. The fact that Adam has a large, dedicated fan base and does very well outside of the US, probably helps him get some opportunities that other artists don't receive. Bruno was getting some pretty nice promo and perks months ago. I think the multiple Grammy nods and Grammy performance really pushed his popularity up the charts. Oh, my intent was not to make an Idol comparison. Sorry about that clumsy example. My original comment: The statement I made and tried to support was "Very few new artists have this kind of product at all." Just trying not to lose it in yet another Idol discussion. I used Cook as an example of another new artist, also from Idol, to demonstrate that Adam was treated unusually as a new artist -- even compared to another similarly famous artist. I should not have used an Idol an an example because the new artist point just got lost. (I have nothing against Cook and think he got pretty typical new artist promotion from RCA -- that is why I used him as an example -- and he got little radio promo support for CBTM -- mostly HAC airplay.) So let me try again -- Adam has an unusually large amount of product compared to other new artists. New artists from 2009-2010 who have similar product are Justin Bieber, and ?? Even Lady Gaga has not released a live concert DVD yet -- promised March 9, 2010 and reported to have be partially filmed in 3D -- but not released. Promotional investment does not always result in sales and sales are not always because of a label's promotional investment. The reason Sony and now UMG are willing to pay 19R and these new artists so much is because Idol has been an effective sales platform more often than other A&R efforts. Less than 5% of new major label artists make money for the label. Idol seasons 1-9 ran about 40% made money for Sony -- even some who were dropped by Sony, made money for BMG/Sony on their first album. So sorry I mentioned anyone from Idol and if you want to discuss further, please PM me.

LOL, it's ok. Nice way to start a new day... One thing I like is atop never sleeps Yup! Atop runs in international time zone shifts definitely. When I wake up and check in most mornings there are anything from 8 to 20 odd pages to catch up on and many times it's too late to comment on things from page 1 or 2 which is only just underway when I go to bed. T'is all good tho
