geez~ what a wonderful post! As I was reading everyone's concerns for the pain of getting a tatoo, I thought, but that pain is very temporary, and depending on the location of the tat, sometimes it's really not that bad. And, the pain goes away quickly, almost as soon as the ink is dried. To answer the question as to why someone would willingly endure the pain, for some it is totally worth the minor inconvience.

junie, re the tattoo, you always say things so much better and nicer than I do. mwp loved your thorough and interesting post as always.
OT from the tattoo. I found a schnauzer puppy that I want desperately. There are 2 females to choose from. The breeder is 30 miles away and has been sending me a bunch of adorable pictures. They're black and silver, 4 months old, house broken, parents on premises, come from champion stock, have all their shots, microchips, vet certification for health and eyes. I like the fact that they are a little older. Shadow was 4 months when we got her. Hubby said that he wants to wait a while, so I haven't told him about them yet. As you can see, I'm gathering ammunition to talk to him tonight. Wish me luck. I really, really, really want a new puppy to love. I'm home alone all day and even if I wanted to find a job, I can't because of my damn injuries. I''m not even allowed to drive yet. I'm lonely and I WANT ONE OF THESE PUPPIES! My last bit of ammo will be my Mom sending him an e-mail or calling him to beg for me. Wish me luck tonight. Good luck sugaree, you need this puppy!!!!! Hope you get it. eta: sorry about spammming |

 This pic was taken this summer when we took a jeep ride to the top of the Houstop Mountains, about 5 miles from our house. It is at the edge of "Fina del Mundo" overlooking the Flats below. Took us 2 hours by jeep to get up there on roads that haven't been traveled in quite some time. Dh has fond memories of this place, it was my first time to see it. Sorry it's so little, I am a neophite at posting pics. |

And it occurred to me: Who does that? Who has a 'shroom-fueled epiphany in the middle of the vast empty desert, staring up at the infinite empty night sky, and instead of emerging with the thought of ones own smallness and powerlessness in the face of the wide universe, comes away with the opposite lesson--the idea of the power of the individual--of the self-determining force of ones own personality and potential. What kind of special, rare personality does it take to expand ones self-image in that experience, rather than shrink it. I don't think that's a sign of egoism--I think its a sign of incredible openness to the future. I found this part of your musings facinating! Who does this? I think that some people do this. I live in the mountains, and have taken many hikes to the top, where tractor trailers rolling down the highway look like toys. If you can lie still for an hour, you can actually feel the earth moving, rotating, as it were. On more than one occassion, I have felt myself blend into the mountain-side, becoming one with it all, and feeling only my eyes as distinct and separate from the grandness of the landscape. Like they are the windows of the universe. I didn't feel small, or separate, or insignificant. I felt empowered, enlightened, and had a feeling of joining with the universe, a totally encompassing experience. You are welcome to come to my mountains any time, you will be able to see what I see. |

Haven't read much of thread today but want to express opinion on the tattoo. I really dislike tattoos. They seem sorta short sighted to me, assuming you know what you want drawn on your arm at 90 yrs old seems stupid, especially when they are random. BUT, clearly this tattoo is very well thought out and very symbolic and meaningful to him. And it is truly art. I actually LOVE it!! It is Adam and just like him it is done with meaning, artistry, intelligence, amazing skill, and exceptional beauty! This is his celebration of himself and the universe. I want to know everything about it! Eta I especially love that the freckles show on her face so beautifully! still on p.13, but I LOVE THIS POST!!!!! |
